We all arrived early in the morning to catch a bus that left at 8:30am. After a ferry ride, we arrived at Broken Bay at around 11:00am in the morning. Over the three days, we got to participate in a range of activities, such as fishing (with little success), high ropes, beach activities, initiatives, abseiling, bush walking and damper making. We had delicious and healthy food like curries and wraps. We also had great fun doing the night activities such as the obstacle course and the sport games. On the last day, we also played a trivia game, which we thought was a good way to pass the time while it was raining outside. Despite the rain, we still had fun and learned how to work together as a team and build our friendships. We would like to thank all of the teachers who helped to organise the camp and looked after us while we were away. We also had great fun doing the night activities such as the obstacle course and the sport games. FROM THE PRINCIPAL

UNIFORM

At the change of season the weather can be quite

unpredictable. As always at this time I advise parents

to allow students to wear school uniform appropriate

to the conditions. It is important that students are

dressed comfortably, to allow them to do their best

work. This means that for the remainder of this term

both summer and winter uniform will be acceptable.

I do remind parents that the new school uniform will

become mandatory in 2020.

TRUCK MOVEMENT

I would like to repeat the message sent last Friday

regarding trucks in the construction site.

There will be a high volume of trucks accessing the

construction site throughout this week. They will

begin arriving on the site at 7am each morning. Extra

traffic controllers have been appointed to supervise

the trucks. However I would advise parents to

remind their children about safety when walking in

areas around the school.

YEAR 4 CAMP

Our Year 4 students returned from their overnight

camp weary but happy. Once again our students

represented in a way that brought credit to

themselves, their family and the school. Well done.

Also thank you to our teachers Ms Assad, Miss Moon,

Mrs Lyons, Mrs Sainty, Mr Le and our SLSO Mrs

Ashton who supervised the students throughout the

camp.

Movies by Moonlight

Our showcase performance entitled ‘Movies by

Moonlight’ will present two evening performances

next Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 September. Both

performances will commence at 5:30pm. Doors will

open at 5pm and we ask for the audience be seated at

least 10-15 minutes before the starting time.

Here are some last minute reminders

Wednesday 18 September

Thursday 19 September

Children under school age may sit on their

parent’s lap. You will need to purchase a ticket for

anyone, regardless of age, who wants to sit on a

seat.

For Health and Safety reasons all prams and

strollers need to remain outside the hall. An area

at the back of the COLA has been set aside for

prams and strollers.

We encourage all families to come along. Even if

your child is not part of the Guringai Performance,

bring them along to support their friends, I can

guarantee an enjoyable evening. The evening will

conclude by 7:15am.

There are to be no photographs or videoing taken

during the performances. The Thursday Evening

Performance will be professionally filmed and

DVD’s made available.

To purchase the Performance DVD, parents will

need to go online. Details of how to do this will be

available through a note being sent home

tomorrow.

SPOOKY DISCO The DJ and St Albans Church Hall have been tentatively booked for Friday 1 November (Wk 3, Term 4). However we do need some parents to step forward and coordinate this event otherwise the event will not go ahead. Past coordinators are happy to meet up and share their tips and learnings. As always, P&C will also provide support. Coordinators will be required to: create an A4 event flyer by end of term; advertise the event for first three weeks of next time; advertise for helpers; coordinate helpers, track ticket sales via Flexischools; purchase any snacks or drinks (will be reimbursed); liaise with venue provider; decorate the Hall; prepare newsletter report. Many helpers will be needed to share the load. This is a great way to meet other parents. This is an event many children look forward to every year. We will need volunteer coordinators to step forward by Friday 20 September (Wk 9, Term 3). If we don’t hear from anyone, we will sadly have to cancel the event. Please reach out to Marissa if you are interested or would like more information - [email protected]

CANTEEN Shortly, we will be putting together our Term 4 canteen roster. If you've ever thought of joining the amazing team of parent/grandparent volunteers that keep our canteen operating on Wednesdays and Fridays, why not fill in a volunteer form (a hardcopy is available at the school office) or email [email protected]. It's a fantastic way to meet other school parents and your kids will love to see you! No canteen experience necessary! Thank you! EPS Canteen Committee

STAGE 2 AND 3 DANCE GROUP VISIT TO THE POPLARS AGE CARE HOME:

On Friday the 23rd of August our Stage 2 and Stage 3 Dance groups walked up to The Poplars Age Care Home to entertain the residents with their competition routines.

Upon arrival both groups were lead to the dining hall where they were first able to see the performance area. This was a great deal smaller than what the groups had been practising with. After a few tense minutes of discussions, adjustments were made to the routines and the residents began to be seated. It was very clear that the residents were excited for the visit from Epping Public School and began eagerly waving at the students. It was heart-warming to see the residents light up as students greeted them.

Miss Ralton introduced our Stage 2 Dance Group first. This was the group’s first

performance in their costume and they looked great! Considering the adjustments that needed to be made, the group danced very well and were met with a large round of applause at the end of their performance.

Stage 3 performed after this, with residents in awe of the students' elegant costumes. They too had made adjustments based on the space and delivered a beautiful performance.

Following the performance, students and residents were able to mingle and talk with each other. Miss Ralton, Miss Nam and myself (Miss Gilbert) would agree that this moment of the day was hands down our favourite and most memorable. It was so touching to see the students really engage with the residents and both students, residents and staff couldn't contain their joy as the room filled with smiles and laughter.

After finally being able to pry the students away from their conversations and after promising to return, we said our goodbyes and were presented with a departing gift of ice-blocks. The students were very thankful for the experience and were very grateful for the opportunity to provide entertainment as well as give back to their community. The students were able to gain a sense of the lives our elderly members of society lead and reflect upon the happiness that can be generated from a simple gesture of reaching out to someone and sharing a friendly smile or conversation.

Miss Ralton, Miss Nam and myself (Miss Gilbert) are extremely proud of how both groups conducted themselves both professionally and compassionately while representing Epping Public School. We sincerely thank The Poplars Age Care Home for hosting us and hope to return soon.
