Special Religious Education and Non-Religious Classes Special Religious Education (SRE) and Non-Religious classes will commence in Week 5 (Tuesday 26 February 2019). As per the new Departmental Policy, Epping Public School is required to provide parents with the online links to the authorised curriculum scope and sequences that each provider will be teaching in their scripture class throughout the year. We have provided these links below but they can also be accessed on the school website. The links are: Anglican Diocese of Sydney http://www.whysre.com.au/sre-curriculum/cep-curriculum-overview/ Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) https://www.bbcatholic.org.au/parish-community/ministries/ccd Islamic Council of NSW https://www.isre.org.au/ Vishva Hindu Parishad of Australia http://www.vhp.org.au/content/sre-hindu-dharma-scripture-teachers-classes-nsw-public-school Nominated Non-Religious classes will continue. Students continue in the same arrangement each year, unless a parent/caregiver has requested a change in writing. At any time, you have the right to change your SRE nomination to withdraw your child from the nominated lessons. A note to the school will affect this change. From Teresa Lewis SRE Coordinator

LIBRARY

I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday with opportunities to do some relaxing reading with your child. Here are some handy library tips for the start of the year: Borrowing will begin in Week 4. Students will need to bring a library bag each week on their library day so that they can borrow books. Some students like to keep their library bag in their school bag at all times so that they can also borrow books before school or at lunchtimes. Students are asked to return their books either the day before their library lesson or before school on the day of their library lesson.

When is the library open?

• The library is open before school from 8.50am to 9.20am every day except Wednesday.

• At lunchtime the library is open for students from 11.50am to 12.15pm every day except Friday.

• After school the library is open every day until 3.30pm. If the library is not open a trolley is left outside the library so that books may still be returned. How many books can my child borrow?

• Kindergarten: 1 book per week for Term 1

• Years 2-4: 2 books per week

• Years 5 and 6: 3 books per week The library management system we use is Oliver. You can log into your account from home to search, renew or reserve books from our library. Go to: https://www.det.nsw.edu.au and log in to the Student Portal with your school computer log in details. Click on the Oliver icon at the top of the page to get you into the library. Once you are in the library you will see an icon called Orbit. Clicking on Orbit will take you to the library catalogue for children which is an easy way for students to search for books. Happy reading! From Mrs Penny Bulgin Teacher Librarian

School Photos

School photos will be taken at school on Wednesday 20 February, 2019. Envelopes for each child have been sent home today with instructions on how to order and pay for photos. Sibling photos are available and parents must order on a Separate Siblings Envelope which can be obtained from the school office. As we are a cashless school, we prefer parents choose the ONLINE PAYMENTS option when paying for the photos. Please complete the ordering process and return the envelope to your child’s teacher by Monday 18 February. Students will be given their envelopes on photo day as each student needs to hand in their own completed envelope on the day of photography. If you have any enquiries regarding student photos, please email the photographers at [email protected]

Building News

The construction of the new learning building at Epping Public School is well underway with the Contractor, Grindley, achieving the first slab pour (Level 1 slab on-ground) and completion of in-ground services to the new building, prior to the Christmas break. The second slab (Level 2 suspended slab), columns, walls and stairs were poured last fortnight, along with the scaffold to the perimeter of the new building being erected. Formwork to the Level 3 suspended slab has commenced this week and will continue alongside the introduction of reinforcement and post-tensioning works required before Grindley’s scheduled concrete pour, next fortnight.
