FROM THE PRINCIPAL STAFF UPDATE With our school growing and the Department undergoing a restructure my staffing updates are becoming a regular item. Mrs Ferral-Smith our School Office Manager has been seconded to district office, until the end of term. Mrs Jones has now assumed the role of School Administration Manager. We are presently trying to find someone to fill Mrs Jones’ role. I will be taking Long Service Leave from Tuesday 12 June. During this time Mrs Graham will be relieving Principal. Mr Morgan, a regular casual teacher at our school, will teach 4G. YEAR 6 FAREWELL After consultation with the organisers of last year’s Year 6 Farewell, a decision has been taken to move the function to an external venue. Last year it was a lot of work to fit everyone in. This year with an extra 25+ students we believe it would be unmanageable. The hall has been a wonderful resource for our Year 6 Farewell but with growing numbers the only way to keep it there would have been to remove Year 5 from the dining part of the Farewell. We believe that is not really an option. We are presently in negotiations with alternative venues. This may necessitate a change of dates. We hope to inform you of a decision as to venue and date in next week’s newsletter. NEW REPORTS Teachers are presently in the process of writing the Semester 2 Reports. These of course are the newly designed reports based on feedback from the School Community and within the guidelines set down by the department. We are hoping that everyone will find them informative and useful to support their child in their future academic direction. Our Strategic Direction 3 Committee is finalising an information session for Tuesday June 19 at 3:30pm. It will be held in the CAPA room. During this session staff members will explain the new sections of the report and how to interpret the information. NEW SCHOOL BUILDING Our new school building is due to commence in Term 3 with the construction company expected to move onsite during the next school holidays. I

am already meeting with staff to plan for the construction period. It is very apparent with growing numbers and half the school becoming a construction zone, space will become a very big issue. From Term 3 parents will be required to bring their child to school, but will then have to leave the school grounds. There is just not enough space to have all children plus 40 or 50 parents on the playground of a morning. Our Strategic Direction 3 will publish a monthly update from June, outlining the progress of works and changes to school routines because of those works. CASHLESS IN 2019 Once again a reminder that our preferred option for payment to the school is online or cheque. During 2018 we will accept cash but from 2019 we will be a cashless school. Please ensure you have processes in place for this change in 2019. By John Ford

PEER SUPPORT Session 4 – This week in Peer Support, children discuss the different ways of responding to difficult situations and learn that they can cope by having a go, being positive and not giving up. We have called this being resilient. Encourage your child to discuss their understanding of resilience and the need to practise resilience whenever they get the opportunity.

PSSA SOCCER The A team started off with a strong start. But eventually Pennant Hills started dominating and scored 3 goals. James was a very good defender but the man of the match went to Tommy for his excellent man-marking. The end score was 4-0. By Lucas 6E The B team played a very good offensive and defensive match and the score was 0-0. Pennant Hills were a very good team and nearly scored. They got so close that they even hit the cross bar. The man of the match went to Matthew Zheng for his excellent midfield work. By Kotaro 6K

Although we lost 22-2, we still have confidence for our next game. The player of the match was Catherine, who worked hard in Wing Attack to win the ball. By Grace

SRC FUNDRAISER At the end of last term, a severe bushfire destroyed over 70 homes and a school in the town of Tathra. To show our support, the SRC will be holding a Movie Lunch to raise money for the Tathra Public School Bushfire Appeal. This week students from Years 3-6 are invited to watch 'Ferdinand' (G rated) on Tuesday 29 May and Thursday 31 May. We ask that students bring a gold coin donation on the Tuesday to watch the movie across both days. The SRC look forward to seeing you there!

ZONE CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL Last Wednesday 23 May, 38 students from Epping Public School went to our annual Zone Cross Country Carnival.
