Dear Parents,
Firstly, can I say thank you to parents for your support and patience when we had to
close the school on Wednesday 7th November due to a lack of water supply in the local
area. Unfortunately, Brunswick Park Road is still closed near the cemetery and there is
still no news as to when it will be reopened. We will keep you updated.
Our first Y7 parents’ evening this week was very successful and turnout as usual was very
high. Our new electronic booking was very successful and made sure that as many
parents as possible could have appointments with their child’s teachers. The second
evening for tutor groups 7C, 7A and 7R will take place on Thursday 22nd November from
3.30pm.
Year 11 students are busy preparing for their upcoming mock examinations which will
begin on Monday 19th November and will run for 2 weeks. The exam timetable has
already been distributed to students and parents via a letter before half term and it is
vital that students continue to revise for their exams. The timetable can also be found in
this newsletter.
During the exam period Year 11 students must ensure that they are in school by 8:15am
as there will be pre-exam briefings that are essential for them to attend. These briefings
enable students to be reminded of important exam technique and information for
different subjects and were very successful last year.
Results from these examinations will be given to parents and students at the Year 11
parents’ evening on Thursday 10th January 2019. It is important that parents are able to
attend this important evening to get an update on their child’s progress and
performance in the mock exams and their next steps. The booking system will be open
from Monday 10th December.
Over the next few weeks we shall be organising several Christmas events including a
Christmas Jumper Charity day on Friday 14th December and in the following week a
Christmas Fayre for students, our Christmas Carol Concert on 19th December at 6pm and
the St Andrew Choir will be singing carols again this year at Trafalgar Square on Thursday
20th December. I warmly invite parents to join us in our festivities.
Best wishes,
Rob Ahearn, Headteacher

Attendance and Punctuality
Attendance and punctuali ty are key factors for success at school and in l i fe. It is so important
that al l lessons can start on t ime in order for learning to be maximised. At St. Andrew we aim for
each student’s attendance to be as close to 100% as poss ible. 95% may represent an excellent
score in a test but it does not represent a high standard of at tendance.
We monitor attendance and punctuality very careful ly every day. If a student has two or more
‘ lates’ (to school or to any lesson) they wil l have a one-hour detention after school on Friday.
Please note that being on t ime in the morning does not m ean arriving through the school gate by
8.30am, they have to be in their lesson not just on s ite. Hence we expect students to be on s ite
by 8.20. Most of our punctual ity issues arise f irst thing in the morning which is why we send text
messages home to inform parents .
Over t ime we wil l review our procedures and may move to detentions on the same day. I f this is
the case, we wi l l inform you in advance.

Art Trip to the Natural History Museum On Wednesday 31st October 2018, the year 10 GCSE Art students took on a lengthy journey to The Natural History Museum on an expedit ion to f ind different types of animals for their exam preparat ion. I t was a t iresome journey but we had courage to get throug h the day and ended up having an exhilarating t ime. During our t ime at the museum, we explored the corridors and came across many dif ferent interesting types of animals. We noted how realist ic and detai led the animals
were, showing us their actual s izes as well as their beauty. It was most def inite ly a worthwhile trip, inspir ing students to see and sketch animals from various angles and perspectives. Miss J Ever itt , Lead Teacher
for Art

Our new Senior Leadership Team
My name is Alex and I am proud to have been a ppointed Head Boy at St Andrew’s 6th Form. My ambition is to study Economics at university. The universit ies that I would l ike to choose are highly competit ive such as the London School of Economics. Therefore it ’s not enough to get good grades, I also need a good personal statement to set me aside from the competit ion which is why I believe this s ixth form is perfect as it provides a lot of opportunit ies for me to improve my personal statement such as EPQ and Si lver DoE Award as wel l as the Young Enterpr ise programme.
My name is Andrianna Christou a nd I am Head Girl at St Andrew . I decided to stay on at St. Andrew because I have been here from the start. I was able to form good relations with the teachers who provided me with learning and support and enabled me to exceed my target grades at GCSE level. I know they wil l do the same for me at A Level.
I am Maya Jade Randerwalla and I am Deputy Head Girl . I chose this school because I believe it has already helped me grow so much as a person and al lowed me to gain more confidence. The school has continued to direct me into a good path in terms of future educati on and eventually a career.
My name is Christopher Yiannitsarou and I am Deputy Head Boy. The main reason for me choosing this s ixth form is that it ’s l ike a small community where everyone gets along and there is always someone to talk to whether it ’s being a teacher i f you are unsure about work or another student to m ake friends with.

assembled. Special mentions must go to Sammy Shipil l is , Joshua Forbes, Koni Ivanov and Christos
