English I integrates the use of increasingly complex language skills within the writing process during which students produce a variety of compositions that persuade, inform or describe using technology to revise, edit, and publish. An emphasis is placed on organizing logical arguments with clearly expressed related definitions, theses, and evidence. Students read a wide selection of multiple genres from world literature such as: selected stories, dramas, novels, poetry, and informational text. Students will also present ASL pieces that include the use of visual representations. A research paper/project is required. Policies & Procedures: You will be given a handbook at the beginning of the year explaining all of my classroom policies and procedures. It is your responsibility to MEMORIZE this handbook. Late Homework: Last year, many of you were not turning in missing assignments until the end of the term, even with my generous 2 day deadline. Missing assignments will NOT be accepted. Homework that is not turned in on-time will receive a grade of ZERO. Makeup work: (this includes exams) is not permitted for students who have unexcused absences. If you are absent (excused with a pass) and need to make-up an exam or class assignment, it is YOUR responsibility to make up that work within ONE WEEK from the day you return! NOTE: Assignments CAN be emailed to me! Gradebook & Class Websites: Because we have a laptop initiative I felt it was important for you to have access to a majority of our class information online. You

will be able to access your grades, assignments, quizzes, etc. all from the internet. Please take the time to review the following websites.
