Mission Statement
We, the parishioners of St. Anthony-Kalihi bonded in faith and love of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, give faithful witness to the love of Jesus
Christ in proclaiming the good news of salvation. We commit to the evangelization of the parish through spiritual renewal and formation. We promote justice, peace and respect for human life by caring and serving the poor, the sick and the needy. We firmly resolve to
further the mission for the glory and reign of God on earth.
Living the Paschal Mystery
The parable in today’s gospel may cause us to stop and consider several questions: What kind of seed are we? Were we scattered on rocky soil or fertile? Will we bear fruit? If so, how much—thirty, sixty, one hundred fold? Being viewed as seed scattered on the ground does not seem to leave much room for free will. The seed scattered on rocks can scarcely move itself to the fertile soil. Is it the fault of the seed for landing in an inhospitable environment? Then again, what about the seed that finds itself in fertile soil? Is there a responsibility to grow and produce fruit? That can hardly happen if it’s eaten by a bird. Again, the question of free will seems to be outside the realm of this parable.
Today, we might pray for the grace to grow where we find ourselves and to produce as much fruit as possible. One day there will be a harvest and we shall experience new life. Such is the paschal mystery. Living Liturgy 2020
A Stewardship Moment Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time In today’s second reading, Saint Paul gives us reason to hope for a wondrous future beyond our imagination. He preaches this hope amidst the suffering of the early Christian communities. “Brothers and sisters: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us” (Romans 8:18). Good stewards realize that by remaining faithful to the Gospel with persistence, fervor and endurance, our hope in the promises of Christ Jesus will be rewarded. Reflect this week on concrete ways you can remain faithful to the Gospel during these challenging times. International Catholic Stewardship Council July e-bulletin

SHARING YOUR TIME & TALENT
Do you have a talent that you want to share? We need your help. We need
volunteers in many areas of our parish, such as musicians, volunteers on the
weekend to help clean and maintain our church grounds, ushers to help before, during and after the mass, volunteers to help with technology and many others.
If you are interested in sharing your time and talent, please see Leeza
Family Resources
Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
• Gather for family prayer around a small bowl of soil. Use this week’s responsorial psalm for the refrain. “The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.” Ask each family member to name one action he or she has done or has seen another family member do during the week that proclaimed God’s word of love, justice, and peace.
• Hearing the word of God is one thing but living it is another. In the beginning of the week, together as a family select a Scripture passage and decide on a family project to carry out the message of the reading.
• Do yard work together as a family, or have children help water houseplants. Discuss what your family can do to help seeds of faith grow in your household.
• Take a walk to look at summer lawns and gardens. Where are they growing well? Where not so well? What could be the cause of this? Have each family member reflect on his or her own life. Has the seed of faith fallen on good soil?
Our Sunday Visitor Lifelong Catechesis
Journal
• Look back to a time you made a choice that was in line with God’s will. Can you think of some fruits that came from that?
• Are you open to the seeds God is trying to plant within your soil? Or do you feel too busy, satisfied, or angry to grow closer to Him?
• Do you struggle to pay attention during times of prayer? How can you change that?
• Who is someone that can keep you accountable for keeping your heart/soil in a good place to receive God’s seed?
Challenge for the Week
Keep your Bible with you as much as you can this week. Don’t take it into the bathroom with you, but keep it in your backpack, or purse, place it on your desk as you study, or on your night table as you sleep. Keeping the Bible near you, rather than collecting dust on your bookshelf, will encourage you to read it more. Read and reflect on a few verses whenever it catches your attention. You’ll discover Scripture comes in handy when you’re stressed about a test, saying your prayers before going to bed, or whenever you’re open to receiving it. LifeTeen Ascend
