FROM THE PRINCIPAL EDUCATION WEEK OPEN DAY Welcome to Education week. The theme for this year is 'Today's schools – creating tomorrow's world.’ As indicated previously, Epping Public School will have its Open Day on Wednesday 8 August. The itinerary for the day is as follows:

9:30am – 10:25am Classroom Visits During this time parents will be able to visit classrooms, the library, the computer lab, the EAL/D Rooms, Support, Hearing Support Rooms and the Book Fair in the CAPA room. Students may accompany their parents or visitors on walking around the school to look at these areas.

10:30am – 11:45am Each stage will present a performance in the school hall. Seating will be available for parents and visitors. Students will be brought to the hall in stage groups and return to the classroom after the performance.

Book Fair 8:30am – 12:30pm & 2:30pm – 4:30pm Unfortunately because of lack of space there will be no picnic lunch this year. However the Book Fair will be open for extended hours

A map of the school with classrooms, halls and other areas will be included at the back of the newsletter. We look forward to many of our parents helping to celebrate Open Day with us.

During the Open Day we ask that parents follow the following two rules:

1. All prams must be left outside the classrooms, hall and other rooms during visits. This needs to be done to allow safe exit in case of an emergency. 2. During classroom visits parents supervise toddlers and preschoolers to ensure that classroom displays and resources are not damaged.

You will find a school map located elsewhere in our newsletter. PHOTOGRAPHING OR FILMING PROTOCOLS We understand how important it is to have memories of children involved in their growing years. We understand that many of those memories involve events or receiving awards at school. As such the school has developed a set of protocols which we ask you to follow for the

benefit of everyone. These protocols are outlined below. We ask that you read and adhere to them. Film and photograph opportunities will usually occur at major events such as carnivals, parades, assemblies, special days. If you wish to film or photograph at any other time you must consult with the class of the supervising teacher beforehand. Filming or photographing can only occur with the following understanding: • The focus of the filming or photographing must be your own child. • Any film or photograph taken must only be for personal use. • Photos or films that have any other children, other than your own, must not be placed on social media. During filming or photographing please adhere to the following rules: • Ensure the focus of filming or photographing is on your child. • Do not obstruct the view of any part of the audience when filming or photographing. Move to a position where no one’s view is hindered. • Obey any specific rule that may be in place for that particular event. Failure to follow these protocols may result in you being requested to leave the event or occasion. We look forward to your co-operation in this matter to ensure that the event or occasion is enjoyable for everyone.

SEMESTER 2 PLANS Semester plans for each stage will be sent home later this week. The plans will also be placed on the school website in the section ‘For Parents’.

MORNING ASSEMBLY I still have to remind our parents that of a morning they need to drop their children and leave the school grounds. This is necessary because of the limited space on our playground. I am aware that many would like to be part of our assembly as they were previously but I have to be fair to all our parents. This means that if everyone can’t stay then no one can stay. I apologise for this as I do encourage our community to be part of our school but during construction we will need to make

Opportunities for All

compromises to operate efficiently. With regard to all the construction and changes, we will endeavour to keep parents informed through our Strategic Direction 3.

TERM 3 INVOICE We will be sending out our Term Invoices this week. Once again I remind parents that our preferred option for payment is online, however we will be accepting cash in 2018 but will become a cashless school in 2019. By John Ford

GROUP PHOTOS POSTPONED Photos for special groups such as sporting, debating, dance & drama etc has been postponed due to the inclement weather until Thursday 9 August. Year 6 graduation photo will also be taken on this day. Full school uniform for everyone is to be worn. Sporting groups need to bring their sports uniform with them to change into for the photo.

LIBRARY Our Book Fair opens on Wednesday August 8 (in the CAPA room) as part of Open Day. The opening times are: Wednesday 8 August: 8.30am to 12.30pm 2.30pm to 4.30pm Thursday 9 August: 8.30am to 9.15am 3.20pm to 4.00pm Friday 10 August: 8.30am to 9.15am If you would like to donate a book from the Book Fair to our school library there will be selected books highlighted. A special label will be put in the front of the book with your family’s name in appreciation for your generosity. You may wish to bring a carry bag if you are purchasing books. BOOK COVERING Our book covering morning was a great success and our volunteers covered lots of new books for the library. Your help was most appreciated and I now have some parents who are available to come in regularly to help with this task. Mrs Penny Bulgin Relieving Teacher Librarian

OUR SCHOOL UNIFORM – BE PROUD. At Epping Public School, the wearing of full and correct school uniform is valued by the school community. When the children are wearing the

Opportunities for All

school uniform they are representing Epping Public School, so it is important that the full and correct uniform is worn by everyone. As well as being a symbol of unity, pride, identity and belonging, the school uniform provides a measure of protection for students travelling to and from school. The wearing of the Epping Public School’s new uniform is currently in the implementation stage, and will become mandatory from Day 1, 2020. The design of our new uniform was researched, planned, negotiated and implemented by our school uniform committee. This committee comprises representatives from the staff, student and parent members of our school community. The committee considered design, issues of equality, health, safety and expense when planning the uniform. The school uniform was agreed upon by the school community. This week is Education Week and our school will be celebrating by having an Open Day on Wednesday, 8 August. Students are encouraged to wear the correct and complete school uniform (either the traditional or new uniform) every day, and we ask that students are in correct school uniform on Open Day and demonstrate their pride in our school. Don’t forget that our uniform policy tells us students should wear enclosed, black school shoes every day except on sports days (there will be no sport on Open Day). All students will be performing on stage on the day and taking pride in how they dress when they are representing themselves and our school will be a focus. This is a valuable lesson and life skill they will use during their time at school and as proud and respectful members of society. Over this term, the students will be exploring how to wear their uniforms with even more pride than they do now. Parents can help by talking to their children about personal and school identity and the positive feelings and effects of taking pride in themselves and their school brings. During Week 3, students will identify the different parts of uniforms of people in our community, including Emergency Services, sporting teams and local organisations. They will identify how uniforms are designed and why they are worn. The students will look at our school’s Winter uniform to recognise what our correct and complete school uniform looks like.
