PRESENTATION DAY Our school year culminates with our Presentation Day. On this day we recognise students’ achievements and service to our school. A lot of planning and work goes into the organisation of this day to ensure that it is special for our students who receive recognition on this day. As I have indicated, our day is this Friday and all parents, relatives and friends are welcome to attend. The K-2 Presentation Day commences at 9:45am and the Year 3 – Year 6 Presentation Day will commence at approximately 11:15am. Both assemblies will be in our school hall. To assist with the success of the day we ask that you adhere to the following requests:

No strollers or prams inside the hall. They can be left outside. Bringing them into the hall blocks exits in case of an emergency.

Do not sit in any seats with a reserved sign on them. These are for official guests.

If someone coming is in a wheelchair please let the office know so we can make arrangements.

You may take photos of your child receiving an award; however we will not slow down proceedings. All prize winners will have their photos taken (provided they have completed the permission note sent at the beginning of the year) and photos will be put up on our website.

All phones should be switched off or to silent.

Once the assembly commences noise should be kept to a minimum.

We look forward to your support in these matters.

NAME CHANGE Recently one of our staff members was married and by all accounts the day was a wonderful occasion. We wish Miss Gordon and her husband a wonderful future together. Miss Gordon will be known as Mrs

Buttrey. However because we are so close to the end of the year her class will remain 2G.

THANK YOU MORNING TEA Our Thank You to our parents Morning Tea will be held on Monday 10 December. Invites have been sent out but from past experience some do not reach their destination or may have been forgotten to be sent. Please, if you have supported the school in any way be it through the fete, the classroom, the canteen or fundraising nights, then we want you there. Complete the note in the newsletter to help us with organisation. I look forward to seeing you at the function which is to be held in the hall at 11am.

REPORTS The second semester reports will be sent home next week. They will be sent home with the child. If you do not receive one please contact the school.

LEADERS ELECTION The process for electing our leaders for 2013 is well under way. The next step is that Mr Ford and Mrs Graham are holding interviews for the Captains and Vice Captains for 2013. We would like to congratulate the following students who were voted in by the school community to be next year’s leaders.

YEAR 6 FAREWELL Our final big event for the year is our Year 6 Farewell on Friday 14 December. This involves all of our Stage 3 students and will be held in the school hall. It is a way to pay tribute to the current Year 6 and to celebrate their time at Epping Public School.

KC WINS A PRIZE Congratulations to class KC who won a prize of $150 from the Healthy Kids Association for their Olympic Ring display. The rings were made using fruit and veg the children brought from home. We also used the broad beans grown in our school garden. We plan to put the money towards maintaining our vegetable and fruit patch. Well done! Mrs Citer

MULTICULTURAL PERSPECTIVES PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION On Wednesday, 21 November 2012, Kayley in 6P represented our school in the State Final of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition at the ABC Centre in the city. This competition aims to heighten awareness of multicultural issues among primary school students while developing their interest and skills in public speaking, as well as their confidence. This year a record 2 136 children entered and Kayley was one of 12 finalists from the ten education regions of NSW. Kayley firstly presented a four minute prepared speech titled “Racism, it’s just not funny”. She then had five minutes to prepare a two minute speech on the unseen topic “Presenting the Show”. Kayley was exceptional. She spoke confidently and enthusiastically, captivating the audience of 400 people. The adjudicators stated that this year all speakers were of the highest calibre and their task was an extremely difficult one. The competition was won by Lily from Ferncourt Public School in Marrickville.

Kayley’s effort in this competition is to be highly commended. Well done!

SCHOOL TRAVEL PASSES A few reminders for students who travel by bus or train using a school travel pass.

All students moving from Year 2 into Year 3 for 2013 will need to complete a new blue application form, as they must now meet eligibility criteria.

Any student who has changed address or will be changing address before returning to school in 2013 will need to complete a new blue application form showing the new address for the pass to be processed.

All students moving from Year 6 into Year 7 for 2013 will need to complete a new blue application form – this will be arranged with their high school at their Orientation Day.

Please visit the school office for your new blue application forms.

LIBRARY MATTERS By now all children should have returned their library books for the year. Tomorrow I will start to distribute reminders about overdue books. I don’t want to impose upon you but could you see to it that outstanding items are returned promptly. Most of the students at Epping Public School are very

responsible when it comes to Library books, so thank you mums and dads for helping your children with their obligations. Certificates for The Premier’s Reading Challenge were supposed to arrive in schools at the end of November. As yet I have not received them. On 30 November, the Sun-Herald published the Honour Roll online, instead of in newspaper format. A special supplement was published in the newspaper on 2nd December. Once I have received the certificates I will complete the details and, hopefully, distribute them this year. My other option is to hold them over till 2013 and present them at our first Assembly next year. Mrs Lyn Campbell Teacher-Librarian

NEWS FROM THE P&C P&C CALENDAR - TERM 4

Presentation Day – 7 December

Staff Thank You Lunch – 12 December

P&C President Role Still Vacant! The P&C needs a President. The role is not onerous so please contact myself or the school if you would be interested in taking on this role. The P&C President chairs the monthly P&C meetings, liaises with the school as needed and provides leadership and direction to the P&C. As President you are well supported by your executive consisting of Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. It is critical that these roles be filled to enable the P&C so continue doing all the great things we do. Please contact me on 0413 884 251 or [email protected] if you would like to take on one of these roles. – Josh Pitcher, outgoing P&C president

Fun Things Planned for “FUNDRAISING 2013” We are very pleased to confirm that we now have two Fundraising Co-ordinators for 2013. This will mean all of our children will continue to enjoy Discos, Movie Nights etc. A HUGE thank-you to two generous mums, Dishni Yasamana and Hiranya Perera who have volunteered to take on the roles. The events simply wouldn’t happen otherwise. Hiranya’s daughter will be in Year 6 next year so she will need to be replaced at the end of the year. If you are considering joining the Fundraising team, why not join Dishni and Hiranya next year? That way it will be a seamless transition into 2014. It’s very manageable and with three co-ordinators, even easier. Whether you work, study or are a stay-at-home parent, it can be done. Anyone with enthusiasm and commitment will be able to perform the role with great effect. If you’re interested please contact Marissa (0408 088 449) or Jacqui (0409 325 424).

French Class – News

Have you considered taking French classes at Epping Public School? French classes are available for students in Years 3 – 6 on Wednesday and Friday mornings before school, and are offered at the discounted rate of $6.50 per lesson thanks to support from the school P & C. The French classes run for half an hour and are a fun introduction to learning a language. Learn French songs, play French games and have Petit Dejeuner (French breakfast of croissants and hot chocolate). Students will also learn essential French vocabulary and basic grammar. Our French teacher, Mademoiselle Claire Rey, is bilingual. To speak another language with a correct accent is much easier if children are introduced to the sounds of that language at a young age. Give your children a head start for high school by giving them an introduction to French. Please contact Alison Fraser on 9876 3278 or 0402713715 or by email at [email protected] if your child is interested in joining.
