LOCKDOWN Highest state of readiness activated when violence is occurring or is

imminent on campus.

A LOCK DOWN is an emergency safety procedure in which faculty, staff

and students lock down their classroom or office to prevent the

entrance of an armed or violent intruder or active shooter. A lockdown

occurs when occupants of campus buildings are directed to remain

confined to a room/area with specific procedures to follow regarding

locking of doors, closing of windows/shades, barricading, seeking cover,

What should I do in an emergency? 1.

Tune into one of the local radio stations to receive up-to-date

messages and information. The radio notices will tell you what to

do and where to go - whether you should stay at home or

to evacuate to a Reporting Centre.

Reporting Centres 3.

The Reporting Centres in an emergency are primary and

evacuate.

If the emergency is of a serious nature then Welfare Centres will

be opened to provide basic services to the community during an

emergency or Civil Defence event. The location of these centres

will be publically advised at the time of the emergency and may

vary depending on the nature of the situation.
