Objectives After completing this lab, you will be better able to:
� Enable and configure users for Office Communications Server 2007.
� Install Microsoft® Office Communicator 2007.
� Configure Office Communicator 2007.
� Describe the Presence Grouping Feature of Office Communications Server
2007.
� Use Office Communicator 2007.
Note: This lab focuses on the concepts in this module. As a result, it may not
comply with Microsoft security recommendations.
Scenario Now that you have installed Office Communications Server 2007 in your
environment, you want to deploy Office Communicator 2007 to your clients.
You will now install Office Communicator 2007, configure the clients, add
contacts, and test connectivity.

Exercise 1 Enabling and Configuring Users for Office Communications Server 2007
Scenario In this exercise we will enable users for Office Communications Server 2007. We will demonstrate two ways of
configuring users, first we will use Active Directory Users and Computers and then use the Office Communications
server Administrative Tools console.
Tasks Detailed Steps
Complete the following
task on:
SMBEX01
1. Log on to the
SMBEX01 Virtual
PC
a. On SMBEX01, at the logon screen, press and hold the right ALT key and then
press DELETE.
Note: In Virtual PC, to simulate pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE in order to log on or
open Task Manager, press the DELETE key and the ALT key to the right of the
spacebar.
Note: Click OK to any prompts regarding any services that fail to start, and then
review Services to verify that all have started successfully.
b. Log on to the NWTRADERS domain as Administrator with a password of
P@ssw0rd.
c. After startup ensure that the following services are running by clicking on Start,
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services (make sure ALL Microsoft
Exchange services are running even if they’re not listed here):
• Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging
• Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search
• Microsoft Exchange System Attendant
• Microsoft Exchange Speech Engine
• Microsoft Exchange Service Host
• Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer
• Microsoft Exchange Replication Service
• Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants
• Microsoft Exchange Mail submission
• Microsoft Exchange Information Store
• Microsoft Exchange File Distribution
• Microsoft Exchange EdgeSync
• Microsoft Exchange Anti-spam Update
• Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service
Complete the following 2
tasks on:
B3OCS01
a. On B3OCS01, at the logon screen, press and hold the right ALT key and then

Note: Click OK to any prompts regarding any services that fail to start, and then
review Services to verify that all have started successfully.
c. After startup ensure that the following services are running by clicking on Start,
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services (if a service is not running,
right-click on service and choose Start):
• Office Communications Server Audio/Video Conferencing
• Office Communications Server Front-End
• Office Communications Server IM Conferencing
• Office Communications Server Telephony Conferencing
• Office Communications Server Web Conferencing
3. On B3OCS01,
enable users for
Office
Communications
Server 2007 using
Microsoft Active
Directory® Users and
Computers
a. On B3OCS01, click Start, and then click Run.
b. To open Active Directory Users and Computers, in the Run dialog box, type
dsa.msc and then click OK.
Note: We need to enable users within the Information Technology OU for
Communications and assign them to an Office Communications Server or Pool.
c. In Active Directory Users and Computers, in the left pane, expand
nwtraders.com, right-click Information Technology, and then click Enable
users for Communications Server.
Note: You can only enable and configure users for communications using Active
Directory Users and Computers from your OCS installation or from a computer that
has the OCS Administrative Tools installed.
d. On the welcome page, click Next.
e. On the Select a Pool page, verify that B3OCS01.nwtraders.com is selected in the
drop-down list, and then click Next.
Note: This associates these users with our B3OCS01 OCS pool.
f. On the Specify Sign-in Name page, verify that Use user’s email address is
selected, and then click Next.
g. On the Enable Operation Status page, click Finish.
h. Close Active Directory Users and Computers.
4. On B3OCS01,
configure users using
Office
Communications
Server 2007
Administrative Tool
a. On B3OCS01, click Start���� Administrative Tools���� Office Communications
Server 2007.
b. In the Administrative Tools console, expand Forest – nwtraders.com, expand
Standard Edition Servers, expand b3ocs01, and then click Users.
Note: Notice that all of the users from the Information Technology OU that you
enabled in the previous procedure show up here. Users will not show up here until
they have been enabled using Active Directory Users and Computers.
c. Right-click Users and then click Configure users.
d. On the welcome page, click Next.
e. On the Configure Users Settings page, select the Federation, Public IM
Connectivity, Remote User Access, and Enhanced Presence check boxes, and
then click Next four times as we are only enabling IM at this time. We will
configure Meeting and Voice policies in later labs.
f. On the Configure Operations Status page, click Finish.

Scenario You will now install Office Communicator 2007 on the client machine. Then you will start and configure
Communicator for Andy Ruth, and then run the Audio and Video Tuning wizard.

