• Excel users within many of today’s organisations need to share their “value added” information with other spreadsheet users, and …

• They need to be able to do it in REAL TIME,

• These same users also need real time access to data from other internal sources such as databases, web pages and other internal systems,

• Users may need to provide data to other Excel users, databases, web pages and other systems from their spreadsheets (“Publish”),

• They may need to share data with users at other sites around the globe, as well as with their local colleagues,

• Users may wish to publish value added data from their spreadsheets onto web pages for clients, customers or colleagues to view,

• BOTH Publishers and Subscribers also need a way to have seamless, easy to navigate access to the range of real time data being published, including 3rd party real time data providers, internal Publishers and free static and real time data from sources like Yahoo Finance and Google.

• A comprehensive distributed peer to peer network system to meet the real time data sharing needs using Excel and built on DTS’s real-time data distribution protocol technology,

• Each user can be configured as either a Publisher or Subscriber (or both),

• The solution can be configured using an Excel Add-In or managed without an Add-In if required,

• The ExPDA protocol connects to the Distribution Network which is a set of servers that provide persistent caching, data management and data routing functionality as well as access to 3rd party feeds.

• The ExPDA Distribution Network servers connect with one another via a range of hierarchical TCP/IP socket connections to ensure reliable connectivity, and optimum delivery speed at minimal latency,

• This allows remote users to share data in Excel or between Excel and browser pages.

• Data can be published out over the Internet from one Excel user to another or from an Excel spreadsheet to (and from) a browser page,

• ExPDA Distribution Networks located at multiple sites can be connected with each other to enable managed data sharing between multiple locations or users and clients,

• Multi-site shared data is synchronised between connected servers.

ExPDA to Manage Excel Links

ExPDA Helps Solve a Common Problem

Links between Excel sheets often get broken

ExPDA is an ideal solution to manage the problems associated with Excel links.

• Links are managed by the servers so any broken links are easily restored,

• Using ExPDA the last known value of a link is retained and available for use, but the recipient user is warned that the link may be stale,

• When large numbers of linked files are moved to a Sharepoint (for example), ExPDA will assist with eliminating the broken links



• Users of the ExPDA Distribution Network can be configured as Publishers only, Subscribers only, or as both,

• Or, the ExPDA solution can be used just to access 3rd party real time data,

• By default, all data published into the ExPDA Distribution Network is available to the entire network,

• HOWEVER, when required, specific Published data can be permissioned for specified groups or individual subscribers to access,

• In this way control is provided over which record sets are shared between different applications and specific spreadsheet users, and between sites in a multi-site deployment.

Incorporated into ExPDA is a scaleable and easy to navigate Data Selection Tool that is used by Publishers to make the selection of their data easy to find and for Subscribers to make the selection of the many available Published feeds easy to use. This eliminates the need to remember complex feed names and their structure.


A S imple Deployment Example

In the example shown here, real time FX market data is taken into an FX traders spreadsheet using ExPDA and after adjustment by the dealer for positions being carried, the adjusted data is published back to the FX sales team for execution. Here it is presented in a “Top of Book” format.
