    2.1 Unpacking/delivery 2. Installation

    Step 1

    Tranport

    The valve is only to be transported using appropriate loading

    m eans:

    D o not drop the valve and handle it carefully. U npack it and

    then read this m anual.

    The valve is packed in a recyclable cardboard box.

    Step 2

    Delivery and performance

    CAUTION! Alfa Laval cannot be held responsible for incorrect unpacking.

    C heck the goods for com pletenes and dam age im m ediately upon receipt.

    The scope of delivery is apparent from the dispatch docum ents and the

    design from the order num ber.

    Step 3

    Storage

    Store the valve d ry in its original packaging. Avoid U V rays and direct sun

    irradiation. The m axim um storage tem perature is +40C .

    2.2 General installation2. Installation

    Ensure the suitability of the valve for each respective use.

    The valve must be approp riate for the piping system operating conditions (med ium, medium concent ration, temperature and

    pressure) and the prevailing ambient cond itions.

    Check the technical details of the valve and the materials.

    Step 2

    Installation of valve body:

    - Ensure that the plant is depressurized and com pletely

    drained.

    - D econtam inate the plant, w ash it out and ventilate it.

    Pay special attention to:

    - Vibrations

    - Therm al expansion of the tubes

    - Excessive w elding

    - O verloading of pipelines

    Step 3

    Installation of Aseptic D iaphragm Valve differs dependent on

    the body:

    Threaded connections/clamp connection:

    Install the valve in the state it is delivered in:

    - Screw the threaded connections into the piping

    according to valid norm s.

    - W hen assem bling the clam p connectors, insert the

    respective gasket betw een body and piping connector

    and join the w ith a clam p.

    D ependent on the inteded use and the threaded connection

    type, use appropriate seal m aterial (seal m aterial and clam p

    are not included in the delivery!).

    Butt weld spigots:

    NOTE!D isassem ble the actuator before w elding the body into

    the pipeline. The disassem bly is described in chapter 4.

    O rbital w elding process is recom m ended.

    2. Installation2.2 General installation

    Step 4

    Connecting the control air

    Assemble the control air lines tension-free and without any bends or knots!

    Thread size of the control air connections: G 1/4 for actuator (diaphragm size 8-100)

    For air control connections, connect the control air line to the follow ing connectors:

    Control funct ion 1 (NC):C onnect the control air line to the low er connector.

    Control funct ion 2 (NO): C onnect the control air line to the upper connector.

    Control function 3 (A/A): C onnection of the control air line to the

    - upper connector: to close

    - low er connector: to open

    U se appropriate connectors acording to the application.

    3.1 Operation3. O peration

    Step 1

    -Always read the technical data thoroughly (see chapter 5).

    -Always release com pressed air after use.

    B efore operating the valve, check the tightness of the m edia

    connections!

    CAUTION!

    Take precautionary m easures to avoid exceeding the m axim um

    perm issible pressure from w ater ham m er pressure peaks.

    Step 2

    Delivery condition of the valve:

    - W ith control function 1 (N C ): Closed

    - W ith control function 2 (N O ): O pen

    - W ith control function 3 (double acting): U nd e ned

    C heck valve tightness and function before using caustic process m edia!

    NOTE!W hen cleaning the pipe system using causitc the plant operator is responsible for selecting the caustic m edia and

    carrying out the process.

    Step 3

    Service and maintenance notes

    Seals and diaphragm s sink in the course of tim e. B efore

    operating the valve, check the tightness of the bolts and nuts

    on the body and re-tighten if necessary (follow ing operation

    or, w ith C IP system s, at the latest after the rst sterilisation

    process).

    CAUTION!

    An even compression of the diaphragm according to the

    general information for elastomers (visual checking) and

    expert tightening of the connecting bolts.

    3. O peration3.2 Troubleshooting

    If the plant is new or after repairs, wash out the piping system with the valve fully open in order to remove any impurities.

    NOTE!S tudy the m aintenance instructions carefully before replacing w orn parts, see section 4.1.

    3.3 Recommended cleaning3. O peration

    Study the instructions carefully and pay special attention to the warnings!

    NaOH = Caustic Soda.

    HNO3= Nitric acid.

    Step 1

    Always handle lye and acid w ith great care.

    Step 2

    Never touch the valve or the pipelines w hen sterilizing.

    Step 3

    C lean the plug and the seats correctly.

    Pay special attention to the warnings!

    Step 4

    Examples of cleaning agents:

    U se clean w ater, free from chlorides.

    3.3 Recommended cleaning 3. O peration

    Step 5

    1. Avoid excessive concentration of the cleaning agent Dose gradually!

    2. Adjust the cleaning ow to the process

    Milk sterilization/viscous liquids

    Increase the cleaning flow!

    3. Always rinse w ell w ith clean w ater after the cleaning.

    The cleaning agents m ust be stored/disposed of in

    accordance w ith current rules/directives.

