Disclosures

Lawsuit Settlement During the year, the Parish received $575,000 in proceeds from a lawsuit against the general contractor responsible for installing the concrete floor in the basement. During construction, the concrete floor was not allowed to properly settle and as a result, had structural issues that resulted in cracking and abnormal deterioration. The proceeds will be used to repair these issues. Any additional funds left over after the repairs will be used on general maintenance of the church building.

Rectory Purchase

In April of 2018, the Parish purchased a house in West Springs to replace the current rectory. The new rectory has adequate room for three priests and is a very short walk to the church building. The purchase was approved by both the Finance Committee and the Bishop. The house was pur-chased using a funds from the Diocese and will be added to the value of the building fund loan. The decision to purchase a home, rather than build on-site, was debated at length by the Finance Committee. In the end, three factors drove the decision to purchase rather than to build on-site: 1. Building on-site would utilize space that can be otherwise used for additional parking 2. Costs associated with building on-site would be comparable to purchasing off-site. In addition, the inconvenience of having a construction

area on the church site during regular Parish operations would take away from the parishioner experience at St. Michael's 3. It was suggested by Bishop McGrattan (and previously Bishop Henry) that an offsite rectory is a better option in order to provide our priests

with privacy and the ability to have work-life balance away from their duties at the church.
