NEWSLETTER Vol. 21, Number 6
June, 2016 Paso Robles, CA
The Prez Sez By Estrella Warbirds President
Jerry Takier
NEW EDITOR NEEDED:
Computer experience needed but you don’t have to be a
genius! Looking for a new person to take over this
position as my last publication will be done in June. Put
your own spin on the look and have fun with it. We will
be going to a POSTCARD if no replies. Please call me at
712-5699. A GREAT WAY TO FILL IN THAT
VOLUNTEER TIME! Penny Takier
Jerry
I have good news for our museum. We have hired a new Museum
Coordinator, which in my opinion is the glue that holds this organization
together. By the time this newsletter hits the newsstand, he will already have
been on the job for a couple of weeks, working with staff and directors learning
the job and the volunteers.
Jerry Jones is a retired businessman, living in Paso Robles for the last 15
years. He has extensive managerial experience in such areas as supply, safety,
personnel and sales.
The committee in charge of interviewing candidates for this position were
unanimous in their choice. He tells me his first action will be to get to know all
the volunteers, so don’t be surprised if you get a call or email from him, if you
haven’t already. He suggested a dinner meeting for volunteers to meet him,
and the idea was on the agenda for the May Board of Directors meeting. Stay
tuned for more news on this idea.
The interview committee was also in favor of hiring an assistant Museum
Coordinator to fill in in the absence of the Coordinator, and a candidate
interested in the position was to be contacted just at press time for the
newsletter. Stay tuned for more information on this item, too.
More good news for your museum - the annual car show, Warbirds, Wings
and Wheels 8, was, by all accounts, a huge success. And this comes on a
weekend when we were in direct competition with the Morro Bay car show.
The success of this event rests squarely on the shoulders of Dan and Carol
Verstuyft, who chaired the event, and just as importantly, Toni Moore, who
was in charge of getting all you volunteers involved. I want to thank Dan,
Carol, Toni, and all you volunteers who continue to amaze me.

Ren was born in Pensacola, FL where his Dad was a flight instructor. The next several years were spent in California because Ren Jr. was West Coast Navy. This was followed by three years in Japan (NAS Atsugi) and then onto Northern Virginia. Ren graduated from high school in Fairfax County, Virginia followed by college at the American University, Washington, DC where he matriculated cum laude with a degree in anthropology and a minor in linguistics and archeology.
Ren attended law school at the College of William and Mary and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1977. While waiting for a security clearance for employment in the Office of the General Counsel, US Army Corps of Engineers, Ren was offered employment by the Directorate of Operations (DO) at CIA. Ren, with his wife Toni and sons Chris and Tim, embarked on a global adventure for the next 26 years including field assignments in Madras, New Delhi, Frankfurt, Cairo, and Los Angeles. Ren’s HQS operational duties included management assignments on the Afghan and Iran Task Forces, as well as the Counterterrorism Center. Ren was promoted to the Senior Intelligence Service in 1996. He served as Deputy Chief of the DO’s Human Resources Staff and Deputy Chief, National Resources Division. Ren last served as the DCI’s Representative in Los Angeles with operational responsibility for Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. Ren coordinated with Federal and local law enforcement agencies and served as intelligence liaison on the Mayor’s Task Force on Port Security.
Ren, along with six other senior officers, established the DO’s Leadership Seminar in 1997 which engaged mid-grade officers in a week long discussion of the qualities of leadership. Ren was given the DCI’s Intelligence Commendation Medal for this endeavor.
Upon retirement in 2003, Ren was awarded the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal.
One day after completing government service, Ren joined PhaseOne Communications in Los Angeles as the Executive Vice President. PhaseOne Communications was a research company that used and built upon an analytical model developed by the Political Warfare Executive during WW II to forecast target audience response to communications. Ren was employee #11. During the next nine years, Ren grew the company to 70 employees and increased revenues by a factor of ten. In 2012, Ren was the President and CEO of PhaseOne when it was acquired by a Lockheed Martin subsidiary. Rather than accept reassignment to Washington, DC with the new owner, Ren and his wife moved to the Central Coast in late 2012.
Today Ren and Toni live on 10 acres in Paso. Their son Chris and his wife Erin, professional musicians, live in a second house on the property. Younger son Tim, his wife Freda (both journalists) and grand-daughter Roxie live on a 50 foot trawler berthed in Alameda.
Ren is still a member of the Virginia Bar as well as the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO).
