Open Evening is coming!

Do you know anyone who is looking for a school which offers a Christian education where students “Grow Up Into Christ”?

Invite them to come along to our Open Evening.

They will have the opportunity to take a tour of our facilities, meet our dedicated staff and experience what belonging to our community looks like..

ALL SCHOOL NEWS

Government rules on student absence from school The Minister for Education approved changes to the use of the Attendance Register codes in 2015. In short, the standard states:

Holidays - Holidays taken by students outside of school vacation periods will now be included as absences. A Certificate of Exemption will no longer be granted for this purpose. Families are encouraged to holiday or travel during school vacations.

If travel during a school term IS NECESSARY, a request for absence should be addressed to the Principal clearly explaining the reason for the travel, the dates of absence, and, if travelling overseas, a copy of the itinerary should be attached.

If the Principal does not believe the absence is in the best interests of the student or does not accept the reason, the student will be marked as absent on the register.

If the absence is in excess of 50 days, the student may be eligible to enrol in Distance Education. (NB: A student cannot be enrolled in more than one school concurrently – including Distance Education).

Disability Provisions for the 2020 Year 12, Higher School Certificate

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) has specifically developed the disability examination provisions program to enable students to access and complete the Higher School Certificate examinations. NESA’s aim is to offer practical support to students by providing approved provisions such as extra time to rest and/or write, writ-ers or readers, special coloured examination papers and small group supervision.

If students have a special examination need – whether it is related to a physical condition, visual impairment (including colour blindness), hearing loss or learning disability, please contact Mrs Melinda Gindy to discuss the special need.

Applications for 2020 must commence as soon as possible to enable time to collate necessary documentation.

Crunch n Sip

Good nutrition and healthy eating habits are an im-portant part of learning. Each morning our students enjoy Crunch n Sip, when they will have a drink of water and eat a serving of fresh fruit or vegetables. We ask parents to support this, by providing your child with a serving of fresh fruit or vegetables for their Crunch n Sip break. Students should also bring a drink bottle filled with water.

Rather than sweets or a packet of chips, why not pack a second Crunch n Sip for your child to enjoy at recess time?

Each week, the Cancer Council of NSW provide us with nutrition snippets to encourage healthy hab-its. Here are some tips for packing a healthy lunch box.

Swimming Carnival

At RPCS, we are always looking for exciting oppor-tunities and events to learn beyond the classroom.

On Thursday, 13 February, Primary joined Second-ary in the RPCS annual Swimming Carnival. This was a fantastic event that students were able to at-tend and participate in. We witnessed enthusiasm and joy from our students cheering for their Tribes. However, the strong swimmers in the Wolves Tribe saw them gain victory.

This year we had the opportunity to send students to the Zone Swimming Carnival on Monday 24 Feb-ruary. The following students represented RPCS.

What a truly great display of Honour, Community and Stewardship at our carnivals for Primary and Secondary! There was so much passion, determi-nation and encouragement as students participat-ed in various competitive events. Blessings and special thanks to the families who joined us and the staff who put in so much effort.

We hope to see your child participate next year!

Diverse Learning K to 12

Student diversity is valued within our wider community and is most certainly celebrated here at Regents Park Christian School. Each individual student, made in the image of God, is unique! They are unique in personality, appearance, interests, goals, and educational needs. Best practice in education fosters that uniqueness and strives to nurture students at an individual level.

When we talk about Diverse Learning here at RPCS, we are referring to 3 areas of learning needs: Gifted and Talented, English as a Second Language/Dialect (EAL/D) and Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities may include:

• Processing disorders such as Dyslexia or Dysgraphia (now referred to as a Specific Learning Disability of ...)• Neurodevelopmental disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) • Emotional or behavioural disorders such as Anxiety or Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD)• Physical disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy or Deafness • Intellectual disabilities, or, • Other types of learning challenges such as Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)

In fostering belonging here at RPCS, the diverse learning team will be working closely with teachers, families and students to develop individual, strength-based programs designed to empower our students whilst remediating and adjusting for their learning challenges. The diverse learning team is also responsible for disability provisions relating to HSC and NAPLAN, in addition to our requirements under the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Keep an eye out in future editions of Community News for further information around the area of diverse learning.

SECONDARY

We will be holding the School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day as a major fundraising event this year on April 8 2020! We’re doing it to raise much needed money for lunchtime activities and resources.

About the Day The Crazy Colour Day is all about Fun! It will be a huge colourful mess and is undoubtably one of the most exciting days on our school’s calendar, with everyone’s participation the aim, so please make sure they attend of the day and cheer the other kids on!

How Does My Child Fundraise? Firstly, go to schoolfunrun.com.au and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising re-volves around this page.

Students who raise just $10 will be able to choose a prize! The more they raise, the better their reward – don’t forget to check these out in the sponsorship form! We have educated students on the dangers of door knocking without adult supervision, and we encourage you to reiterate this at home. The great thing about online fundrais-ing is that you can share the link to your child’s profile with friends and family via email, SMS and Social media.

Online Fundraising The easiest way to help your child raise money is through online fundraising, where students raise an average of $120. On top of raising more money, it’s also safer and easier than doorknocking and you don’t have to worry about handling money! To start fundraising online, go to your student profile page at schoolfunrun.com.au and share your online fundraising link.

Getting InvolvedNot only can you support the school and students with your sponsorship – but you can join in on the fun! We would love to welcome parents and family members to attend the Crazy Colour Day. If you would like to volunteer on the day, please contact me on the details below. I can’t wait to see you at our event!

Ordering Prizes – ALL PRIZES MUST BE ORDERED ONLINE Please contact your school’s coordinator if this isn’t possible.

Prizes MUST be ordered between the April 8 2020 and April 29 2020. Simply visit schoolfunrun.com.au to create / log into your Profile Page between these dates. Then click on the ‘CLAIM YOUR PRIZE’ button and follow the prompts. If you have any questions, please contact the School Fun-Run team on 1800 FUN RUN and they will gladly assist!

Thank you, good luck and happy fundraising!
