There are countless tanning methods, but the two most common are chrome tanned and vegetable tanned. About 80% of leathers are chrome tanned, which uses a solution of chemicals, acids and salts, and tends to be a lot more pliable and soft. Vegetable tanning uses more natural ingredients which occur in the bark of Oak and Chestnut trees, and has a rigid quality ideal for wallets, belts, bags and straps.

EDGE BEVELERS8076-

Bevels and rounds off edges of leather. Available in four sizes. The larger the number, the wider the bevel.

Edge beveling is usually the final step after all carving has been completed. The angle of the tool is very important for the best results. Hold your project firmly on a flat surface with your free hand. Hold the tool at approximately a 40 degree angle and apply firm pressure on the tool as you push forward. Make bevels in a quick motion. A good bevel is indicated by a continuous “leather thread” from the beveled edge. After time and repeated use, the edge beveler will need to be sharpened for best results.