1. On OCSVista install

a. On OCSVista, click Start���� All Programs���� Accessories���� Windows Explorer.
b. Navigate to C:\OCS 2007 and double-click CommunicatorEval.msi.
c. On the Welcome page, click Next.
d. On the End-User License Agreement page, review the license agreement, select I
accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next.
e. On the Configure Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 page, click Next.
f. On the Completion page, click Finish.
2. On OCSVista,
configure Office
Communicator 2007
a. On OCSVista, click Start���� All Programs���� Microsoft Office Communicator
2007.
b. Right-click the communicator icon in the system tray and click Sign-In (sign-in
may occur automatically).
Note: If you receive an error logging in, click Start and then click Run. Type ipconfig
/flushdns press ENTER, and retry logging in.
c. In Office Communicator, in the Sign-in address text box, type
[email protected] and then click Sign In.
d. Type [email protected] in the User name text box, type P@ssw0rd in the
Password text box, and then click Sign In.
Note: If a Microsoft Exchange message appears, click Use Temporary Mailbox.
e. Leave Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 running.

Scenario In this exercise, you will add Kevin Cook as a contact and start Office Communicator 2007 on SMBEX01. You will
then have a short messaging session and examine Kevin Cook’s contact card. Then you will change the level of
access and reexamine Kevin’s contact card.

Complete the following
task on:

1. On OCSVista, add
contacts in Office
Communicator 2007
a. On OCSVista, in Office Communicator 2007, click the small drop-down arrow in
the upper-left corner of the Communicator window and go to: Tools > Add a
contact.
b. On the Add a contact window, select “Use an e-mail address or sign-in address”
and click Next.
c. Enter the e-mail address: [email protected] and click Next.
d. Select All Contacts in the drop-down menu and click Next
e. Click Finish and notice Kevin’s name in your “All Contacts” list.
Complete the following

2. On SMBEX01, start
Office
Communicator 2007
and send an Instant
Message
a. Switch to the SMBEX01 virtual PC, and then click Start���� Log Off.
b. At the Log Off Windows prompt, click Log Off.
c. At the log in screen, press and hold the right ALT key, and then press DELETE.
d. Log on to the NWTRADERS domain as Kevin with a password of P@ssw0rd
e. Click Start���� All Programs���� Microsoft Office Communicator 2007.
Note: Notice the Communicator icon on the system tray signing in.
Note: Wait as Office Communicator 2007 signs in as Kevin is automatically signed in
using his domain credentials.
f. On the Communicator dialog box, click OK to add Andy Ruth as a contact.
g. On SMBEX01, double-click the communicator icon on the system tray to expand
Office Communicator 2007.
h. In Office Communicator 2007, right-click Andy Ruth, and then click Send an
Instant Message.
i. In the Andy Ruth - Conversation window, type Sorry I missed our meeting this
morning and then press ENTER.
Complete the following

3. On OCSVista, reply
to the message
a. On OCSVista, on the Taskbar, click the Kevin Cook prompt to start an instant
messaging session with Kevin, and then read the message from Kevin.
b. In Office Communicator 2007, type That is OK, let’s configure conferencing
instead and then press ENTER.

Note: Office Communicator enables the user to publish personal information (phone
numbers, etc.) so that other people can easily view this information from within
Communicator depending on the level of rich-presence access.
a. In Office Communicator 2007 on SMBEX01, click the drop-down arrow in the
upper-left corner, click Tools, and then click Options.
b. In Options, click the Phones tab.
c. Click Work Phone.
d. In the Edit Phone Number dialog box, type +14255551235 and then click OK.
e. Next to the work phone number, select Publish this phone number.
f. Click Mobile Phone.
g. In the Edit Phone Number dialog box, type +12535551235 and then click OK.
h. Next to the mobile phone number, select Publish this phone number.
i. Click Home Phone.
j. In the Edit Phone Number dialog box, type +12065551236 and then click OK.
k. Next to the home phone number, select Publish this phone number.
l. In Options, click OK.

7. On OCSVista,
examine Kevin
Cook’s contact card
a. On OCSVista, in Office Communicator 2007, under All Contacts, click the green
circle next to Kevin Cook to display his contact card.
b. Notice that Communicator has pulled calendar availability from Kevin’s Calendar.
c. In the contact card that opens for Kevin, click the drop-down arrow next to the
phone button.
Note: Notice that you can only see Kevin’s Work phone number (+14255551235)
because Kevin has only provided Andy the Company level of access.
d. Close Kevin Cook’s contact card by clicking the X in the upper-right corner of the
contact card.
e. Leave Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 running.
Complete the following

a. On SMBEX01, in Office Communicator 2007, under All Contacts, right-click
Andy Ruth (NWTraders), and then click Change Level of Access.
b. Review the different access levels, and then click Personal.
c. Leave Office Communicator 2007 running.

a. On OCSVista, in Office Communicator 2007, under All Contacts, click the green
circle next to Kevin Cook to display his contact card.
b. In the contact card that opens for Kevin, click the drop-down arrow next to the

c. Notice that you can now see Kevin’s Work, Mobile and Home phone numbers.
Note: Changing Level of Access is an easy and convenient way to share different
levels of information with different people.
d. Close Kevin’s contact card by clicking the X in the upper-right corner of the
contact card.
e. Leave Office Communicator 2007 running.
