2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The sub-cultures that I tried to represent in my magazine was hipsters (the modern day sub-culture) this is because I aimed my magazine at people that lived in urban areas who liked niche alternative music but also have a keen interest in fashion and hipster sub culture fits in with that criteria so was easy to represent that sub-culture in my magazine.

Evaluation 2 & 3 By Will Hall 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? When creating my magazine I decided to represent the culture of gender particularly males throughout my magazine. I chose this because I have aimed my magazine at the male gender so by trying to represent them in my magazine it might appeal more to my audience. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The way I represented the culture of gender is mostly through mise en scene. The first instance of this is of the costume the model is wearing in the magazine. He is wearing a casual jacket and jeans which is the sort of clothing associated with males especially in the music business. Noel Gallagher an artist that fits in with my genre often being associated with this look. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? Another way I presented genre through mise-en-scene is by using a prop in my photos. This is because in my photos the model is always holding a guitar in some way I did this because guitars are now mostly associated with males in the music business especially with the rise of Ed Sheeran a widely recognised male artist who is known for playing guitar. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? As well as props I also used facial expressions to represent gender in my magazine. This is because I gave my model instructions to present a serious facial expression for my front cover. This is because magazines that have male stars on their covers are usually have the male star pulling a serious face unlike when women are presented on front covers they usually smile as if to say their having fun unlike male stars who seem to be presented more seriously about what they do. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The final way I represented gender in my magazine is through colour. This is because the main theme colour I used throughout my magazine was the colour of blue and stereotypically blue has always been a colour that is often associated with boys and the male gender which is why I used it as my main colour because then my magazine may appeal more to a male audience because it contains masculine colours in it which may attract my audience to read it. 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? An independent company is one that only operates in one particular field and nothing else e.g. publishing it is also not run by another company therefore it is independent 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? A media conglomerate, media group or media institution is a company that owns large numbers of companies in various mass media such as television, radio, publishing, movies, and the Internet. Media conglomerates exist in Europe and Asia, as well as Latin America. As a legal construct a media conglomerate has become a standard feature of the global economic system since big examples of a media conglomerate are Disney, 21st century fox, Warner Brothers and CBS. 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? Most likely my magazine would be distributed by a independent company this is because my target audience is a niche on so therefore it will not appeal to that many people so it would be more suited to and independent company because they will be able to distribute my magazine to the specific places where my target audience will be unlike conglomerates who would distribute my magazine everywhere which could mean less people will by it because its exposed to a mainstream audience who may not like it. 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? Distributors of similar products to mine include: Bauer IPC media Future publishing 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? Bauer Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europes largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 230 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. In 1994, the company bought a small magazine called For Him Magazine which is now the core of the best-selling international multi-platform brand FHM. In 1996, we acquired digital music TV channel The Box, as a route into the small screen business, which has grown into Box Television, a seven channel joint venture TV business with Channel 4. Continuing its history of magazine launches, Closer was launched in 2002 and Britains first weekly glossy, GRAZIA, was launched in 2005.Today, Bauer Media spans over 80 influential brand names covering a diverse range of interests including heat, Parker's, MATCH, CAR, Yours and Kerrang!. Bauer target music magazine audience is mainstream this is because the magazine they publish to do with music are all well known music magazines such as Kerrang and Mojo plus they help produce well known music television channels and radio stations such as magic and kiss. 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? IPC media (time inc) IPC media(Time Inc). Is Britains leading publisher of print and digital magazine content. With more than 60 iconic brands - including Decanter, Country Life, Horse & Hound, NME, What's On TV and Wallpaper* - Time Inc. UK (formerly IPC Media) creates content for multiple platforms, across print, online, mobile, tablets and experiences. IPCs target market for their music magazines is niche this is because of their only music magazine they produce NME which is only sold a specific market. 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? Future publishing Future plc is a media company. In 2006, it was the ranked the sixth-largest media corporation in the United Kingdom. It publishes more than 30 magazines in fields such as video games, technology, films and photography. Future is the official magazine company of all three major games console manufacturers. It is a constituent of the FTSE Fledgling Index. The company also owns the US Company, Future US. Futures music magazine market is a niche one. Some music magazines they publish are Classic Rock, Total Guitar, Future Music and Guitar Techniques. Which are not well known one and are more specific to different types of music fans. 3. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? The distributor I have chose to distribute my magazine is future publishing. I have chosen this company because like the market of my magazine future publishing also distribute niche music magazines so they would be able to distribute my magazine in the right places so it is available to my target audience. However another reason I chose future publishing is because they do not distribute any other major music magazines only specific music magazines directed at specific people therefore my magazine would not have big competition to compete with it so future publish could put its main focus on distributing my magazine because I personally believe that my magazine has the potential to become the next biggest niche music magazine since NME.
