Emma Sansom was born on June 2, 1847

She died on

her family to

Gadsden,

Alabama in 1852.

The Civil War started in 1861 between the Union and Confedracy.

General Nathan Bedford Forrest was told to stop Colonel Abel Streight. Colonel Streight burned down the bridge that crossed Black Creek so

General Forrest could not get across the creek and stop him.

General Forrest

saw Emma

Sansom’s farm

and went to ask

if she could show

them away to

cross the creek.

She was only 15

years old.

safely. After she helped

him he asked for a lock of here hair.

The reason Emma Sansom is a hero is because she could have been killed for helping General Forrest.
