Dynamics AX 2012 takes advantage of that by allowing you to integrate the presence features directly into the client application so if you have business questions that need to be answered immediately, you can start the conversation without leaving the Dynamics AX client.

The following walkthrough shows how you can configure the Lync integration.

First Make Sure

That You Are

Licensed

The first thing that we need to do is check that the Lync integration is licensed on your environment. To do this, go to the System Administration menu and find the Licensing Configuration item in the Setup group.

Expand out the Administration node and make sure that Presence Support is enabled.

The next step is to register your employees Lync IM ID. To do this go to the Workers in the HR module.

Find your employee that you want to enable Lync Presence for.

And in the Contact Information section you want to add their Lync IM e-mail account.

If it is not there then just add a new contact information for the e-mail account.

To make them show up, there is one last step that you can access through the Advanced option.

In the Advanced options for the e-mail, make sure that the Instant messaging sihn-in is enabled.

Now, anywhere that the Employee ID is shown, it will be replaced with a presence indicator.

You can see if the person is available, and access all of the Lync communication options directly from Dynamics AX, including live conference calls.

Or if you just want to ping their cell phone or tablet through the Lync clients, you can track the person down no-matter where they are through the Lync IM feature. How cool is that.
