I’ve had the pleasure of serving as the Treasurer of Heritage for a second year. While every resident would agree that the budget is important, without active involvement, it isn’t always easy to understand. I want to take a moment to give you a brief list of what the budget committee, Board, management, and staff is doing to protect your PID and HOA dollars.
One of the items that I am most proud of, is the minimal amount of past due accounts. In comparison to other HOA’s and communities, we have a relatively low amount of delinquencies. This is an area upon which both our management and budget committee have worked to consistently improve through the active promotion of automatic payment enrollment, improved communication with account holders, and structured payment plans.
This year, we have also worked towards saving funds on our long-
term contracts. By negotiating longer, rate-locked terms and asking for discounts for these longer terms, we saved budget dollars on both the initial discount and the inflation that would have otherwise occurred every time the contract was up for renewal. Similarly, we negotiated for a short-term landscape contract extension to better align with the budget cycle and ensure that we will not be reviewing contract bids during the middle of the landscape season.
Another area where we saved budget dollars has been through working with the City on improvement items in the parks and playgrounds. This has saved us substantial dollars by not having to have entire new surveys drawn for a retention wall and shade structures, which can be costly and time consuming. And, I am sure you will all enjoy the added shade during the upcoming summers.
Lastly, the budget committee and board have approved the purchase of short-term CD’s to improve the returns on some of our reserves. Currently, the management, staff, and I are working on preparing a long-term maintenance plan to improve our budget forecasting for larger and more costly repairs both in the PID and the HOA. Moving forward, the budget committee and the Board will have a more accurate idea of future capital improvements, reserve balances, and PID rates.
If you have more interest in some of these or other items related to the budget, please let us know or drop by the next budget or Board meeting. As always, it is a pleasure to serve such a wonderful neighborhood.

Registration and Swimsuit Try-On Day: Wednesday May 10, 2017
Hurricane & Future Hurricane Parents,The Heritage Hurricanes are suiting up for their 13th swimming season. Our neighborhood swim team allows our youth to participate in a competitive amateur summer swim program utilizing Heritage’s amazing amenities. To participate, athletes must be members of the Heritage HOA, be between the ages of 5 and 18, and be able to swim the entire length of the Heritage Lap Pool using any stroke.
Registration for the Heritage Hurricane Swim Team and swimsuit try-on will be Wednesday, May 10th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Heritage Clubhouse. To keep registration manageable we are asking that last names beginning with A-K come between 5:00pm-6:00pm and last names L-Z come between 6:00pm-7:00pm. We also ask that your swimmer wear an old suit under their clothes so they can quickly try on the new suit. Otherwise, the wait for the bathroom to try on suits can get long!
The cost for registration is $145/swimmer.
This includes all practices, ribbons, circuit meets, the Championship Meet, All-Star Meet for those who qualify, t-shirt and end of year party. The suit will be $39 for girls and $28 for boys. Team swim caps, which are required for meets, are available for purchase, as well as past season t-shirts for a discount price.
Please pre-register ahead of time to avoid waiting! Here is the link. HTTP://www.hurricaneswim.com
If you can’t make it on May 10th, you may register at any time online and the team swimsuit will be available at the D&J Sports Store in the Keller Natatorium after May 14th.Evaluations for all new swimmers and any returning swimmer that want to try-out for the Advanced group will be held on May 16th and 18th from 6:00pm to 6:30pm at the Heritage lap pool. *Advanced group requires proficiency in all 4 competitive strokes.
You may pick either morning or evening practices. From there coaches will determine which specific practice session best fits your swimmers’ needs. Morning practices will
be 7:45am-8:45am or 8:45am-9:45am and evening practices will be 5:00pm-6:00pm or 6:00pm-7:00pm. The 1st practices will be for the older and more Advanced swimmers while the 2nd practices will be for the Intermediates and Beginners. If you have more than one swimmer, and they are at different skill levels, there is a chance they will be put at different practice times.
It is important that your swimmer attend the practice targeting their skill level so that they, and the other swimmers the coaches are responsible for, get the best instruction for their ability level.
More team information, including a full practice and meet schedule, is posted on the team website: http://www.hurricaneswim.comGo Hurricanes!

GARBAGE CAN STORAGEGarbage can storage is always a hot top around the community. Trash pick-up is every Monday and all cans should be put away by that evening. All items left behind by regular garbage pick-up cannot be left on the curb waiting for the next scheduled garbage day or bulk trash week.
Please refer Section 1.7 (h) No Lot or other area on the Property shall be used as a dumping ground for rubbish or a site for the accumulation of unsightly materials of any kind, including broken or rusty equipment, disassembled or inoperative cars and discarded appliances and furniture. No lawn or garden equipment, toys, bicycles, furniture or household items may be stored on porches or in driveways visible from the street. Trash, garbage or other waste shall not be kept except in sanitary containers and shall not be placed on the curb or alley more than 18 hours prior to its scheduled collection day. All equipment for the storage or other disposal of such material shall be kept in clean and sanitary condition. All containers and other facilities for disposal must be located and screened in a manner approved in writing by the Committee.
Store all garbage cans, debris and miscellaneous items out of street view by placing them behind the fence, gate or in the garage. Visit the City of Fort Worth website for more information: http://fortworthtexas.gov/solidwaste/garbage.
