INGHAMTON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS THINK FOR THEMSELVES. They challenge ideas, spark discussions, explore concepts and push boundaries. They want to change the world for the better. They’re ready to write the next chapter in their stories.

If you’re looking for a university that will encourage you to unleash your curiosity and creativity, a place where uncommon is commonplace, a school where you’ll study and play with students who are both different from you and similar at the same time, then you’ve found it at Binghamton University.

Lemmings NEED NOT APPLY

Binghamton University’s commitment to a true liberal arts education still exists in Harpur College, which lives happily alongside our five (soon to be six) professional schools.

SOCIETY IS OUR LABORATORY. Students in the College of Community and Public Affairs use their intellect to impact lives, affecting change for the public good and making a difference in their communities and beyond. (An undergraduate program in human development is offered.)

STETHOSCOPES AREN’T THE ONLY TOOLS OF TRADE. Opportunities in nursing are almost limitless, and Decker School of Nursing graduates have found success in clinical practice, teaching, research and administration.

LEARN how to think, NOT WHAT TO THINK

DON’T JUST GET MARKS; MAKE ONE OF YOUR OWN. Harpur College students develop superb communication, research and analytical skills that position them to make their mark on the world. They thrive on stage, in the lab and with the word.

OUR STUDENTS STAY AT THE HEAD OF THE CLASS. As teachers, administrators, scholars and policy makers, alumni of the Graduate School of Education become catalysts for knowledge for generations to come. (An undergraduate minor in education is offered.)

YOU WON’T NEED TO EMBELLISH YOUR RÉSUMÉ. School of Management students graduate with practical experience gained in our Zurack Trading Facility, PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholars Program and through internships with industry leaders.

DON’T THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. DESIGN A NEW ONE. Creating solutions to what others see as problems is what engineering is all about, and students in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science are among the best and brightest new minds in the field.

DISCOVER THE FUTURE OF PHARMACY. A School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is being established and is expected to matriculate its first class in fall 2017, pending Precandidate status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

Sometimes you’ll find Binghamton students in classrooms, but just as often you’ll find them in the lab, on the stage, in the field or at an industry partner’s facility solving real-world problems. Our students — regardless of their major — learn by doing, which promotes extraordinary success on campus and beyond.

OUR STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO LEAVE CLASS AND they like it

THE FRESHMAN RESEARCH IMMERSION PROGRAM gives first-year students an authentic research experience in sciences and engineering. It’s one of several research-focused programs for undergraduate students.

English major Jaineba Chang spent her summer writing a novel about Jamaican culture. Her work was funded by the SUMMER SCHOLARS AND ARTISTS PROGRAM, which encourages undergraduate research and creative projects.

BINGHAMTON STUDENTS GAIN EXPERIENCE through internships, practical clinical experiences, service-learning projects, and volunteer and student club activities that help them set a course for college and career success.

Binghamton’s campus culture encourages diversity and inclusion. Our high-achieving students possess a wide range of life experiences, from first-generation college-goers to international students from more than 100 countries. We encourage students to explore the world, offering access to 600+ study abroad programs. We’re also committed to health and wellness and giving back to the community.

VIVE LA différence

The University HOSTS MORE THAN 3,300 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FROM OVER 100 COUNTRIES and nearly 100 international scholars. We have been honored with numerous national awards for our comprehensive global programming.

For more than a decade, Binghamton has been NAMED TO THE PRESIDENT’S HIGHER EDUCATION COMMUNITY SERVICE HONOR ROLL, which recognizes institutional commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

BINGHAMTON JOINED THE PARTNERSHIP FOR A HEALTHIER AMERICA in 2014, and has already made significant changes across campus to focus on healthy eating, physical fitness and wellness.

Upstate, that is! New construction and renovations have taken place across campus over the last few years, and it was all done to give you the best college experience possible. From new science and research buildings, new residence halls and a new dining center to new admissions and alumni centers and new athletic fields, we’ve built an even better Binghamton. Campus facilities also include extensive libraries, a five-building science complex, a 190-acre Nature Preserve, performing arts center, art museum, fitness center and more.

Combine these facilities with our 280+ students clubs (including everything from a cappella groups and the debate team to rock climbing and rugby) and you’ll see why The Princeton Review ranks Binghamton as one of the top schools in the nation with “more to do on campus.” We’re also proud to be a Division 1 school with 21 athletic teams. Go Bearcats!

Walk from a desert to the tropics in less than five seconds in our E. W. HEIER TEACHING GREENHOUSE. Featuring warm temperate, cool temperate, desert and tropical climates, the greenhouse holds 6,000 exotic plants and serves as a living laboratory.

WE’RE changing THE SKYLINE OF NEW YORK

Keeping the campus community safe are officers with the New York State University Police at Binghamton. Other CAMPUS SAFETY INITIATIVES include a sexual assault and prevention program and an emergency communications program.

Buried 2.5 feet beneath the entrance to our Engineering and Science Building is ONE OF THE QUIETEST PLACES ON THE PLANET, the Watson School’s anechoic chamber. In this one-of-a-kind laboratory, acoustics experts are exploring how to make hearing aids better able to distinguish particular sounds.

FUTURE DOCTORS AND LAWYERS GET A GREAT START HERE. 86 percent of Binghamton grads applying to law school are accepted, compared with 76 percent nationally. Our graduates are accepted into medical school at rates 12 percent above the national average.

Choose Binghamton and you won’t regret it. You’ll graduate with less student debt, and who doesn’t want to do that (just ask your parents)? According to The Princeton Review, Binghamton is a top 10 value for public universities based on academics, cost of attendance and financial aid. Also, our graduates are successful, distinguished leaders and professionals to network with, and our current students benefit from our 120,000+ alumni who open doors to careers and opportunities well beyond our campus.

IN FOUR YEARS YOU’LL BE glad YOU DID

The FLEISHMAN CENTER FOR CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT offers an array of services and resources to help you gain employment following graduation. There are also career assistance offices, programs and resources in our schools and colleges.

Approximately 35 PERCENT OF BINGHAMTON GRADUATES GO ON TO GRADUATE OR PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL. Some stay here, while others go on to New York University, Duke, Columbia, Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford and Yale.
