Old-Fashioned Apple Crisp Recipe from Taste of Home Yield: 4 - 6 Servings

Prep: 15 min Cook Time: 30 - 35min Ingredients:

4 cups sliced peeled tart apples (about 3 medium)

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/3 cup cold butter or margarine

Vanilla ice cream, optional Place apples in a greased 8-in. square baking dish. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and allspice; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake at 3750 for 30 - 35 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.

Keep what you have committed…

“When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.” Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 (NIV 2011) Recently, I was disturbed by a response to a post on social media. I thought I could let it go, but I guess I was wrong. A friend of mine talked about the difficulty he was having with his young children’s sports interfering with church. He admitted that he enjoyed watch-ing them play, especially since they were actually pretty good ath-letes, but they had committed to raising their children in the church, and were not deviating from this way of life. I was so proud of this young man, as I have seen him grow from a single man, to a young married man, to a father leading his family. He and his wife had made a vow to God and were not delaying in fulfilling that vow. So, what’s the problem? A reply to this young man, in short, stated that they had also made a commitment to the team and they should not be so legalistic about church; stating that God knew their heart. This is the comment I simply can’t let go by without taking issue, because I believe it is how many feel through our communities. God does, in fact, know our hearts. That ought to scare us to death. As summer is upon us and we have choices to make; where to be, what to be involved with, and who to talk to…know that God does, in fact know your heart. If you have committed to be with the Lord, then do it and don’t delay. This is not a legalistic issue, it’s a relationship issue. It’s about making sure that you have allowed yourself the time for those things that are important. And, to ad-dress comments like, “they made a commitment to the team,” well, the commitment to God outweighs any commitment to anyone, at any time. Notice, I didn’t say commitment to a particular church location, but to God. This is not bashing those that miss church service. This is a reminder to place God first. Ask yourself this question, this summer: will I commit to make sure that I find a place to worship even when I find myself out of town? Can you commit to worshipping God EVERY Sunday, no matter where you are this summer? Don’t take this lightly…remember Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 and keep what you have committed. In His Service, Bro. Grant
