Gallery Drip Coffee Hua HinSlow Life, Slow Drip, Slow Sip
Since the store in the Bangkok Art and Culture
Centre became a firm favourite of coffee aficionados,
Gallery Drip Coffee has now expanded beyond Bangkok
to give local drip coffee devotees and tourists visiting
Hua Hin the chance to slowly sip the magnificent brew
amidst the tranquil surroundings of this peaceful town.
Khun Tum was one of the top baristas at the Gallery
Drip Coffee in Bangkok before settling down in Hua Hin and
opening his own shop. As a sister branch of the original
Bangkok location, the Hua Hin shop has kept to the same
Gallery Drip Coffee name and retained the unique identity
that has borne its name.
The charm and liveliness of the store’s drip coffee
opens up customers to new coffee experiences. The coffee
beans used are single origin, from only a single plantation,
and originate from many exotic countries, such as Kenya
and Ethiopia, depending on what great coffee beans are
available to the shop at the time. Because of this, coffee
lovers will be able to discover new flavours of coffee on
every visit.
The favourite drip coffee of the owner (and resident
Barista) is made using beans from Ethiopia called
Yirgacheffe . Yirgacheffe is the name of the area from which
the beans come from. The coffee’s character has a fruity
aroma, with a berry-like taste. The rarity and uniqueness
of the coffee beans mean that anyone who ventures to the
store definitely must give this coffee a try.
Those who aren’t into drinking strong, heavy coffee
may prefer to imbibe some coffee jelly, the store’s lighter
signature which has become renowned through tremendous
word of mouth. Coffee jelly is made by gelling drip coffee
and filling up the remainder of the glass with milky foam.
It is drunk by poking around in the coffee jelly with a straw
and drawing up the coffee flavour perfectly combined with
the smooth sweet taste of the milk. Those who prefer their
drinks even sweeter can add more syrup. Extra milk is also
provided by the store.
The coffee store is also a small gallery providing
a space for art lovers to appreciate regular painting and
photographic exhibitions by artists in Hua Hin and nearby
areas.
Sipping drip coffee whilst gazing at artworks in the
atmosphere of a seaside town - not to be missed moments
like these are rare indeed and should be cherished at
every opportunity.

LolayThaweesak SrithongdeeLife in a small town by the sea
Lolay – Thaweesak Srithongdee is
an artist whose lines have a unique
characteristic with a wife, Pare Nadda,
who is an artist in her own right. They
both decided to make a move to Hua Hin
since the birth of their son, giving the
youngster, named Roman, the opportunity
to live in a house close by the sea, with
the mountains also moments away.
The routine in this household is
never a race against the clock. In the
morning, Lolay takes his son on a jaunt
by car and stops by to enjoy a coffee at
one of his favourite haunts. He gets home
to do a bit of work, reads for a while or
plays with his son, whilst his wife pre-
pares food for their meal. Living in Hua
Hin, the family never lets the restrictions
of time affect the way they lead their lives.
“I’ve always wanted to leave
Bangkok because it is so congested.
I wished to work in a wide-open space
and have more time. Once my son was
born, I thought it was the right time to
make a change to our way of life and to
work fully on what I love”
Even though he made the move
from a big city to a small town, he has been
able to keep up with the level of work he has
always done. In actual fact, Hua Hin has
given him the opportunity to think more,
be more creative and live even more.
Lolay is an artist well versed in
various contemporary art, whether it
is painting, sculpture, illustration in
magazines or writing (a novel called
“Man on Fish”, which he obviously

with is “Dollar”, a giant white fiberglass
robot that stood as a landmark in front
of the Bangkok Art and Culture
Centre for a very long time. Lolay also
continually produces art pieces and
series of works for solo and group
exhibitions, both locally and overseas.
He has already shown his work in
Japan, France, England, The Netherlands
and Germany amongst many others.
He is also a musician in an electronic
punk band called Happy Band.
In Hua Hin, Lolay’s style trans-
formed into the graffiti that can be found
at a number of locations throughout the
town including Gallery Drip Coffee and
Velo Café, where Lolay, Pare and Roman
like to hangout, as well as on the walls of
Hua Hin’s renowned Cicada Market. His
work is instantly recognisable at private
residences in Hua Hin and government
facilities that aren’t open to the public
but can still be seen on social media.
The creator of the art doesn’t
expect his two hands alone will transform
Hua Hin into an art and culture centre but,
nevertheless, Lolay’s graffiti in the cafés
and on the walls has made Hua Hin all
the more colourful.

