The Ken Brooke Magic RangeThe history of our relationship with

Ken Brooke & Paul Stone.

After opening Stevens Magic Emporium in1975—and having a passion for our “Art OfMagic”—I kept hearing from our many magicfriends that there was a special shop in London,England, where all of the professional magicianswould congregate, not only in Great Britain, but inall of Europe.

The top minds in magic were regular visitors andthe magic shop’s name was—Ken Brooke’sMagic Range. I heard that Ken was the TOPmagic demonstrator at magic conventions. Thiscontinued through the late 70’s and finally wethought it would be nice to bring Ken Brooke to

America for a Desert Magic Seminar event. Jay Marshall had endorsed theidea and we, at that time, honored Ken with the Seminar Award for all that he hadcontributed to the magic world all his life! I remember the tears that flowed downhis face with this adulation that we bestowed upon him.

I also heard again, by virtue of Paul Stone, that Ken truly was the finest demonstratorof magic of that time! Ken was not well (health-wise) and Paul Stone was lookingafter him and purchased the rights to all of Ken’s effects. This helped Ken as wellas he was in need of help with his bad health.

So, through Paul Stone we purchased the rights to the Ken BrookeMagic Range for North America in 1982 and have held the rights eversince! We paid Paul Stone not only for distribution rights but also for all of thecard effects of Ken’s that we were to make up ourselves! To this day, we are stillvery proud to maintain these rights and distribute Ken’s items to our customers. In2006, our agreement with Paul Stone was brought up to date and contracted,once again, and we look forward to bringing the magic fraternity these high profileitems for years to come!

Lotto SquareThe magician asks a spectator for a completelyrandom card. The spectator says, for example,3 of hearts. The magician picks up a deck ofcards and a number of lotto tickets. He citesthe game from the scratcher and shows thatthe cards all have corresponding numbers onthe backs of the cards. The magician spreadsthe cards face up and retrieves the chosen 3of hearts. He turns it over and on the back of the 3 of hearts isa number, for example, 36. Haunted TimberThe magician displays an old looking block ofwood and hands it out for thoroughexamination. As the solid oak block is beingexamined, the magician explains that thisparticular piece of wood was removed from ahouse that was said to be haunted. He leansthe block against a bottle and stands back

several feet from the bottle.

As he concentrates and focuses all of his psychicenergy on the block, in about 30 seconds, the block

Want something clever that was created by Ron Wilsonto be able to do Dai Vernon’s Brainwave and beCLEAN at the finish by showing both sides of the deck.In Charlie Miller’s opinion this is the cleanest versionof the Brainwave to date! No angles to worry aboutbefore, during and after the effect.

Magician removes a blue-backed (or red) deck of cardsfrom the case. The deck is fanned toward the audience. He removes one oppositecolor card from his pocket showing back-side only. It is placed into the middle ofthe blue deck and the fan is closed. A spectator is asked to shuffle and to runthrough the cards face up and when he sees a card he fancies to call out the nameof the card. Taking the deck the magician fans the faces of the cards toward theaudience. Very slowly until he comes to the names card, which is pushed upwardfrom the fan. The fanned deck is now slowly turned around and the pushedup card is seen to have a red back! IT IS the red-backed card that wasnamed by the spectator. Yep...true! No confederates!
