ABOUT US

Since 1978, Fayette Senior Services, Inc., (FSS) an independent, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, has been providing a wide array of life -en-riching services to Fayette County residents age 50 and better. Fayette County, Georgia, is home to one of the fastest growing senior populations in metro Atlanta – and the age 60+ population segment is projected to grow an astonishing 450% by 2040. This statistic alone makes our mission — to make a meaningful difference in the emotional, social, and physical well-being of older adults — all the more critical. By fostering independence, improving quality of life, and enhancing the community connection, the programs and services we provide are an essential part of our community.

Not-for-profit FSS enjoys a unique public/private partnership with Fay-ette County government. Through this agreement we provide a variety of supportive services such as Meals On Wheels, Transportation, In-home Personal Care/ Homemaker Services, Care Management, Information As-sistance, and more. We could not do that without our government partners; however, we believe it is our responsibility to complement the public sup-port to ensure we can continue serving Fayette’s seniors for generations to come. Therefore, we feel it’s important to note that less than half of our revenue comes from sources other than federal, state, and local govern-ments.

Fayette Senior Services is recognized as a model of sustainability and social entrepreneurship among peer organizations and nongovernment funders. Although we are proud of this recognition, we could not do all that we do without the support from charitable donors, Center members, volunteers, grantees, and the community that so generously supports our fundraising efforts.

The aging transition can be paved with a broad spectrum of challenges. However, it can also prove to be rich with opportunities. The key to “ag-ing well” is knowledge. When it comes to addressing those unique needs, Fayette Senior Services Life Enrichment Center is the one-stop shop for empowering older adults to live well and age well.

Our Life Enrichment Center in Fayetteville is uniquely different from tra-ditional senior centers. Our beautiful facility is a vibrant place where adults age 50+ come to socialize with friends, enjoy a great meal in our Ultimate café, re-energize their bodies, exercise their minds, and lift their spirits.

To make sure our programs and activities are within easy reach to more seniors, we are proud to have established a new community partnership with the city of Peachtree City. We now offer many new programs and activities in Peachtree City at the Gathering Place (next to “The Fred” Amphitheater). We’re adding new classes and activities each month during our expansion to PTC, so stay tuned for more!

We are proud to be making life better in our community. The Fayette Senior Services Staff

When You Need a Little Help From Some Friends...We offer supportive services that make a meaningful difference in the emotional, social, and physical well being of older adults by preserving their indepen-dence, improving their quality of life, and connecting them to the community.

Meals On WheelsMeals on Wheels is a needs-based program for

homebound, or semi-homebound, seniors who are unable to provide themselves with regular nutritious meals due to physical or financial challenges. The service also connects homebound seniors to the community through daily social contact, which also helps to ensure their well-being.

Ani-Meals To many homebound seniors, having a pet is a

source of companionship and comfort. The AniMe-als™ program is designed to give our Meals On Wheels clients a little help with the cost of pet food to make sure that maintaining that important bond isn’t an added burden.

STAR Program (Seniors Together After Retirement)

Our STAR program (Seniors Together After Retire-ment) offers individuals 60 and older an opportu-nity to come together for socialization, recreational activities, health and wellness classes, and a nutri-tious meal in our Ultimate Cafe. Transportation to and from the Center may also be available to eligible participants.

Transportation For older adults who no longer drive, getting to

essential medical appointments, to the pharmacy, to church, or to the grocery store can be a challenge, putting their health and well-being at risk. We pro-vide safe and affordable door-to-door transportation options. Wheelchair assistance available.

Information & Assistance Our certified Information & Assistance Specialists

are the gateway to connecting older adults with the right community resources or providing information to address their specific needs.

In-Home Personal Care/Homemaker Services This service enables older adults to remain liv-

ing independently by providing compassionate care from trained personnel who perform simple home-maker and/or personal care tasks, such as light housekeeping or assistance with bathing. Delivered with the utmost personal respect and dignity, our services can also bring much needed respite to caregivers.

