FROM THE PRINCIPAL GOODBYE TO DEPARTING STAFF MEMBERS At our Presentation Day and in previous newsletters I have indicated that we will be losing some of our most respected staff members. It is with a sad heart that we farewell Mrs Jones from the office, Mrs Citer, Mr Sherley and Mrs Van Amersfort. Mrs Jones will be moving on to a new school and I thank her very much for the work she has done. With the sudden departure of Mrs Ferral-Smith, Mrs Jones was cast into the Office Manager position without warning or training. In difficult circumstances Mrs Jones carried the load and ensured the school office continued to operate smoothly. Mrs Citer has been with the school for 12 years and during that time welcomed her young daughter into the world. Mrs Citer has taken a move to be closer to her family and she will be missed. Her warmth to our youngest students ensured parents of those young students were always at ease and knew their children were getting the best start possible on their educational journey. Mr Sherley has been with us for many years also and moves on to take up the position of Assistant Principal at Artarmon PS. The whole community will miss his hard work across many areas of the school. I know the students will miss his sense of humour and rapport that he was able to build with all students in his class. The parents will miss his openness and approachability, always ready to sit down to discuss how they could help their children. Mrs Van Amersfort has only been with us for two and a half years, but her promotion to Assistant Principal at Mowbray PS is testimony to the work she has put in at Epping PS. Among her many groups that she took her love of the Arts was evidenced through her work with our Choral and Dance Groups. Her caring and positive nature with our students was appreciated by students and parents alike. You are all going to be greatly missed by the school community and each of your new schools will soon learn how lucky they are having you go there. I hope your time at Epping has left you with many pleasant memories and friendships. We look forward to hearing of your progress at your new

schools and on behalf of the whole school community wish you and your family all the best for the future.

MAJOR CONCRETE POUR Tomorrow, Tuesday 11 December there will be a major concrete pour for the foundation of the new construction. This will mean that cement trucks will be accessing the site all day. At times they will be lined up to enter the site. The company will be organising traffic controllers to be on duty the entire time. However as a community service I would be suggesting you try to avoid the area if at all possible.

BYOD SURVEY Today we will be making available the BYOD Survey for the parents of our Year 5 and Year 6 students. The survey will be available on the link below or it will be sent via the School App to all of our Year 5 and Year 6 parents. The information collected from the survey will be used to refine and improve our BYOD Program. https://goo.gl/forms/7b8RmTECb2fMDvKm1

FINAL FULL NEWSLETTER Whilst we will send out a shortened version of our newsletter next week, this will be the final full version for 2018. I would just like to remind parents of some changes that will be introduced in 2019.

1. Next year we will be going cashless and ask that all payments be made online. We will accept cheques. Please contact the School Office next year if there are any problems.

2. Early Term 1 we will be moving to an electronic delivery of our newsletter. We will be sending the newsletter home via the school app or making it available on the website. The first few newsletters will be sent home as paper copies and will include a form to complete if you still want to pick up a hard version from the school office. However from Term 3 the newsletter will only be available via the school app or on the website.

Business Arising: PRESIDENT’S REPORT I would like to thank all the members of the P & C Committee. 2018 has been a very busy and challenging year and with the major construction scheduled for the whole of 2019, I anticipate the 2019 will be even more challenging. The role of the P & C is to work with the school to provide extra services and activities for our children. The school relies on the support of parents to ensure that our children continue to be provided with:

• The Canteen, • The Uniform shop, • The School bands, • Social activities and events, • Fundraising to provide additional resources, • Language classes

Each year we say farewell to parents who have been volunteering for many years. As their children move onto Secondary school so do these parents. Their departure leaves a huge gap that needs to be filled and without the assistance of these wonderful parents EPS would need to cut back or cancel some of these services and activities. A warm thank you to the following parents:

Laura Wilden - Grants Deborah Walker - Grants

If you are able to assist either throughout the year or for an event, please contact the P & C via email on [email protected] or via the school’s office. Achievements 2018 has been a very busy year for the P & C and I am very proud of not only our current committee members but committee members of previous years who have all contributed to some major achievements that came to realisation in 2018.

1. The multi-purpose sports field was finally constructed. Some years back the lack of suitable play and running areas was identified as one area that EPS was lacking. Our children now have a safe, level sports ground to play and enjoy. This project has taken many years of fundraising and managing by the P & C Committee and I’m very proud that we could deliver this project in 2018. See further acknowledgements below.

2. We have also updated the schools’ uniform. After consultation with the EPS community it was agreed that we would update the uniform to better reflect current styles. The uniforms

are made of modern fabrics to ensure that our children are more comfortable throughout the day.

3. The canteen has now gone cashless and parents have easy, online access to order ensure that their child’s lunch orders are lodged.

4. We now have close to 100 children playing in one our five bands. This requires additional management and financial support as instruments require repairs or replacing.

5. There have been great turnouts to the social events like the welcome BBQ, morning teas, information nights, Mother’s Day stall, Father’s Day BBQ, Spooky Disco and the Year 6 Farewell.

As you can see our parents have been very busy in 2018! Acknowledgements In delivering the multi-purpose sports field and in addition to its own contribution, the P & C gratefully acknowledges the generous financial support of the following grant programs and organisations: • Australian Government Stronger Communities

Programme • NSW Government Community Building

Partnership Program • Parramatta City Council (via NSW Government

Stronger Communities Fund) • Epping Public School (NSW Department of

Education) • Epping Before and After School Care Association Fundraising You may have guessed that all these activities require both time and money. I understand that life is busy and with most parents working it is difficult to find spare time to assist in providing these benefits to your children. If you are time-poor and would like to contribute you can make a donation to the P & C at any time to support the activities, we provide our children. Donations of $2.00 or more made to the P & C Building are Tax Deductible!

Once again, I’d like to thank the small but hardworking group of parents who have made 2018 such a wonderful year.

I wish you all a great end to 2018 and a safe return to the 2019 school year. Happy Holidays
