Tempe O’KunA North Dakota native, Tempe O’Kun graduated from BSC with degrees in English and Computer Science in 2006 and embarked on a successful career as a novelist and game designer. His works center around anthropomorphized animals and have won the Coyótl and Bronze Typewriter Awards, and have been nominated for Ursa Major and Spur Awards. He’s published Sixes Wild: Manifest Destiny and Sixes Wild: The Bluff (a fantasy western series), Nordguard: The Card Game, as well as various stories, poems, and comics in Sofawolf Press’s acclaimed Heat anthologies. Tempe’s newest novel, Adaptation, comes out this fall – it’s a cosmic horror romantic comedy.

He goes on book tour with his publisher at several conventions each year and will be guest of honor at Camp Feral in Toronto this year.

Tempe frequently cites BSC as critical to his success and is now returning to teach at his alma mater.

We’ll dabble in popular color personality inventories and explore popular use and socio-cultural impact of color. Creating with CopperCopper metal is one of the most accessible and popular metals available to crafters. Because of its lovely, warm color, copper has become the sweetheart metal for jewelry designers. Copper is also very soft and easy to work with, making it a natural choice for experimentation. This class will explore a wide range of applications for copper and will utilize many of its forms: copper leaf and foil, wire and tubing, mesh and copper sheet. We’ll explore multiple ways for joining copper with other materials, including clay immersion, stitching, gluing, soldering, cool enameling and resins. Participants will create four hands-on projects during the course, each one building in skill and complexity of techniques. No experience required! rts Natural Beauty ProductsLearn to use natural, simple ingredients to create healthy beauty products! Try your hand natural soap-making (rebatching cold-process soap), beeswax based body creams, tisane toners, and mineral cosmetics. We’ll use plants from the garden and farmers’ markets, as well as many locally sourced ingredients. Participants will learn about the process of creating scents using fragrance oils, as well as standard- and therapeutic-grade essential oils. Differences between commercial products and natural and/or organic products will be explored. A supply fee of $20 is payable at the time of class registration.

Pain Management: Learning the Source of Your PainIf you or someone you love lives in lingering pain, and you have been looking for a new way to treat it, it’s time to consider alternative methods! This class will use essential oils to break the code of pain and teach people how to manage it better. Using Art for Personal HealingLearn how to use various art media and techniques as a path to personal growth and healing. Capturing the Wild YeastYeast is the soul of bread. Capturing wild yeast cultures and creating artisan loaves takes a little time and planning, but you can learn how to make a beautiful crusty loaf of bread with four simple ingredients - flour, water, salt and air. Baking your own bread saves money and is a much healthier alternative to purchased breads with incredible amounts of sodium. Pawsitively ObedientWant a well-behaved dog? Want to know how to train your dog “pawsitively”? Learn the basics of obedience training in this class. Pawsitively PuppyIncrease your puppy’s confidence, respect, trust, and interaction skills “pawsitively.” In this class for you and any puppy 6 months and younger, learn the basics of puppy behavior and simple obedience. Each session will be divided into five segments: 1) Puppy 101; 2) behavior issues including mouthing, biting, and chewing; 3) obedience instruction such as “focus,” “sit,” and “down”; 4) a controlled confidence activity, such as tunnel play or hoops; 5) playtime for positive interaction with other dogs and people. The tasks listed above are just a sample of what will be discussed! Each week, a new concept will be introduced and previous concepts reviewed, so that you and your puppy build its skills. Understanding Your Auto InsuranceWhen you ask people about what type of automobile insurance coverage they have, the response is typically - “we have full coverage.” “Full coverage” is most often not “appropriate coverage.” Knowing what types and levels of insurance coverage to buy can be complex and confusing. This course is designed to help you understand the various types of coverage available, the levels of coverage that may best meet your needs, and the risks involved to you and your family by not having appropriate insurance coverage. The course will be taught by a local attorney with over 30 years of experience dealing with automobile insurance issues. Real life examples of problems associated with not having adequate insurance coverage will be referenced. This information is important for anyone who wants to learn more about auto insurance coverage and how to be “appropriately insured,” not just “fully insured.”

This course, valued at $29, is being presented compliments of Maring Williams Law Office. Participants are encouraged to bring a copy of their automobile insurance declarations page to class.

s FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWill I receive a confirmation?If you register yourself online, you will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours. If you register by mail or call in, you will receive confirmation after we process your registration. Please review your confirmation, which will detail location, special supplies or material fees.

What if I cannot attend a course as planned?If you need to withdraw or change your registration in a class, you must call our registration staff at (701) 224-5600 or (877) 846-9387 at least five (5) business days before the class starts. You will receive a refund according to the refund policy of that class and through the same method in which the class was paid. There are no refunds or transfers allowed if you notify us fewer than five days before the class starts.

What is the refund/drop policy?Refunds granted at the participants’ request will incur a $15 processing fee per class to be deducted from the amount refunded. All refunds are made by mail unless paid with a credit card; in which case the card is credited. Please allow four weeks to process refunds. If cancellation is less than five (5) business day prior to the first session no refund is available. Full refunds are guaranteed if BSC Continuing Education, Training & Innovation cancels a course.

Can a class be cancelled because of low enrollment?If we have to cancel a class due to low enrollment, we will notify you as soon as possible before the class is scheduled to begin. You will receive a full refund of your tuition or transfer to another course of your choice, space permitting.

How do I know if a course is canceled?In the event a class must be canceled, participants will be notified prior to the start of the class. In case of inclement weather, please check local radio and television stations for class cancellation announcements.

When registering, you will always be prompted to choose which member(s) of the household to register for each class.

• We are part of the North Dakota University System, so many of the terms used on the registration site refer to “student”. This term refers to anyone participating in an enrichment class.
