How did you attract/address your audience?

Jess Gordon- Media Evaluation 5.

I ensured that I attracted my target audience whist producing and designing my magazine. I did this specifically by focusing on the photography side of things. This aspect is extremely important because it is the first thing potential buyers will notice when scanning through the different products in a shop. To attract my target audience, I had to make sure that the photographs I took were current and relevant to the magazine itself. The main image of Lili-Maeve uses direct address as she is looking directly into the camera lens, this is something which will definitely catch the buyer's eye

Direct Address

PhotographyNone of the below photographs are using direct address to lure the reader in, however they do grab the reader’s attention by the pure attractiveness of the images. The left-hand photograph shows a mature young couple, the three men in the middle connote sophistication and the girl on the right illustrates purity. All three images attract and address my audience perfectly.

Following this, I needed to ensure that the artist's name was in a bigger font to everything else as it needs to make to potential buyer actually purchase the magazine and want to read more about the new artist who has just released her debut album

Biggest font on the page

The masthead of the magazine itself needed to be bold and clear so the reader becomes increasingly familiar with the brand name and wants to purchase the next edition. As well as this I needed to ensure that nothing was covering it, for example the main featured photograph overlapping like on more well-known magazines.

The colour scheme was another way addressing my audience, the theme is monochrome colours, something which some people would label as 'classy', fitting purpose for this magazine, purely because I'm aiming my magazine and people with a higher income and a higher social status. This scheme was illustrated throughout my whole magazine, except the twitter feature on the double page spread as I felt that this particular section needed extra attention drawn to it.

The content of the double page is also attracting my audience as they want to find out about this new Soul artist and her lifestyle due to the fact they are a similar age to the featured artist. The interview is chatty but not too informal, it finds a good balance which my target audience will appreciate.

Audience Feedback The audience feedback indicated that the magazine was correctly addressed at the audience because the ratings I received were on the higher end of the scale rather than the lower. To add to this, all of the girls in the group discussion spoke out about how relevant the content , especially in the double page spread, was. The majority of the girls said that they liked the magazine because of the simplicity and how appealing and eye-catching it was. Thanks to the positive feedback, I know that the addressing of my audience was carried out correctly.
