Renewable resources are made from resources that are grown sustainably and may also be a by-product of another process. Sugar cane pulp for example is a renewable resource and is a by-product of the crushing process to make sugar.

Natural Fibre Bagasse is a fibrous product that is a by-product of crushed sugarcane or bamboo. Bagasse is used as a fuel for sugarcane and bamboo production, but there is an excess of bagasse after this use. The fibrous product is then pulped and moulded to form containers, plates and other packaging products.

GP 300 is a PLA(polyactide) based alloy with PBS(Poly Butylene Succinate) and is certified as a biodegradable resin and meet ASTM D6400, EN13432.

EPI technology gives polyethelene the ability to be degradable, biodegradable and compostable. An oxo-biodegradable additive allows the plastic to break down when exposed to UV light, heat and oxygen. Once the plastic has degraded into small pieces, with the presence of moisture and microorganisms, the plastic is then consumed and turned into biomass, making the product biodegradable and compostable.

Ingeo is a brand of PLA that we use to manufacture our PLA line of products. Ingeo performs much like traditional plastics, but are made from annually renewable resources like corn plants and is compostable and biodegradable. Ingeo is generally made from dextrose which is derived from field corn, this corn is not a food variety, but is instead grown for industrial purposes. Less CO2 emissions are produced whilst manufacturing an EPI product compared to traditional plastic products.

PLA (polylactic acid) is a material derived from starch. Starch can come from a variety of renewable resources including corn and tapioca. CPLA is a copolymer PLA and withstands higher temperatures, thus more suitable for products exposed to high heats, yet is still biodegradable and compostable.

Compostable products will biodegrade within a cycle of a compost process. The key difference between biodegradable and compostable is time. Not all biodegradable products are considered compostable because they may take longer to break down into biomass which consists of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, also known as plant matter.

Degradable materials break down when exposed to certain conditions, in a faster period of time than regular materials. They consist of an additive which allows them to break down when exposed to conditions such as sunlight and oxygen.

Biodegradable means that a product will break down into biomass by means of bacteria, enzymes or living organisms. Biomass consists of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, also known as plant matter. Essentially a biodegradable product is one that will be consumed by microorganisms if disposed of in the right damp, warm conditions for microorganisms to live.

Recyclable products are those that can be commonly recycled through the recycling stream and waste management systems. Products that are recyclable and meet the Envirochoice brand are those that are already manufactured from recycled material, but can also be re-recycled.