    Step 4

    - If carrying out servicing w ork, check the corresponding item s for corrosion, w ear and tear and replace them as

    necessary (only use genuine A lfa Laval spare parts).

    - The diaphragm is an elastom er w ith speci c settling behaviour. For this reason it is necessary for the user

    to check tightness and correct position of the d iaphragm regularly and, if necessary, to re-tighten the bolting

    betw een valve body and actuator.

    - W hen repairing and replacing parts, only use appropriate tools and genuine Alfa Laval spare parts, even in

    em ergencies. O bserve the m ounting instructions for spare parts.

    NOTE!

    - W hen ordering spare parts, alw ays state the com plete order num ber of the valve.

    - M ount the spare parts according to the enclosed operating or assem bly instructions.

    4.1 General maintenance4. M aintenance

    Maintain the valve regularly.

    Study the instructions carefully and pay special attention to warnings!

    Always keep spare rubber seals and lip seals in stock.

    Step 1

    - Always read the technical data thoroughly

    (see chapter 5).

    - Always release the com pressed air after use.

    CAUTION!

    All scrap m ust be stored/disposed of in accordance w ith

    current rules/directives.

    Step 2

    - Never service the valve w hen it is hot.

    4. M aintenance4.1 Disassembly/assembly of actuator

    Step 1

    WARNING!Risk of death or injury.

    O nly w ork on a cooled dow n, depressurised plant.

    Pay special attention to warnings!

    Step 2

    Disassembling the actuator

    - M ove the actuator to the O pen position

    - R em ove the actuator com plete w ith the diaphragm from

    the valve body

    - M ove the actuator to the C losed position (N C valves only)

    - C lean all parts from product rem ains and contam ination.

    D o not scratch or dam age parts during cleaning!

    - C heck all parts for potential dam age

    - Exchange dam aged parts (only use genuine Alfa Laval

    spare parts)

    Step 3

    Assembling the actuator

    - M ove the actuator to the O pen position

    - Position the actuator w ith the m ounted diaphragm on

    the valve body aligning the diaphragm w eir and valve

    body w eir

    - Insert and tighten the fastening bolts by hand

    - M ove the actuator to the C losed position

    - Fully tighten the bolts and nuts diagonally

    - Ensure that the diaphragm is com pressed evenly

    (approx. 10-15% , visible by an even bulge to the outside)

    - C heck tightness of com pletely assem bled valve

    Study the instruct ions carefully.

    Handle scrap correctly.

    Seat size 8 and 10

    4. M aintenance

    Prerequisite for mounting the d iaphragm on the actuator

    M ount the correct diaphragm that suits the valve (diaphragm m ust be suitable for product, concentration, tem perature and

    pressure).

    NOTE!R em ove the actuator before m ounting the concave/convex diaphragm as described in section 4.1.

    Step 2

    Disassembly of EPDM, EPDM/PTFE bonded and

    PTFE/EPRM 2-piece diaphragms.

    Before disassembling the diaphragms, please

    disassemble the actuator as described previously.

    - U nscrew the diaphragm counterclockw ise (pull out

    on seat size 8)

    - C lean all parts of the rem ains of product and

    contam ination

    D o not scratch or dam age parts during cleaning!

    - C heck all parts for potential dam age

    - Exchange dam aged parts (only use genuine

    Alfa Laval parts)

    Step 1

    - Ensure that the plant is depressurized and com pletely

    drained.

    - D econtam inate the plant, w ash it out and ventilate it.

    - Loosen the connections according to body type

    - D isassem ble the valve carefully

    Step 3

    The com pressor is loose.

    - Place the com pressor loosely on the actuator spindle.

    - Fit the w ings into the distance piece guides

    4. M aintenance4.3 Assembly/disassembly of the diaphragm, Aseptic Diaphragm Valve Type 605/625 Seat size 8 & 10

    Step 5

    If the diaphragm is not screw ed into the adapter far enough,

    the closing force is transm itted directly onto the threaded pin

    and not via the com pressor. This w ill cause dam age and early

    failure of the diaphragm and thus leakage of the valve.

    If the diap hragm is screw ed in too far no perfect sealing at

    the valve seat w ill be achieved and the function of the valve

    is no longer ensured.

    Step 6

    NOTE! Incorrectly m ounted diaphragm m ay cause valve

    leakage/em ission of product.

    If there is leakage betw een the valve bod y and diaphragm ,

    slightly re-tighten the bolts diagonally and observe even

    com pression.

    If no tightness should be achieved by this, rem ove the

    diaphragm again, check the com plete valve and diaphragm

    and reassem ble, proceeding as described above.

    Step 4

    Mounting an EPDM/PTFE bonded diaphragm withthreaded pin (seat size 10)

    - Screw diaphragm clockw ise tightly into the

    com pressor m anually

    - C heck if the diaphragm boss ts closely in the

    recess of the com pressor

    - If it is dif cult to screw it in, check the thread,

    exchange dam aged parts

    - W hen clear resistance is felt, turn back the

    diaphragm counterclockw ise until its bolt

    holes are in correct alignm ent w ith the bolt holes

    of the actuator.

