Dear Ameena,

Last week we visited the Senior Citizen’s Home as our school had organized a trip to that

place. The people at the Home greeted us with a smiling face but still something was therewhich kept pricking me. It was definitely not an ear-to-ear smile. I decided to talk to them andwas shocked to know that they all felt dejected and distressed though they were provided allthe comforts there. I wondered how could people leave their parents in a home espically whenthey need them and their attention the most. All they want is a few words of love and sometime of yours. They had borne the family responsibilities in their youth but now that theirchildren have grown up, they have no time for their parents. They have left them in SeniorCitizen’s Home to lead a life of loneliness and rejection.

I think this is bad on the part of modern generation. Our parents and grandparents need to begiven love, affection and comfort at this age. We can cross all mountains with a little piece of advice from their experience. I hope and really wish that people will change their attitudetowards the old.

6. ‘Stress Management’ (6)

Stress has become a regular feature in today’s life-style. It is caused due to challenges posed bywork, financial obligations, social relationships and family commitments. Stress, to some extenthas a significant impact on our risk of developing heart disease. To overcome stress, one must berealistic and should avoid negative feelings and attitudes. Everything must be done in a methodicaland organised way by planning and prioritising the tasks. A friend circle and family member withwhom we can share any problem openly and friendly will also help us deal with stress. One mustset aside adequate time for rest and leisure in our daily routine. Deep breathing, shoulder andneck massages, meditation etc. can also help in managing stress.

14. Child care

A very good morning to all present here. Today, we are very happy to be here among you and a part

of the inaugration ceremony of ‘HOME’. We both are of the opinion that childhood is the mostprecious time of man’s life but it sometimes gets blotted by the curse of child-labour. The reasonsof child labour like poverty, lack of education, lack of parental care, wasteful war etc. kills theinnocence of the children. Even we had a bad childhood. We had got destroyed in the German war.Our father was killed in the war and we turned orphans at the tender age of 13 years and 12 years,we can’t forget the day when we came to know that our sister Lucia was suffering from Tuberculo-sis of the spine. We had no money for her medical expenses. We decided to work day and night forit but there was scarcity of jobs in Verona. Yet we did not lose courage. We did all sorts of odd jobsto make both ends meet and finally the day arrived when our sister got well. We were very happy.I personally feel that the government should come forward to help the needy children get themeducation so that they can lead a happy and prosperous life. Educated children will definitelyblossom into young and responsible adults. I hope ‘HOME’ will also work their level best to helpthe abandoned children so that they don’t lose their childhood. Rather they get proper educationand health care to help lead a happy and prosperous future life. (5)

Thank You.

16. Mrs. Edith Frank was a good lady. She had two daughters, Margot and Anne. She always wanted toinculcate good moral values and disciplined behavior in her daughters. But sometimes her attitudetowards Anne seemed to be immature. She didn’t have an in sight into the mind of a growingteenager. Most of the times she used to scold Anne for petty affairs and praised Margot in front of her which made Anne feel hurt. Anne always felt uncomfortable in her presence and regarded heras an imperfect mother. She longed for a mother who would understand her and love her as all

other mothers do. Mrs. Frank was never seen participating much in the squabbles during theirstay in hiding. She didn’t like the selfish attitude of Mrs. Van Daan and Mr. Alfred Dussel and onceor twice reproached them for being selfish. The tension in the Annexe used to give her a headache. It was leaving its impact on her. (5)

15. Helen’s most vivid recollection of that summer was the ocean. She had always lived on an inland, and had never been to sea. But she had read a description of the ocean in her big book called OurWorld. It filled her with wonder and an intense longing to touch the mighty sea and feel it roar. Soher little heart leaped with excitement when she knew that her wish was at last to be realized.

But her joy was short lived because she had no idea of the mighty sea waves. No sooner had sheplunged into the cool water than she was swept away by the sea waves. Suddenly her ecstasy gaveplace to terror, for her foot struck against a rock and the next instant there was a rush of water

over her head. She made a vain attempt to hold something concrete, But there was nothing exceptwater and sea weeds. But destiny wanted her to relate her experience with the sea. The gigantiesea waves threw her back on the sea shore. (5)

16.  After the illness which left Helen deaf and blind, her parents went to meet Dr. Chisholen, an eye,ear throat specialist in Baltimore. Subject : Creating Awarness Towards Health and Hygiene

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper I wish to draw the attention of the youngsterstowards the negligent attitude of people towards basic health and hygiene. The villagers are not

paying any attention to sanitation and personal hygiene which is leading them towards ill health. This hurdle can be overcome by organising Health Camps in these areas where we can make these villagers aware of their healthy life-style by means of discussions or Health check ups by special-ists. A small dispensary can also be set up there for their regular routine check up. They must betaught that cleanliness is next to godliness. I invite youngsters through this letter of mine to

volunteer their names so that we can put our plan into action. A little effort on our part will savethem from contracting serious diseases.

