THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT AND CLIMATE CHANGE The enhanced greenhouse effect leads to the abnormal warming of the Earth’s surface. This results to a change in climatic patterns around the world, hence the name, climate change. Climate includes long-term patterns of temperature, precipitation, rainfall, humidity and wind patterns. Much of the changes have been attributed to anthropogenic factors (burning of fossil fuels and deforestation). Rising levels of greenhouse gases (CO 2 , methane, etc.) increased the temperature of the Earth’s surface causing massive impacts such as melting of polar ice caps, rising sea levels, erratic weather disturbances and severe floodings in vulnerable areas. Changing climatic conditions drastically affected the natural ecosystems and the human communities that relied on them. http://www.ecy.wa.gov/climatechange/whatis.htm http://www.climateandweather.net/global-warming/factors-that-influence-climate.html http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/scientists/clues.html

The enhanced greenhouse

effect leads to the abnormal warming of the Earth’s

surface. This results to a change in climatic patterns

around the world, hence

the name, climate change.

Climate includes long-term patterns of temperature, precipitation, rainfall, humidity and wind patterns. Much of the changes have been attributed to anthropogenic factors (burning of fossil fuels and deforestation).

Rising levels of greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, etc.) increased the temperature of the Earth’s surface causing massive impacts such as melting of polar ice caps, rising sea levels, erratic weather disturbances and severe floodings in vulnerable areas.

Changing climatic conditions drastically affected the natural ecosystems and the human communities that relied on them.