    4. M aintenance

    Step 4a

    Mounting an EPDM and EPDM/PTFE bondeddiaphragm with threaded pin (seat size 10-50)

    - Screw diaphragm clockw ise tightly into the

    com pressor m anually

    - C heck if the diaphragm boss ts closely in the

    recess of the com pressor

    - If it is dif cult to screw it in, check the thread,

    exchange dam aged parts

    - W hen clear resistance is felt, turn back the

    diap hragm counterclockw ise until its bolt holes

    are in correct alignm ent w ith the bolt holes of the

    actuator.

    Step 4b

    Mounting an EPDM and EPDM/PTFE bonded push-fit

    diaphragm

    (seat size 8)

    - Place the diaphragm w ith the fastening spigot in an

    inclined position at the recess of the com pressor

    - Screw /push it in m anually

    Step 4c

    Mounting a PTFE/EPDM 2-piece diaphragm

    - Invert the diaphragm face m anually using a clean,

    padded m at bigger nom inal sizes.

    - Position the backing diaphragm onto the com pressor

    - Position the diaphragm rear face onto the backing

    diaphragm

    - Screw the diaphragm face clockw ise tightly into the

    com pressor. The diaphragm boss m ust t closely in the

    recess of the com pressor

    - If it is dif cult to screw it in, check the thread and

    exchange dam aged parts

    - W hen clear resistance is felt turn back the diaphragm

    counterclockw ise until its bolt holes are in correct

    alignm ent w ith the bolt holes of the actuator

    If the diaphragm is not screw ed into the adapter far enough,

    4. M aintenance

    Prerequisite for mounting the d iaphragm on the actuator

    M ount the correct diaphragm that suits the valve (diaphragm m ust be suitable for product, concentration, tem perature and

    pressure).

    NOTE!R em ove the actuator before m ounting the concave/convex diaphragm as described in section 5.1.

    Step 3

    The com pressor for seat sizes 25-100 is loose.

    - Place the com pressor loosely on the actuator spindle.

    - Fit the w ings into the distance piece guides

    - The com pressor is screw ed in tight for the seat size

    100.

    Step 1

    Removal instructions

    - Ensure that the plant is depressurized and com pletely

    drained

    - D econtam inate the plant, w ash it out and ventilate it

    - Loosen the connections according to body type

    - R em ove the valve w ith w elded in butt w eld spigots

    from the piping using appropriate m eans

    - D isassem ble the valve carefully

    Step 2

    Disassembly of EPDM, EPDM/PTFE bonded and

    PTFE/EPDM 2-piece diaphragms.

    Before disassembling the diaphragms, please

    4. M aintenance

    Step 4a

    Mounting en EPDM and EPDM/PTFE bonded

    diaphragm with threaded pin (Seat size 25-100)

    - Screw diaphragm clockw ise tightly into the

    com pressor m anually

    - C heck if the diaphragm boss ts closely in the

    recess of the com pressor

    - If it is dif cult to screw it in, check the thread,

    exchange dam aged parts

    - W hen clear resistance is felt, turn back the

    diaphragm counterclockw ise until its bolt

    holes are in correct alignm ent w ith the b olt holes

    of the actuator.

    NOTE! Insert supporting m esh (B ) and foil (A) for seat

    sizes 80 and 100.

    Step 4b

    Mounting an EPDM/PTFE two-piece diaphragm (Seat

    size 25 -80)

    - Invert the diaphragm face m anually using a clean,

    padded m at bigger nom inal sizes.

    - Position the backing diaphragm onto the com pressor

    - Position the diaphragm rear face onto the backing

    diaphragm

    - Screw the diaphragm face clockw ise tightly into the

    com pressor. The diaphragm boss m ust t closely in the

    recess of the com pressor

    - If it is dif cult to screw it in, check the thread and

    exchange dam aged p arts

    - W hen clear resistance is felt turn back the diaphragm

    counterclockw ise until its bolt holes are in correct

    alignm ent w ith the bolt holes of the actuator

    - Press the diaphragm face tightly onto the backing

    diaphragm m anually so that it returns to its original

    shap e and ts closely on the backing diaphragm .

    If the diaphragm is not screw ed into the adapter far enough,

    the closing force is transm itted directly onto the threaded pin

    and not via the com pressor. This w ill cause dam age and early

    failure of the diaphragm and thus leakage of the valve.

    If the diaphragm is screw ed in too far no perfect sealing at

    the valve seat w ill be achieved and the function of the valveis no longer ensured.

    NOTE! Incorrectly m ounted diaphragm m ay cause valve

    leakage/em ission of m edium .

    WARNING!

    If there is leakage betw een the valve body and diaphragm ,

    slightly re-tighten the b olts diag onally and observe even

    com pression.

    If no tightness should be achieved by this, rem ove the dia-

    phragm again, check the com plete valve and diaphragm and

    reassem ble, proceeding as described above.
