I did have a great trip up to Northern Queensland which gave me an insight into many Nature delights and sustainable ideas to come back and speak to the students about. They have been very interested in recycling, sustainability and in looking after our environment. I am sure they will enjoy the photos, stories and videos I can now use in lessons about the coral reefs, sea creatures, local amazing animals like the crocodiles and gorgeous rainforests like those at Kuranda and in the Mossman Gorge, North of Port Douglas. Travel is a very special thing and my conversations with the students will also be about future goals, planning and ambition to be able to do some of these exciting things themselves. Many are already having wonderful family adventures with you. Curriculum Reports are currently being prepared for parents to receive formal feedback about their child’s learning as per the reporting schedule. The report will be slightly different mid-year, but will still offer results and comments in all curriculum areas, comments from staff and students and a work attitude and work and skill competency feedback. Teachers have been involved in collaborative moderation at the recent Pupil Free Day so are discussing with colleagues the use of the Australian Curriculum and what really warrants and A,B,C grades. We are excited to see the rise in results in many areas for students across the site with A and B grades being achieved in a lot of cases. This growth and stretch was discussed with council last meeting and at the External Review as a thing we were aiming to achieve with Site Improvement Plan links to assist this. Emergent Literacy work is leading to improvement in Early Years Data. A focus on ‘Powerful Learners’ and Student Agency/Voice means children are better at goal setting, understanding what is needed for higher achievement and are engaged in trying to reach improved levels. We look forward to hosting as many of you next Wednesday morning at 9am as possible for a school tour and morning tea to see some of your children’s learning in action. Dates to Remember:

Hello everyone, It is indeed a terrific thing to walk back into the school yard and be greeted with smiles and hello Mrs. Prelc’s from so many of your fabulous children. Preschool News

Our Eat a Rainbow project has been going so well this term. Each time we taste, make or bake with fruit and vegetables, the whole group joins in and it’s like an episode of Master Chef. Last week was ‘Red’ week and we made our own pasta from scratch, to which we added a tomato and roast vegetable stir through sauce To further engage the children in the wonderful world of pasta we also read the traditional tale of ‘Strega Nona’ with Strega Nona’s magic pasta pot . We set up a new story table with people from the ‘olden days’ that used to cook on an open fire in a clay pot. Enjoy the shots of a week full of fun and learning!

Junior Primary Students this past fortnight had to plan, design, make and critique a box construction of a Dinosaur. Some were made to the plans, others just made as they went along. When it came to critiquing the completed project, some students then realised how important it was to follow the plan and to discuss their changes that were made or could've been made to make the Dinosaurs better. Overall, they look great.

Middle Primary

It has been a very busy two weeks in Middle Primary! With a big focus on writing and

grammar, we have been learning about different types of words in our writing and how

these words can make our writing more exciting and interesting.

Our Numeracy focus this fortnight has been on number. We have been investigating

numbers through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and recognizing and

identifying patterns. We have had a big emphasis this term on problem solving and

critical thinking, which is expanding our curiosity and wondering, resulting in improved

skills in questioning, analysis and reflection which is growing us as learners in all of the

learning areas.

We have been using these problem solving skills by reflecting on problems in the world

and coming up with ways we can change the world!

Upper Primary

We have had a busy two weeks with the Lion Club Mad Minute competition and completing our fractions unit and information report writing. I was extremely proud of the students who participated in the Mad Minute, they spoke with clarity and confidence. Jenny Hinze and the panel gave the students feedback, so they can work on improving their presentation skills for the final next Wednesday in Lucindale. The class got themselves dirty during art on Monday with JoJo, creating pieces of art from limestone. During he lesson they designed, planned, created, review and produced a statue.

News from around the classes…..

Choir Update Well done to these three singing stars. Adele Wilkinson and Reese Balshaw

who recorded their solo audition today. Blake Perry stepped outside the box

and braved the compere audition.

Videos will be sent to Robynne for selection in the South East Primary

School's Music Festival.

We have some talented singers

in choir and although we didn't

have many auditions, during our

choir sessions each week - ALL

students are encouraged and

get the opportunity to 'have a go'

at solo parts. Bailey and Zarlee

are prime examples, when today

they both volunteered to sing the

'Live Louder' solo. I was blown

away at their confidence and

diction.

Keep it up choir team!
