    5 AXIS LASER

Fike’s 5 Axis laser technology improves

our ability to make uniquely designed products over and over without the need for tooling. This technology allows us to be diverse and creative when designing a specific product for your needs. The 5 Axis laser offers nearly limitless capabilities to turn a mere concept quickly into prototype parts that test theories and solve difficult and challenging applications.

    PERFORMANCE CAPABILITIES

Fike rupture/bursting discs can be designed to withstand severe operating conditions without affecting performance. They provide a full, unrestricted opening with millisecond response time for critical sealing, venting, one-time valving, activation, stored energy, or pressure relief applications. Custom sizes, from 1/8 inch to 68 inches (DN5 to DN1700) have been manufactured to meet specific needs. We offer discs in a wide range of materials of construction to meet individual requirements and applications.

Burst Pressures: From 0.5 psi to 120,000 psi (0.03 bar to 8,275 bar) and up, dependent on size, fl ow requirements and material.

Backpressure: Patented Fike designs allow back pressure multiple times the rated burst pressure.

Operating Temperature: -320°F to 1650°F (-196°C to 900°C) with special heat reduction; design temperatures may be higher. A wider range of operating temperatures may be possible. Please consult factory.

Burst Tolerance: +/- 5% is typical with +/- 2% possible in certain confi gurations.

Non-Fragmentation: May be achieved when specifi ed.

Critical Leakage: Most designs can meet a leakage requirement not to exceed 1 X 10-8 cc Helium/sec., at one atmosphere differential.

Operating Pressure: May be as high as 95% of the disc rating.

Materials of Construction: Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Nickel, Monel®, Inconel®, Silver, Hastelloy®, Titanium, Tantalum, and Zirconium. Other materials possible, subject to availability.

Response Time: Special designs may achieve opening in 1 millisecond, or less.

  • INNOVATIVE DESIGN PROCESSWhen designing your custom product, we gather as much information about the application as possible to determine the best solution. Fike engineers and application specialists consider many important factors such as type of application, operating conditions, inlet/outlet configurations, rupture disc specifications, and special processes so that we can build the right solution to fit your needs.

Due to the critical nature of some applications, special testing procedures and equipment may be required to accurately simulate actual conditions or to investigate alternative scenarios.

Fike’s testing services are available to certify custom products developed for specific customer applications including those manufactured for aerospace/defense, special gas handling applications and many other variants of Fike standard product offerings.

QUALITY STANDARDSFike provides products and services that meet or exceed customer and industry specifications/standards. We are committed to continual improvements in all areas of our business to maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction in the industries we serve. Fike products are registered and certified by recognized third party organizations, including:

    • ISO 9001:2008• AS9100• NADCAP (SAE AS7003) Welding• ASME Section VIII Appendix 10• EU Directive (97/23/EC) Annex III, Module H/H1

FLOW LABThe Fike Flow Laboratory is a general-purpose flow characterization laboratory for quantifying the performance of rupture/bursting disc devices, rupture disc/relief valve combinations, and any other device where flow capacity and/or resistance to flow must be determined. As part of our custom product design process, we are able to simulate specific applications/installations to determine if the potential solution provided by Fike engineers will meet the performance criteria as specified. And since Fike has equipment ranging from 1/4-inch to 4-inches (DN6 TO DN100), we have the capability of testing a wider range of sizes than any of our competition.

The laboratory is also used as a research and development tool, to support specific customer applications and many other unique testing opportunities:

    • Product development flow resistance and capacity tests • ASME “UD” certification tests • ASME six-year production audits of certified rupture disc devices • Flow capacity measurements • Combination capacity tests of rupture discs coupled with pressure relief valves • “UV” (valve) certification tests

The Fike Flow Laboratory has met the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NB) and is a certified testing facility (certification #PRD-023). Fike engineers who are responsible for test supervision and record keeping are accredited as “Authorized Observers” (AO) by the ASME and the NB.

METALLURGY LABThe Fike Metallurgy Lab is vital to the design of engineered products, as it is used to increase the understanding of the behavior of manufacturing materials necessary for

different applications. Fike’s on-site location allows product investigations to be performed quickly and efficiently by a staff with nearly 40 years of metallurgical and materials science expertise.

Among the tests available through the Fike Metallurgy Lab are: • Analysis of rupture discs, plate, bar, pipes, etc., for size and shape, cleanliness, surface condition (including base metal and coatings), modes of failure, microstructural condition and constituents, grain size and boundary conditions, chemical segregation, and microhardness. • Microscopic measurement and analysis, image archiving and electronic reporting. • Pressure vessel soundness and material properties after heat treatment. • Disc score depth and shape consistency.• Heat treat furnace time; temperature and atmospheric effects on disc materials. • Corrosion effects on discs and corrosive properties of disc materials.
