In addi- ion o voing and radiional campaign involvemen, young people are sparking new modes o online advocacy and communicaion and are changing he erms o poliical conversaionsacors ha uure campaigns will need o undersand in order o suc- cessully mobilize young voers. Te 2012 marriage-equaliy campaigns are a srong example o successul youh engag emen and illuminae valuable lessons or uure campaigns, boh wihin he marriage-equaliy movemen and beyond. Young voers showed up a he ballo box in large numbers o suppor marriage equaliy in our saeshe pro-marriag e-equal- iy ballo iniiaives in Maine, Maryland, and Washingon, and he successul deea o an ani-marriage-equaliy amendmen in Minnesoa. Findings rom a poll commis- sioned by he Cener or American Progress provide insigh ino he reasons underly- ing youh poliical paricipaion and how progressiv e movemens can be responsive o  youh pr iori ies mov ing or ward.  Th e po ll Research conduced by Grassroos Soluions or he Cener or American Progress analyzed inormaion on core lessons rom he our successul sae marriage-equaliy campaigns in 2012. 3  I included an online poll conduced in all 2013 o 800 youh vo- ers ages 18 o 30, who were screened o ensure hey had voed in avor o marriage or same-sex couples, as well as 200 youh voers who had expressed a procliviy or polii- cal advocacy hrough voluneering or a campaign or poliical issue or donaing money o a campaign wihin he pas wo years. Tese paricipans are reerred o here as aciv- is voers. Te poll included quesions on respondens’ levels o involvemen, reasons or  becoming involv ed, ways o aking acion, and prioriy issue areas. 4
