The mission of Endicott College is to instill in students an understanding of and an appreciation for professional and liberal studies. Deeply woven within this philosophy is the concept of applied learning, which has been the hallmark of Endicott. Linking classroom and off-campus work experience through required internships remains the most distinguishing feature of the College.

Endicott has a vision for the total development of the individual within a community that fosters an appreciation of diversity, international awareness, community service, and moral and ethical values. Endicott is an innovative and vibrant, student-centered institution that supports undergraduate and graduate students in their pursuit of knowledge.

Common threads run through the fabric of the Endicott experience: increased self-confidence, stronger professional skills and technological competencies, and perhaps the most valued of all, lives open to change.

Endicott is an amazing place to be. I have enjoyed my years here and truly have embraced the experience. Endicott is more than just a college, it is a community. Immediately upon showing up fresh-man year I felt like I was part of something. Endicott makes you feel home. Every day when I wake up to go to class and see the ocean and the scenery around campus, I feel home. The people that I have met and the experiences I have had in my time here are memorable and will last a lifetime. As Endicott motto states, “Discover the experience.” You won’t be let down. The choice to play Division III baseball instead of any other division came because of my desire to be at Endicott. The division was just a number to me, it was more about finding the right fit of a school and the level of baseball was secondary. At Division III specifically, Endicott offers the balance that I need to be successful both in the classroom and on the base-ball field. The structure provided has allowed me to flourish since being here. – Mike Nich

TYLER HITCHCOCKEndicott has truly been a place where I immediately fit in from the start. The most important aspect of Endicott that has made it such a memorable experience is the friendships I have made over the years. Being from a small town, the college transition was an intimidating process at first, but the tight knit community of Endicott made my transition a lot easier and has opened up lifelong friendships. Endicott is also a very versatile college that offers everything within my range of interests. I have been able to decide a future career choice that is right for me through the variety of courses I have taken, and the numerous student activities and organizations. Overall my Endicott experience has been life changing all for the better. Division III has given me an amaz-ing opportunity to compete at a high level while excelling as a student-athlete. Being a Division III athlete has been a motivation on the field as well as in the classroom because I am expected to reflect my college in a positive light. It has given me the op-portunity to balance my academics as well as my athletic obligations, which is impera-tive for any student looking to succeed in college. – Tyler Hitchcock

When I began my college search, I was relatively unsure what I wanted. All I knew at the time was I desired the opportunity to compete on the baseball field and that I want-ed to be part of a community. As I began to visit schools and talk to coaches, I realized a big campus was not for me. It appeared to me that students at large schools were more so supporting the name, not as much the players and their fellow students. When I visited Endicott, I knew almost immediately it was perfect. It offered me the chance to become not just a part of a team and a campus, but in many senses, a family. I love the support of the Endicott baseball family and it’s been a catalyst of motivation, but I also love how the other teams support us as well. I know whether I’m taking the field or going to class I’m constantly surrounded by people I know, people I’m proud to share the Blue and Green with, and people I’m proud to graduate with. Division III gave me the perfect balance to still compete, yet the availability to still focus on other aspects of my life I deem essential. The first obviously being grades, I knew that the chief reason to come to Endicott was to learn and obtain my bachelors degree, and I wanted to be able to devote as much time as possible to my education. Additionally, I have an-other passion in music. I love to study, perform, and see music constantly. Division III seemed to give me the opportunity to still compete at a high athletic level, focus on my education, and yet still allow me to continue to pursue my passion of music and further myself in that aspect of my life as well. - Ralph Fidaleo

Though the last two seasons of have ended with champion-ships, Endicott’s baseball program has their sights set on a different outcome for the 2013 season.

The Gulls are the two-time defending champions of the ECAC Division III New England baseball tournament, but are focused on winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title and returning to the NCAA Regional tournament for the first time since 2006.

“Our goal this year, as it is every year, is to win the confer-ence and put ourselves in a position where we can compete in the regional and national tournament,” said Head Coach Bryan Haley, entering his sixth year at the helm of the Endicott baseball program.

The 2013 Gulls have a host of players returning to both their lineup and their pitching staff, including six All-Conference selections from the 2012 season, in which they posted a 29-16 record.

Endicott’s offensive fire-power starts in a speedy outfield, where it will return starters Tad Gold, Ralph Fidaleo and team captain Colin Sitarz. Sitarz, a graduate student, is on pace to become the career leader in several offensive categories in his final season, and he and Gold are both coming off of First Team All-CCC selections a year ago.

Sitarz hit .307 last year, scoring 30 runs and knocking in

34, while leading the team with 14 doubles. Gold, entering just his junior season, is coming off of a year in which he stole 22 bases, hit .315 and led the Gulls with 42 runs and 38 RBIs. Gold needs just 13 stolen bases to become the all-time program leader, and currently has the highest stolen base percentage in Endicott history (.887).

Fidaleo drove in 12 runs a year ago and was one of three players, along with Gold, to hit a team-high three home runs. Junior Conor Ressel will return to see time in the Endicott outfield, as will versatile newcomer Tim Brutto.

In the infield, Endicott will again have some familiar faces, though they may shift their positions a little. Freshman Harry Oringer returns after a stand-out freshman campaign in which he hit .280, scored 23 runs, knocked four triples and was third on the team with 27 RBI. EJ Martinez, who batted .291 a year ago with two home-runs and eleven doubles, will slide over from shortstop to third base, opening the door for freshman Cody Hall, Matt Paola and Nick Quattro to compete for the shortstop and utility infield positions.

At first base, Endicott will look to freshman Corbin Hyde and transfer Brett Holmgren, both of whom are strong defensive players and left handed hitters.

