ITQ in Accessible IT PracticeWhy?

• Many staff struggle to meet the diverse needs of their learners. Teaching may take place in so many different locations and venues with different IT setups.

• This new ITQ for Accessible IT Practice focuses on staff being better equipped to meet learner needs by:

– Making better use of existing resources and materials available from JISC Techdis.

– Exploring how to use the free, portable applications to support learner needs.

– Having a better understanding of how to develop engaging, accessible learning resources.

ITQ in Accessible IT Practice• Help organisations deliver more for less.• Help staff recognise how learners benefit from

technology.• Increase the skills of front line staff in inclusive

teaching and learning.• The programme, which can also lead to City &

Guilds ITQ accreditation, provides an ideal platform for raising awareness of inclusion issues at the same time as developing the skills to create more inclusive teaching and learning environments http://jisctechdis.ac.uk/ITQ.

Merely avoiding discrimination is no longer an option. The emphasis of this document is on the potential impact of legislation on accessibility and inclusion and how there are real benefits to be gained in adopting inclusive institutional practice.

You do the Maths! http://www.jisctechdis.ac.uk/sed• Where tutors put lecture notes online, the need for note takers for

disabled students is reduced.• Where free and open source assistive technologies are used, more

learners can have greater support with no licence cost• Where libraries subscribe to accessible eBook platforms the cost of
