Course OutlineBCM 2011: BCM Program Development & ManagementIn order to develop a BCMS, it is important to understand the requirements of management systems, the core concepts of business continuty, and how to determinethe scope of the program, develop policy, and the requirements for leadership.

BCM 2021: Conducting the Business Impact AnalysisThe BIA process is covered from beginning to end with a focus on the identification of the key products and services and the critical activities and resources that support them.

BCM 2022: The Risk Assessment & Managing RiskUsing the ISO 31000 standard on Risk Management as its basis, this course teaches the process of conducting a risk assessment and analyzing the results to mitigate risks.

BCM 2023: Determining Strategies to Protect the OrganizationBuiding on the information gathered during the BIA and RA, BCM 2023 explores how to evaluate different strategies for the protection of people, property, assets, technology and information, reputation, suppliers, and financial viability.

BCM 2031: Plan Design, Program Structure, & Required DocumentationIn order to develop the actual plan documents the organization will need to decide on the approach, methodology and the plan document structure. This course also outlines the necessary roles and responsibilities for the BCMS and required documentation.

BCM 2032: Incident Response, Management & CommunicationImplementing procedures for responding to an incident of any kind, managing theincident, and successfully communicating with interested parties before, during , and after the incident is essential. BCM 2032 also ties to the guidelines of ISO 22320 on Incident Management and PAS 200 on Crisis Management & Communications.

BCM 2033: Business Continuity & Recovery Plans & ProceduresAll of the procedures developed as part of strategy development need to be documented. BCM 2041: Awareness, Training , Testing, & ExercisingBuilding a BCMS culture is an essential component of ensuring a successful program.Ensuring that those responsible for the BCMS are competent and increasingcompetence through awareness, training, testing, & exercising is vital to the successof the BCMS. BCM 2041 also aligns to the guidance of ISO 22398 for exercising. BCM 2042: Program Evaluation, Improvement & AuditIt is impossible to keep a BCM pogram current and actionable without monitoring,measuring, analyzing, and evaluating the BCMS. BCM 2042 explores the internalaudit, management review, self-declaration, audit reporting, and update process.

Course DescriptionEssentials of Business Continuity Management provides you with knowledge to develop a standards-based, auditable and actionable business continuity program for your organization. This course is the critical starting point to developing a program that can be certified ISO 22301. BCM 2000 is comprised of 10 individual modules that can be taken as a series or in combination over time.

Essentials of Business Continuity Management provides the foundation necessary for new or current professionals interested in either developing a career in Business Continuity Management, seeking certification, or for those professionals responsible for developing a business continuity program for their organization.  It is designed to expose the participant to all aspects of a holistic BCM program and to be a solid “how to” guide for building a business continuity program for all types of organizations.

Student activities are included throughout the course and are designed as knowledge checks to reinforce lesson materials and to provide attendees with hands-on activities that will enable them to become familiar with and apply these principles in their jobs.

The course content is based on the requirements of ISO 22301. In addition to ISO 22301, reference is made to the following standards and best practices: ISO 22300, 22313, 22320, 22398, 27031, 31000, 24762, 19011, 17022, 17050, and BCI's 2013 GPG.   Delivery StructureEssentials of BCM is offered as a workbook self-study course as well as an elearning self-study course. Both the workbook and elearning options include the following elements:• Course books (not ppts!)• Open for Business Toolkit• Case Study • Course review activities to test for comprehension• Templates for Standards Compliance•. Multi-media •. Sample documents such as policies, BIA questions, risk assessment tools, etc. In addition, the elearning version includes voice over ppt presentations, multi-media, and email access to BCM expert for questions on course content. Certification and AccreditationSuccessful completion of this course with a passing grade on the exam completes the educational component for certification as a ISO 22301 Lead Implementer.

The ISO 22301 Lead Implementer Certification Exam is a timed online exam comprised of 8 short-answer questions requiring a 250-400 word response for each quesion. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass each question. Holders of the Lead Implementer certification are entitled to apply for statutory membership with the BCI at the AMBCI or MBCI level, subject to evidence of required experience.