Senior catcher and All-CCC Honorable Mention, Robert Gold-stick, will be back for his final season behind the plate. Robbie has proven himself to be one of the top defensive catchers in

the league throughout the past two seasons.

Three time All-CCC 2nd Team award winner, Eric Lemke will again compete for the starting designated hitter role. In 2012, Lemke scored 31 runs and was 11-11 in stolen base attempts. Lemke has scored 98 runs and stolen 34 bases in three years with the Gulls. Lemke, who moved from second base to DH last season, may also see time in left field this season.

Like the outfield, the Gulls have good team speed in the infield, especially in Martinez, who stole eight bases last year and newcomers Paola, Holmgren, Hyde and Quattro. They all fit into Haley’s high pressure offense, where the Gulls will again look to put runners in motion and steal bases.

The rotation will also feature an All-Conference selection in Mike Nich, who earned a spot on the second team last year. Nich, playing in his final year as a graduate student, needs five wins to become the Endicott career leader after a 5-2 year in which he led the team with 35 strikeouts. Nich currently has 18 wins and has posted a 3.18 ERA with 102 strikeouts.

Other returners to Endicott’s staff include Tyler Hitchcock, who pitched four complete games for the Gulls last year and posted four wins. Brendan Pittsley, a member of the 2011 All-CCC 2nd team and Tyler Hill, who beat national runner up, Wheaton College and the Little East tournament champion, University of Southern Maine in two of his five starts last season.

Freshman Mike Walkowicz, a two-time All-State selection, will also compete for one of the spots in the starting rotation.

“I like the experience,” Haley said of his pitching staff. “We expect to pound the bottom of the zone and force contact, and they all do that well.” The Gulls certainly did throw strikes last year, finishing the season third in the country in walks per nine innings (2.22) and fifteenth in the nation in strikeout to walk ratio (2.61).

In the bullpen, Connor McLaughlin will return after a 2012 sophomore season in which he posted a 4-0 record with 3 saves and a 1.42 earned run average. Senior Kevin Dupras also had a strong season a year ago, with a 2-0 record, two saves and a 1.83 ERA, and will spend time as a swing-man between the bullpen and the rotation.

Hyde and Brutto will join returners Mike Griffin, Zac Poland and a strong group of freshman that will also contribute on the mound this spring.

This year, thanks to the newly turfed North Field, Endicott will start their season in Beverly with games against Saint Joseph’s (Maine) on March 2nd and a doubleheader against Bates on March 10th, before heading south for their annual participation in the Russ Matt Central Florida tournament, where they will play one of the strongest schedules in the region. They will match up against teams including Bowdoin and Trinity (Conn.), who both made NCAA regional appearances last year, as well as Eastern Connecticut State University, Amherst and William Paterson.

Things will not get any easier for the Gulls when they return north, as their season will again feature Little East champions Southern Maine and National runners-up Wheaton College. Common-wealth Coast Conference play will pit the Gulls against Curry, Roger Williams and Regional finalists Western New England, who Endicott hopes to unseat as five-time holders of the CCC championship.

Bryan Haley

Head coach Bryan Haley eclipsed the 100-win mark a season ago and now enters his sixth year in the Endicott dugout.

Throughout the last three seasons, Haley’s teams have averaged just under 30 wins per year. During this time, the foundation of the program has been represented by three “core beliefs”.

Haley believes in creating an Endicott baseball family, in which members of the team support each other in all facets of College life, both on and off of the field.

He also expects that his players act as men of high quality char-acter, who will strive to make good decisions, help others and work to put themselves in good situations.

Finally, Haley expects his players to be physically and mentally tough competitors. “My focus is on getting players ready for the marathon run of the season,” says Haley. “This includes making sure that they are physically durable enough to handle a 50+ game season and mentally tough enough to deal with the adversity that comes with playing the game of baseball.”

Haley implements a rigorous year-round strength and condition-ing program, which he believes is critical to on field success. The team’s workouts feature both traditional weight lifting as well as baseball specific workouts that focus on core strength, explosive-ness, agility and flexibility. The team also regularly practices positive mental focus, through various breathing, relaxation and visualization exercises.

Players on Haley’s teams are expected to be fierce competi-tors. The passion for competition is reinforced every day during practice and team meetings. “I expect our players to love to

compete and have a passion for the game of baseball,” says Haley.

In addition to their passion for the game, Haley’s players are expected to bring a positive attitude, and their maximum concentration and effort, each and every day to both practices and games. “Only focusing on what we, individually, can control, is the key to the success of the individual and the team. We make a concerted effort to focus on “the process” of what leads to success, as opposed to only looking at results.”

Coach Haley sees his primary role as that of a teacher. His goal is to work with and develop each player, in order to help them to reach their maximum potential as a ball player. Off of the field, Haley feels that it’s his duty to motivate his players to excel and become successful in all of their individual roles as men.

Haley believes that having the players involved in team leadership is critical to their cohesion as a unit. He strongly relies on upperclassmen to mentor newcomers to the program. Haley also meets often with the players on his team and encourages them to speak with him at any time about their roles on the squad or any concerns or issues that they are having.

One of the ways in which he encourages leadership across his roster is through his Players Committee, a group made up of two representatives from each class. The Players Committee meets periodically to discuss team issues and make decisions on anything from equipment orders to team discipline.

At the top of Coach Haley’s list of priorities is his team’s academic success. “The players need to take advantage of the opportunity to develop in the classroom and through real world experience, during their required intern-ships. Along with enjoying the overall experience of the College, Endicott’s value lies within the career opportunities that are developed through their work on internships.”