Care Management Our professional staff of social workers helps

older adults make informed decisions to enhance independent living and quality of life. Our Care Man-agers offer consultations, assessments, and follow-up to assist individuals and families in planning and care. We also provide invaluable support to caregiv-ers.

Adult Day Care We contract with a trusted and licensed local pro-

vider of adult day care services that offers a caring environment focused on the individual’s physical and emotional well-being, as well as social and rec-reational activities. Transportation is available.

Medical Equipment Lending We lend gently used medical equipment to individ-

uals, families, and caregivers. Equipment is loaned on a first come-first served basis.

Home Repair Services Our Tool Team helps older adults who are either

physically and/or financially unable to perform mi-nor, routine home maintenance tasks and repairs. The Tool Team also specializes in disability addi-tions, such as grab bars.

Eligibility requirements apply for some programs. Some services may be provided free of charge (tax deductibledonations welcome) or based on a sliding scale of income. Contact Lyn Thomas, our Information Specialist, at 770-461-0813.

volunteer spotlight

After being retired for over a year and being a bit bored, Donna Fletcher finally took the advice of some friends and came to see what Fayette Senior Services was all about. Tom Peck gave her a tour, she saw some friendly faces, and she was hooked. That was nearly two years ago. Soon after becoming a member, she decided that she’d like to volunteer. She has been volunteering in The Ultimate Café for over a year now. She also line dances here at the center and has participated in the aerobics classes in the past.

The Kentucky native has lived in Georgia for the past 25 years. She has a husband, 4 sons, 3 daughter-in-laws, 3 grandchildren, a dog and a cat.

She says that she and her husband spend much of their time simply enjoying their home, their chil-dren, and their grandchildren.

When she isn’t here at the center, Donna spends quite a bit of time working at home for the trucking company that she and her husband own. They are contracted heavy haulers for Georgia Power. With the company and family life, she stays busy.

They are members of Lisbon Baptist Church here in Fayetteville. They donate to their church and other organizations quite a bit. The Humane Society, Shriner’s Hospital, and the Hospice Unit at Christian City are a few of those other groups. In addition to helping others, Donna loves to spend time with her friends, some of who she met her at the center. She described the people here as “so giving, loving, and appreciating.” She says that she has met amazing people from all walks of life here and that’s a big part of the reason she keeps coming back.

Donna is one of the many volunteers that are greatly appreciated here at Fayette Senior Ser-vices. Next time you see her in The Ultimate Café, be sure to say hello and thank her for all that she does!!

Fredine Jordan has been a member of Fayette Senior Services for 3 ½ years. She had heard about the many activities at the center and thought they’d be good to help her regain her strength from a serious illness. She started out just attend-ing chair aerobics. She soon moved up to stand-ing aerobics, Zumba, line dance, and Tai Chi. She attributes her recovery to her faith in God and the exercises offered at the center.

She now visits the center at least 3 times a week to participate in classes or just to have lunch. She line dances and participates in aerobics regularly. She has also learned to play many new games like Phase 10, Five Crowns, and Skip Bo. She also likes to attend classes and watch movies at the center.

She grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a preacher’s daughter and the youngest of 14 children. She moved to Atlanta 45 years ago and married her husband, George. After they had both retired early from their jobs about 15 years ago, they moved to Fayetteville. She was a CPA

and tax accountant at BellSouth Corporation. George worked in the Engineering Department at Lockhead Martin. After retirement, Fredine went on to earn a Master’s of Divinity Degree in Christian Education. Together, they have one son, George III, a patent attorney, and two grandsons, George IV and Robert, who reside in Houston, Texas.

Since retirement, Fredine took on many new hobbies. Those include golf, scrapbooking, floral arranging, and reading. Her first love has always been teaching God’s Word. She is a member of New Hope Church. She says it is the only places she likes to be more than Fayette Senior Services.

We enjoy having her here as much as she loves coming. I’m sure you’ll notice her smiling face the next time you’re here at Fayette Senior Services!