Thanking you

 Yours sincerely

 Amit

The doctor started her treatment. He bandgedher eyes and applied some medicine to her eyes. The doctor was a dishonest man. He saw many

valuable things and costly furniture in the house. He planned to steal them. Since the lady wasblind, he started removing something or the other everyday from the house without the knowl-edge of the lady. At last the day came when the lady got cured. The doctor asked for his paymentbut the lady refused to pay saying that her cure was not complete. The doctor took the lady to thecourt. The court asked the lady the reason for not paying the fees. The lady said that her sight wasnot restored as she could not see the furniture in her house. The judge understood the wholematter. He found the doctor guilty. The case was decided in the favour of the old lady and thedoctor was punished.

14. Letters and envelopes are not merely dead pieces of paper. They are the living documents of human love and concern. Who else but Ali can explain it well who in the whole chapter kept onwaiting for his daughter Miriam’s letter. He even gave up hunting as after his daughter’smarriage. He realized the essence of love and pangs of separation for his daughter who had left himto live with her husband. These pangs of separation transformed even the postmaster who couldalso understand the agony of a separated father when he himself waited for his sick daughter’sletter. Only a man with a father’s heart can understand the anxiety and worry of another father’s

separation from his child. The whole story revolves round the letter which both the postmasterand Ali waited for. Ali gave five gold guineas to Lakshmi Das to deliver his letter at his grave, afterhis death telling us the importance of Miriam’s letter. Thus, due importance must be given toletters and they should not be treated as merely pieces of paper. We must realize the value of relations. (5)

15. Helen spent the autumn months with her family at a summer cottage on a mountain about four-teen miles from Tuscumbia. It was called Fern Quarry because near it there was a limestonequarry, long since abandoned. It was a beautiful spot surrounded with tall oak and pine trees andechoes with the gurgling sound of three little streams flowing down the rocks in a zig zag manner. The opening was filled with ferns which completely covered the beds of limestone and in places hidthe stream, In places, the wild muscadine and cuppernong were stretched from tree to tree, mak-ing arbours which were always full of butteflies and buzzing insects. Helen and her companionswere delighted to loose themselves in the green hollows of that tangled wood in the afternoon. (5)

16. Helen had been a bold child since the very beginning of her life. If she had been a timid girl, shewould not have aspired to be great personality. She had a terrible experience of nature’s fury whilesitting in a tree on a fine morning. But this did not prevent her from climbing a tree for the secondtime. When she was lured by the sweet fragrance of a mimosae tree, she wanted it and climbed onit. She enjoyed herself greatly. When she grew up this daring nature, stood her in good stead inevery disaster. (5)

So, I request the concerned authorities to improve the quality of water supplied in our area andincrease the hours of supply so that the residents of our area do not face the problem. Everyone isaware that water is one basic necessity and we cannot do without it. I hope some positive action

Dear Diary,

I am very happy and excited today as the nurse who was looking after me in the hospital, informedme that I have completely recovered from my illness and now I can go home. I have been in thehospital for many months and was waiting for this day to arrive. But all the credit goes to myyounger brothers, Jacopo and Nicola who faced many hardships to pay my medical bills. I reallyadmire their sense of duty which they shared towards me even though they are much younger inage. I have realized the value of having caring siblings. The way they looked after me was amazing.I had never expected to be taken care of so tenderly after my parent’s death. I really thank Godthat my brothers love me so much. I’ve decided that once I’m out in the world , I’ll work as asinger and with the earnings will give my brothers a good life. They have suffered a lot. But nowI can see a silver lining. May God bless my brothers.

15.  As thirteen years old girl, Anne felt that her friends and family all misunderstood her. Thus, sheturned to the diary as a new friend and confided in it, counting on the diary to be the sympathetic,non-judgmental ear she has been unable to find elsewhere. The diary offered Anne much solace in theannex because she was in need of companionship. Until she befriended Peter. Anne had no one

other than her diary with whom she could openly share her fear, anger, sadness, and hope. Annecalled the diary “Kitty”. She considered it as a close friend.

Anne frequently turned to her diary for comfort because she never wanted to burden the alreadyovertaxed adults with her own concerns. Thus Anne felt that paper has more patience than people.

