The teachers have spent a great deal of time teaching students about the importance and responsibility that goes along with leadership. The students thought very hard when preparing election speeches about the components of leadership that they had to offer the school community. Students then were able to make very informed choices about their leaders and representatives for 2017. I always say that with a badge and elected position, comes a responsibility to serve the others that have elected you. We as family and educators have a fabulous opportunity to teach our budding leaders to lead for good and for the betterment of the school and students here. What do you think makes a good leader? This is a fabulous discussion to have at home with your children, and a question in my role as Principal that I take very seriously. In 2017 as Principal I am committed to being approachable for parents, teachers and staff. I also plan to lead with compassion and honesty. Your feedback to me is invited just as much as I invite you to guide and provide feedback to our student leaders over the course of the year. Playful Pedagogies Early Years teachers are committed to developing the concept of Play and Learning into the school. Much research has led to this direction in education and to google the topic online is very informative. This has been the hot topic on the agenda for the SECAV partnership of schools that we are a part of. Helen and kay are enjoying programming together and will join with Early Educators from around the area this year to become involved in inquiries that will strengthen this in our school. Dates to Remember:

Dear parents/carers, We have had a very exciting time this past fortnight!! We have celebrated the election of captains and SRC representatives for 2017. With a strong site focus on ‘STUDENT VOICE’, leadership for students is a big part of that. (Photos on back page.) The teachers have spent a great deal of time teaching students about the importance and responsibility that goes along with leadership.

The school with Governing Council support, have developed the Outdoor space at the preschool to enable a great balance of indoor and outdoor play (Site QIP and National Quality Standards) and now development is planned to develop an area outside of the junior primary area for discovery play and activities outside the JP

  • Middle Primary have been having lots of fun learning about number with addition,

    subtraction, multiplication and division!

    In Middle Primary we have

    been working hard to set

    ourselves goals. Every week we

check up on our goals to see

    whether we have reached

them or what else we can do to

make sure we do reach them!

If we have reached a goal, we

add a leaf to one of the trees

in our ‘Goal Forest’! We can’t

wait to see our trees growing!

  • Preschool We have been enjoying lots of cooking at Kindy this term, from tomato soup and fruit kebabs to

coconut and lemon zest cupcakes. We have very keen chefs who keep asking for more. It’s

amazing how much children learn from cooking. It is an effortless and joyful introduction to mathe-

matics as you talk about fractions, weight, size, length and time. The link between cooking and

literacy is clear when you think about all the new vocabulary as you use as you whisk and chop,

fold and spread, not to mention ‘reading’ the recipes and following directions. Last but not least,

learning to cook is a life long skill that can bring love, good health and cheer into our lives. Next

term with our “Eat a Rainbow” program we will continue to cook nutritious and exciting dishes so

    watch this space!

    Junior Primary

Emergent Literacy is a big focus in Junior Primary. We are learning and making links

between reading a story and rhyme, syllables, beginning and end sounds, letter names

and sounds relationships. We are also learning our sight words and word families using

various activities as in some photos below.

Upper Primary Over the last 2 weeks we have been busy completing our school assessments, which saw all students move up reading levels (AWESOME). We have been using the data we have collected to set goals and lead our learning in the class. Over the rest of the term we will be focusing on reading comprehension strategies, spelling of sight and unfamiliar words, verb tense, punctuation and fluency in reading and speaking. I am extremely proud of the students persistence and assessment results. The focus over the year will be working with students to identify their learning needs and goals and developing a plan of how they/we are going to get there. This has seen the classes confidence rise and I cant wait to see what they achieve. In literacy we are moving into persuasive text, with a focus on structure, punctuation and descriptive language. Maths we are still working on place value, which is leading us into multipli-cation, addition, division and subtraction. Just a reminder Choir and Yr 7 top forms have been sent out. Can you please return them as soon as possible. If you have any questions please contact me.
