St. Vincent de Paul

THANK YOU!

St. Vincent de Paul, St. Faustina Conference would like to thank all parishioners who donated for our Christmas Season. We thank you for the food, the monetary donations, and all the gift cards. You helped to make a memorable Christmas for 71 families, totaling 203 people. You, the parishioners of St. Faustina, are very generous, and we thank you for that. During January, we are asking for taco shells, taco sauce, and taco seasoning, along with all non-perishable food items. If anyone needs assistance, please call our office at 586-773-9231. All calls are kept confidential. We wish you a happy and healthy New Year! “It is a kingly act to assist the fallen.” … St. Teresa of Calcutta

Epiphany

The Feast of the Epiphany honors the visit of the wise men to worship the baby Jesus. The men were astrologers who were looking for the star that would lead them to the promised Messiah. The wise men brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh with them. Gold was a precious and expensive gift that showed how important Jesus was. Frankincense was a sweet perfume which was often burned in the temple to worship God. It was a sign that Jesus should be worshipped. Myrrh was used to keep things fresh, and it was used by the women to anoint Jesus’ body when He died.

The Holy Spirit prompted the wise men to follow the star, gave them strength to fulfill their journey, and filled them with the grace they needed to have a personal encounter with Jesus. According to Pope Francis, “The Feast of the Epiphany is a time for all Christians to ask themselves where God can be found in their lives. Like the wise men, Christians must continue to journey closer and closer to the Lord, attentive to the signs of God’s presence.”

Just like the wise men, the light of our faith should be so strong that we are able to see and to recognize our Lord in our lives. We should have the courage to follow the light of the star that keeps Jesus close to us so that He is always in our hearts and on our minds. The gift of Epiphany is Christ’s gift of Himself for our salvation. Let us pray that Jesus might become an Epiphany in our own lives.

God Bless,

Sandy Acord Growing Faith...Engaging Hearts

The next religious education classes for grades 1-8 will resume on January 6, 2020. The Confirmation class will resume on January 13, 2020. For this class the students must bring their Confirmation sponsors with them to stay for the entire class.

Living Rosary

The Living Rosary will be cancelled this month. I want to thank the two ladies that answered my request for someone who can repair rosaries. I appreciate the calls and will contact the parishioner that needs help. God Bless you all and don’t forget to keep saying the rosary daily. Mary

Stewardship Thoughts

The gifts we are called to bring to baby Jesus and lay at his feet are our prayers and penances, next to those gifts of worldly wealth. What is it that you have to bring to the stable on this feast of the Epiphany of the Lord? Unless those prayers and penances lead to a new way of living, our gifts will be void of meaning. What we lay before him speaks to the change in us that he has given to us by his birth. Our daily stewardship is resembled in those gifts. If we are to truly echo the kingdom of God in our lives and actions, what we ultimately offer to him is no less than our entire selves. This baby will give his entire self for us, and his work must continue through our hands and feet.

While we unnumbered children of the wicked centuries come after with our penances and prayers,

and lay them down in the sweet-smelling hay beside the wise men’s golden jars.*
