FATIMA SHELTER
• The Home - managed by The Society of Vincent de Paul, Conference of Our Lady of Fatima, Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad, 50470 Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur
• Started in January 2000 and originally located at a double storey bungalow at 24 Lorong Jugra, Jalan Kelang Lama, 58200 Kuala Lumpur.

• To reduce cost, the Home is relocated at No 1, Jalan 1A/71E, Jalan Carey, 46000 Petaling Jaya, a single storey semi-detached house.
OBJECTIVES
• To provide FREE temporary shelter for destitute women unsupported, abandoned or rejected by family and society
• To serve as a Half way Home to help these women to regain confidence in themselves and return to society

• To provide a temporary refuge for abused women and those in peril, distress & danger
• To be a drop-in center for women who require counselling
HOME SERVICES COMMITTEE
• Headed by Home Co-ordinator Ms Delia Alfonso
• Decides on all aspects of the running of the Home
• Manages the Home
• Interviews the potential resident

• Decides on the period of stay
• Provides subsistence, solace and training (where necessary)
• Provides assistance in the rehabilitation of the resident
• Provides assistance to secure a permanent home or a job and return to society to start life anew
DAY TO DAY RUNNING
• Live-in full time Housemother - Mdm Felicia Lao
• Off day on Sunday - Some Committee members come in to help
• She is a parishioner who has had on the job training in handling women from all walks of life who have sought refuge there

• A total of 22 cases so far with 1 relapse case who is currently a resident - a mother with a 7 year old daughter
SUPPORT GROUP
• Parishioners, BEC members, members of the Conference provide this very important service
• To visit the Home, listen to the problems and provide solace to the residents
• To keep in touch with the residents and follow-up on their progress
SUPPORT GROUP (cont..)
• Volunteers not limited to women. If men are helping out, minimum of 2 persons to be present.
NETWORKING & PUBLICITY
• Constantly in touch with other women welfare organizations such as WAO (Women Aid Organization) AWAM (All Women Action Movement) the Soroptimists and the Pure Life Society
• WAO contacts the Home very often for assistance
• Problem faced is making the Home known to general public
NETWORKING & PUBLICITY (cont..)
• “Herald” has interviewed and printed an article on it
• Poster on it are pasted in most churches in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur
SERVICES YOU CAN OFFER• Offer to visit the Home at specified times
during the week, to provide a listening ear
• Offer medical assistance if you are a medical practitioner
• Give your name or name of your company as a potential employer of the residents

• Offer your help in training the residents, teaching them sewing, handicrafts, gardening, etc…
• Offer to counsel residents
• Offer financial help
• Help publicize the Home
• Join the Home Services Committee