Dear Diary,

It was a wonderful day for me as my teacher praised me a lot in the class. Actually, Bhavesh myfriend, had not been attending school as he was suffering from fever. He lagged behind in hisstudies and was quite upset. I told him not to worry as I would help in catching up all the work he

had missed. I took permission from my parents and started devoting one hour in the evening toBhavesh’s studies. At first, I made him finish all the written work then I helped him in his projectwork and also in solving maths sums. He is a bright student and picked up the pace quickly. I hadnever thought I would feel so happy after this. A sense of contentment overwhelmed me whenBhavesh caught up with all the work. Next day he told the teacher the efforts I had undergone tohelp him. The teacher was happy due to the teacher’s acknowledgement of my efforts. But no, itwas not because of that. I was happy as I had helped someone in his times of need.

school had arranged special buses. We were forty-seven students in all and ten teachers accompanied

us. We visited the City Palace Museum first of all. It is a beautiful place with sparkling white

balconies and windows. The throne kept there was majestic and takes one into world of kings and

princes. Then we visited the Fatehgarh Sagar lake which is surrounded by hills on three sides. It

was a marvellous day. Next we visited the Kumbalgarh fort which was built by Maharaja Kumbha.

This beautiful city of Rajasthan made us realize how beautiful and royal the world of kings was.

History, which till now was boring for me, seems to have many interesting things stored in it. We

enjoyed the trip very much and come back after three days. I can never forget these three days.

Pay my regards to Uncle and Aunt.

 Yours sincerely

6. Grading System

Good morning to all present here. Today I, Rahul of XE stand before you to share my views for the

motion. The grading system will promote healthy competition in a better way. “Recently the new

pattern of CCE has been introduced which stresses upon the grading system instead of marking

system. In my opinion it is a wonderful idea as with the onset of this system, neck to neck

competition and the resultant tension has vanished from the students mind. As a result, students

are now more confident while appearing for their exams. Nervousness is no where to be found.

The present system focuses on the all-round development of a child’s personality. it has reduced

the stress of board exams and has made the students more relaxed and at ease. Therefore it is a

good step towards the holistic development of a child. If a child is consistent and puts in continuous

efforts, he/she can attain goods grades. The grading system has brought in several ‘toppers’ instead

of one. In my opinion, this is the best ever decision taken by the board for welfare of students. (6)

6. The Role of Students in Removing Illiteracy

Good morning to all present. Today, I Anirudh Duggal, of Class X-C stand here in front of you toexpress my views on the topic. “The role of students in removing illiteracy.” Friends, we all knowthat illiteracy is a blot on India. Most of people living in villages are illiterate. The causes aremany. To name a few are poverty, lack of opportunities and ignorance. In my opinion education isa must as it enlightens a man and makes him perfect. It helps him to prosper physically, economicallyand spiritually. Moreever it broadens our outlook towards the world.

To overcome this hurdle in the path of knowledge and prosperity we must spare some time in aday to follow the motto ‘Each One Teach One.’ Governement and non-government organizationsshould also come up with programmes and campaigns to make people aware of the advantages of literacy. Some incentives like mid-day meals can be provided and other gifts or rewards must begiven. We, the students, can do it easily. We can organize some camps in the villages or slumareas or we can start night classes as these people are busy in their work during the day-time. Wemust unite our hands to make this effort a success and to make our country progress. (6)

16. Helen was a great woman who lost her sight and hearing when she was a child. The beautifulbright world became dark and dull. It took her some time to realize that she was different fromothers as she felt that others did not communicate like her. There was movement of their lipswhen they communicated. At first she became impatient. She threw temper tantrums at timesbut gradually realized that there was another way to come out of the dark and silent way. it wasto be done with the help of her feelings of the heart and touch; Miss Anne Sullivan, her teacher, helped her a lot in adjusting to the new dark world. She taught her everything right from words

to sentences. Miss Sullivan sometimes had to face problems while teaching the abstract nounslike ‘love’ but with her patience, she handled Helen, the child and made her learn such words.Once Helen had done swimmming when she was at Brewstor. She was enjoying the feel of waterwhen suddenly her foot struck against a rock and she felt herself drowning. All her efforts to saveherself went in vain. But somehow, the water threw her back on the shore and she was saved. Shetook some time to recover and then again went to sit on a big rock and felt the ocean water. Thisincident didn’t defer her courage. It another instance, she had almost jumped down a big treewhen there was heavy rain and she got terrified. She took some time to gather her courage butshe climbed another tree. Thus we can say that she had a great strength and courage whichhelped her come out of her dark and silent world. (5)