For horse-riding enthusiasts this place is absolutely
heaven. Even people who have never ridden a horse in
their lives will create great new memories here.
Farm Mor Por is nestled amidst the mountains
and nature of Khao Yai, and is the creation of Associate
Professor Dr. Nopadol Saropala MD, or Mor Por as he is
more commonly known. Mor Por loves riding horses and
has an unparalleled knowledge about them. That’s why he
decided to open the horse farm as a tourism destination
with so many rare species of horse you will have a hard time
finding in Thailand. These include both the world’s largest
and smallest species of horse, as well as 5 of the world’s
most beautiful species namely Arabian, Andalusian,
Friesian, Gypsy Vanner and Rocky Mountain. Altogether
there are over 70 horses for you to discover.
When the weather is at its best, Mor Por invites us to
get on horseback and go riding in tandem to experience
Trail Riding over the course of thirty minutes to an hour,
during which time we get to appreciate the joys of horse
riding fully. You’ll get the chance to enjoy trotting and
galloping along the grass and through tree tunnels, as well
as leaping over natural obstacles that test the endurance
and ability of both horse and rider.
Those who have never ridden a horse before need
not be afraid as the farm has expert staff who can teach
you everything from the basics, knowledge about horses,
how to understand and behave around horses so they
trust you, and techniques on how to control horses that
are even easy enough for children to learn.
Farm Mor Por has other great activities as well,
whether you try collecting eggs from the free range
chickens, feeding baby goats or even have a go at bathing
and grooming a horse to give you the experience of being
a horse owner.

After surgery to cure her heavy
illness Tongkarn, an illustrator who usually
works in watercolours, settled down in Pak
Chong where she has now been living
for nearly 6 years in a compact house.
There is space around the house for her
to walk in, fresh air whatever the season,
organic vegetables to eat and it was
here in Pak Chong that she discovered
colour from leaves and flowers could be
transformed to colour her paintings. Today
we have come to know her as Tongkarn,
the natural illustrator.
Butterfly Pea vine that her mother
planted bloomed with beautiful flowers,
which have been picked to make perfectly
sippable Butterfly Pea tea. That’s when
she noticed the colour that seeped into
the water, giving her the idea to grind
the Butterfly Pea flowers for its colour and
daubing it on her paintings. Since then,
she has enjoyed experimenting with
various colours from flowers and leaves:
blue from Butterfly Pea flowers, orange-
tinged red from bell peppers, yellow
from Night-Blooming Jasmine, pink from
Bougainvillea and green from leaves.
The paintings created in the
natural style have appeared in magazines,
websites and recently in the Organic 101
book that deals with the real organic way
of life experiences of the illustrator.
In Pak Chong she is not just a painter
but also the creator, along with her friends,
of the Niche Niche Market that has people
from Bangkok flocking to in Pak Chong.
Niche Niche is a small market that sells
handmade items, organic produce and
provides beautiful music to listen to that is
held at the beginning and end of each year.
Once she fully immersed herself in
the organic way of life, Tongkarn started
a workshop in Pak Chong on all things
organic (which followed on from the Organic
101 book). Beginning with a workshop on
how to make organic bread yourself, the
class received overwhelming support.

an organic town”
Workshops on the organic way
of life may lead to the development of
the area into the organic paradise of her
dreams one of these days.
For Tongkarn, Pak Chong contributes
to every aspect of her life. The area around
her house provides plants and flowers for
her paintings; 400-500 metres above sea
level, Pak Chong has a great environment
for her vegetables to grow for consumption;
plus the air is pure here, summers are not
too hot with breezy winds, there’s never
any traffic and, if there’s ever any call to
go into town, Bangkok isn’t too far away.
A day of life in Pak Chong is so
simple. You wake up in the morning and
make your own breakfast with organic
ingredients. After you’re full, you can go
out and pick flowers to make paint until
lunchtime whilst mother makes lunch.
Then you get to sit and do the work you
love throughout the afternoon. This takes
you on until dinnertime when you get full
once again.
