Farewell to Chef Jeff

On December 17, a large contingent of Foresters gathered at the Clubhouse to thank

departing Chef Jeff Lamrouex for his six years of outstanding service to Clubhouse

Food and Beverage and to wish him well in his future endeavors. Attendees enjoyed

a varied buffet of hors d’oeuvres specially prepared by Jeff—his departing gift to

those who have enjoyed his cooking over the years. Although Jeff is looking for a

change of pace in his activities, we were all encouraged to learn that he is not leaving

the area and that we will be seeing him on a regular basis. He was the first to register

for the 2011 season of Tuesday Night Volleyball.

Since there was no Epping Forest Board meeting in December, the approved minutes for the

November Board meeting were not available. They will be published in the January Newsletter.

The editorial staff of the Epping Forest News invites all Foresters to submit

their thoughts on issues of interest to the community to a “Letters to the

Editor” feature, beginning in 2011. Letters should be signed, but names

may be withheld for publication at the request of the writer. Submissions

can be made by email to [email protected] or sent to

Sue Oberthaler, 350 Sherwood Trail.

In the early morning hours of December 21, 2010, Foresters were treated to an event that hadn’t occurred

since 1638— a total lunar eclipse on the Winter Solstice. The eclipse lasted for 72 minutes, from 2:40 to

3:52 A.M. Luckily, it was a clear, cold night, so all you had to do was wake up, bundle up and look up into

the sky toward the west.

When the moon was entirely covered by the earth’s shadow, it took on a dark reddish glow. Scientists say

that is caused by a smog of sulfuric acid in the upper atmosphere that is created when the sulfur dioxide from

volcanoes combines with water vapor.

If you slept through this eclipse, you may get another chance for a good view of total lunar eclipse on

January 21, 2019.
