THE RIGHT METHODPolishing the base edge before sharpening the edge side
Fig.a : with tuningPolishing the base edge, before sharpening the side, quickly produces a sharp edge with minimal thinning of the edge
Fig.b : without tuningSharpening the side edge without previously polishing the base edge, means more steel must be removed in order to achieve a sharp edge.
Polishing the base edgeSharpening the side edge Thinning of the edgeABS sidewall material removal with the Tuning-File sidewall plane
With ToolTonic technology, it is easy to tune the edges by yourself. The best way is to tune the edges slightly 1 but frequently, in just two to three minutes per edge. Skis and snow-boards then provide constant optimal manoeuverability and an excellent grip in hard packed snow conditions.
Slight tuning removes so little metal from the edge, that you can repeat it dozens of times with the tools of the TBOX or TBOXPLUS and a few hundred times with the "Twin Roto Concept" (ULTRA, ULTI or ULTIRACE boxes).
In very hard packed snow or icy conditions, we recommend tuning the edges every other day.
If the base edge and the base have major damage, we recommend taking your skis or boards to your ski shop for a machine grinding of the whole base including the base edge.

TOOLTONICTooltonic develops and manufactures high quality tools in Switzerland for the hand sharpening of skis and snow-board edges. These tools are precise, easy to use, and ensure a quick return on investment. They have been unanimously recognized and used with enthusiasm by occasional riders as well as world-class competitors.
Sustainable development is important to us. Therefore, we offer robust, locally manufactured tools, as well as a wide range of spare parts.
FOUR GOOD REASONS TO TUNE YOUR SKI EDGES " TUNING "Tuning consists of (fig. a) :Lightly grinding (polishing) the base edge to remove scratches and reduce roughness in order to increase manoeuverability and steering precision of skis and snowboards Sharpening the side of the edge to remove round-ness and restore the cutting edge.

The most advanced sharpening set on the market Tuning-File RACE : 7 partsTuning-File standard : 6 parts
With the Tuning-File, it is easy to quickly and precisely tune any kind of skis and snowboards. The sharpening angle can be adjusted from 0 ° to 6 ° (recommended angles, page 16). In its soft pouch, the Tuning-File (77 x 30 x 50 mm) (3 '' x 1 1/4 '' x 2 '') fits easily in the pocket for on slope re-sharpening (edge damage or icy conditions).
The patented Tuning-File solves 4 sharpening problems thanks to the following innovations :
Problem 1 : The tool tips away easily because its design does not offer a stable enough support against the base. Our solution : our exclusive design means the whole handle is positioned against the base and no part overlaps. The pressure against the base is uniform, as strong at the bottom as at the top, which prevents the tool from tilting away.

Problem 2 : the file slips on the edge surface which has been cold worked (hardened) by stones or by machine sharpening applied with too much force. Our solution : before filing, restore a normal hardness to the edges by pre-grinding with the abrasive diamond on the back of the file.
Problem 3 : steel chips produced by the filing of the edge are often crushed and embedded in the base as a result of the movement of the tool. Our solution : the tool is fitted with an elastic polyester membrane that automatically drives the steel chips away from the base.
Problem 4 : the plastic which runs along the edge prevents the files from easily cutting the steel. Our solution : The tungsten carbide plane, which is fixed to the handle, easily clears the edge. It does not need any setting and stops automatically when a sufficient depth of plastic is removed.

The Tuning-File RACE file is made of metal-cerami-cs, whose hardness lies between diamond and regular file steel. It there-fore offers an exceptional cut and wear resistance.

A revolutionary tool for light re-sharpening and polishing.
The patented Roto-Finish Diamond discs grind (light re-sharpening) and polish three times quicker than a fixed diamond file. In addition, the rotation generates uniform wear of the whole diamond surface. This is a great advantage over fixed diamond files that tend to wear in grooves, resulting in a rounded edge.
The Roto-Finish devices are fixed to the Tuning-File handle. They are available in 4 different grit sizes and come with 2 self-adhesive replacement diamonds.
Rotation is produced by the back and forth motion along the edge.
ROTO-FINISH Auto-rotating diamonds 1)
Quick, easy and effective sharpening, repeatable several hundred times since very little metal is removed from the edge.
With this revolutionary concept, developed at the request by World Cup teams, frequent sharpening is not done with filing but with the Roto-Finish 200 (grinding) followed by polishing with the Roto-Finish 400.

To take care of the base edge (edge bevel) before sharpening the edge side.
The secret of manoeuverability and steering precision of skis and snow-boards is a polished base edge, without rust, marking or too many scratches.
Long diamond files (150 x 20 mm)(6 '' x 3/4 '') and the Race bevel file are inserted into our file-guides where they can slide freely giving uniform wear over the entire surface of the diamond. Without freely sliding, wear appears in grooves with the undesi-rable effect of rounding the edge

For more grip on hard packed / icy snow conditions
The Ice-Catcher is fixed to the Tuning-File handle. After the edge has been sharpened, it takes only one pass with the Ice-Catcher under the binding area to ensure a longer-lasting and even sharper edge. The pressure applied by the Ice-Catcher creates a cold worked (hardened) flat on the side edge and a small lip underneath.1)
The lip can be removed with one of our bevel tuning sets.
