ACCA undertakes many checksand controls during the markingprocess to ensure that all examresults are accurate.

Before marking starts, allmarkers attend a meetingwith the examiner to discussthe exam paper and agree adetailed marking scheme. Theexaminer moderates the markingprocess closely and, at the endof the marking period, eachexaminer is required to reviewa sample of marked scripts fortheir paper. This is to ensurethat the marking scheme hasbeen applied consistently byall markers. In addition, theexaminer pays special attentionto scripts where marginal markshave been awarded. At eachsession, ACCA also has a teamof script checkers who ensurethat each question on your

script has been marked, thatthe correct marks have beentransferred to the results sheet, and that the total for the finalmark is correct.

Altogether, there are eightindependent checks duringthe marking process toverify that data returned toACCA by markers is correct.

Any discrepancies that arefound during this process areinvestigated and resolved beforeresults are finalised. Once yourresults have been added to yourstudent record, and your entryoptions have been created forthe next exam session, ACCAthen conducts further checksat the printing stage to ensure

the printed results are accuratebefore they are released. The quality controls applied

at each stage of the marking

process ensure the integrity ofACCAs results data. However,ACCA recognises that studentsmay sometimes feel that theirresults do not reflect theirperceived performance in theexam. In response to this, youcan request an administrativereview of your results if you: receive an absent mark but

you were present at the examand submitted an exam paper

were not present at an exambut received a mark foryour paper

feel that ACCAs qualitycontrols have not beenapplied properly in arriving atyour mark.

At the June 2009 session 1,267administrative reviews werecarried out. A total of 13 errorsmaterial to the overall result were

confirmed and as a consequencethe result originally awarded tothe candidate was changed.

23 cases for appeal followedthe original outcome and wereconsidered by the appealscommittee, formed to review suchcases. None of the appeal caseswere successful. Candidates havebeen advised in writing of this

outcome and of the fact theirresult will remain unchanged. You can request an

administrative review for anypaper-based exam attemptedon the CAT Scheme and ACCAQualification. The administrativereviews allow ACCA to ensuretransparency and fairness. Asan additional benefit to this

service, along with the outcomeof your review, you will receivea breakdown of passes and failsfor each question attempted.

The deadline for requestingan administrative review ofyour December 2009 resultsis 15 March 2010. You willreceive written confirmationof the outcome of the reviewin the week commencing22 March 2010.

Should an error be foundin the review, you will receivethe corrected mark before theexam entry closing date forthe next session. Your markwill be adjusted to reflect yourtrue result.

Please note that yourmark may be lowered if anadministrative error had inflatedyour original mark. If your markis amended as a result of theadministrative review, you willreceive a refund of your reviewfee and a revised ExaminationEntry Form, if applicable.

If, on receipt of the outcomeof your administrative review, you believe that ACCA has notapplied its procedures properly, you may appeal to the ExamAppeals Committee.

To do this, you should submityour appeal in writing to thehead of examinations withineight working days of the

issue of your administrativereview. Your appeal will then beforwarded to the Committeefor consideration. The deadlinefor appeal for the December2009 session is 5 April 2010. Itwill not be possible to accept anyrequests after the closing datefor this service.

If you would like to request an

administrative review, completethe form available at www.accaglobal.com/students/results/reviews
