I am Steve Cressey, the Managing Director of Group Management Electrical Surveys Limited (GMES). For the last 25 years, we have been providing Electrical Inspection, Test and Documentation services to many of the UK’s leading Companies. The Construction industry has changed significantly during this time, but GMES has always adapted and led the field, working with blue-chip clients, contractors and consultants alike. We have a fantastic workforce with industry-leading knowledge and skills that have helped us remain one of the strongest companies in the field.

Our vision has always been to help our clients’ project managers by offering specialist electrical expertise for the

technically difficult and time-consuming tasks they face. Twenty-five years on, this remains the fundamental principle that underpins our business.

New clients often ask me why they should employ Group Management and my answer is always the same- “If you just want to buy a certificate with no questions asked and at the cheapest price then GMES is not what you are looking for . However, if you want a financially competitive service that offers an independent professional approach combined with technical excellence, health and safety competence and, ultimately, peace of mind, then we are the right company for you.”

Electrical Inspection and Testing

We provide independent Electrical Inspection and Testing services, all in line with the requirements of BS7671 and IET Guidance Note 3 for all types of new build electrical installations.

We have a proven track record both in the UK and EU for delivering projects on budget and on time. All of our electrical inspection and testing services are offered on a fixed price basis, providing peace of mind to our clients.

All inspections and test results are recorded on site using our own bespoke intelligent software. Our use of tablets enables GMES engineers to draw down the latest available documentation such as Risk Assessments and Method Statements, Technical information or Health and Safety literature.

In line with company procedure, before we issue any “As-Installed” documentation, all inspection and test results have to pass our three-stage audit:

1. GMES on-site engineer review utilising individual experience and site knowledge

2. Our intelligent bespoke Compliance software which identifies all high/low readings and missing data

3. A final review by our experienced Technical/Contracts Managers.

We provide all Distribution Board charts, test result reports and, if required, manage your installation certificate or we can produce and manage an installation certificate based on the model forms in BS7671.

Every project, no matter what the size, is visited and audited by our management team on a regular basis. Depending on the size of the project, we can provide a site-based Project Manager or Project Team.

Our Technical Services

Final Circuit Terminations

We can provide final circuit termination services within Distribution Boards as an add-on to our electrical inspection and testing services. As part of our termination service we will:

• Install free issue protective devices within Distribution Boards

• Provide and install all cable ferrules using the Cembre TDM range marking system

• Neatly terminate final circuits within Distribution Boards.

All of our engineers carry the latest torque screwdrivers which they use to ensure that all of the Distribution Board terminations we make are in line with BS7671 Regulation 134.1.1. This service offers our clients a fixed price solution for a skilled task and ensures our clients’ electricians will not need to spend time terminating distribution boards.

Thermal Imaging Surveys

We have highly competent, experienced engineers trained to use our Thermal Imaging Cameras and accompanying software.

In general, we carry out Thermal Imaging Surveys (or Thermographics) where electrical isolations are not permitted. Typically, this would be Distribution Boards, Main LV Panels, Busbars and business critical supplies.

As with all technical surveys, any report is only as good as the understanding and correct interpretation of the results, in this case the images and software which is where our expertise is utilised.

Once the size of the survey has been determined, we can offer a fixed price solution for this service.

Operation and Maintenance Manuals

With the ever-increasing complexity of buildings and services infrastructure, accurate, user-friendly Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M Manuals) are essential to ensure that all the building services are correctly operated and maintained.

We provide Mechanical and Electrical O&M Manuals for both new and existing building services.

Typically, we produce our manuals in line with a specification or to suit our client’s particular requirements.

For buildings that require bespoke manuals, we design and produce interactive Tablet-based Manuals as well as standard hard-copy versions. We can provide samples of our O&M Manuals and systems on request. We

can also store O&M Manuals on our secure cloud-based server where our clients can access their information by using their own unique log-in details and password.

We can offer fixed price solutions for all of our O&M Manuals.

Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) or Periodic Inspection and Test

We produce EICRs using our own innovative, bespoke software. All of our EICRs are managed and produced in accordance with BS7671 and IET Guidance Note 3.

Our EICRs identify any technical departures with a Regulation Number from BS7671 and an accompanying high resolution photograph (if site rules permit). The Regulation Numbers and photographs within our reports allow our clients to review, budget and programme the required remedial action.

WE ARE HERE TO ASSIST YOU +44 (0) 845 226 7484 | 17

We are independent and totally impartial. We do not offer electrical installation works so have nothing to gain financially from any subsequent remedial works.

All of our clients have different requirements, mainly due to the type of building they inhabit. We have vast experience in working with most types of buildings from Data Centres and Hospitals to Schools, Supermarkets, large retail spaces and office buildings. Buildings such as Data Centres and Hospitals require a different approach to a typical office building. It is this understanding gained over more than two decades than ensures we can provide a tailored, bespoke and highly acceptable service to our clients.

Our EICRs are extremely thorough and offer a complete service. We do not take shortcuts and we pride ourselves on our repeat business percentage of 90%.

All our EICRs are offered on a fixed price basis. We also offer contracts where an agreed percentage of the building will be inspected and tested annually over several years.

Medical Locations (BS7671 Section 710)

Our practical experience within Medical Locations is unique within the industry. Over the last 10 years we have commissioned the Medical Locations at the following electrical installations:

• Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (new build)

• Tameside Hospital, Manchester (new build)• Hope Hospital, Manchester, both phases

(new build)• New South Glasgow Hospital (new build)• Finchley Memorial Hospital (new build)• Altrincham General Hospital (new build)• Fife Hospital (new build)• Churchill Hospital, Oxford (new build)• Royal Derby Hospital (retrofit)• Queen Victoria Hospital, West Sussex (EICR)• Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford (EICR)• Lewisham Hospital (EICR)• Addenbrooke’s Hospitals, Cambridge (EICR)

We have also inspected and tested numerous Imaging Suites on behalf of the NHS, Services Consultants, Electrical Contractors and Imaging machine installers.

Requirements for wiring in Medical Locations have changed in recent years and are now much more stringent. It is now mandatory to minimise the risk to patients from micro and macro electric shocks or the danger to life from a loss of power to critical equipment. In real terms, the burden of responsibility has now been squarely placed on the shoulders of both installers and institutions that may have to consider the introduction of new and specialist measures to avoid any potential liability.

We offer a specially designed peer-reviewed presentation to Health Service and Building Service Managers outlining their responsibilities and requirements under

the new legislation. We also offer a peer-reviewed training course on compliance, covering design, installation, testing and maintenance for all Medical Locations. To find out more, contact Steve Cressey at [email protected]

Hazardous Area and Special Locations

We have a proven track record for delivering Hazardous Area Projects on time and on budget. Our Special Location Team can manage your project from initial design all the way to final certification and project handover. Most recently our expertise was utilised at the Blackburn Meadows Bio Mass Power Station and the Thames Water Crossness Water Treatment Plants.

Our Special Location Team has extensive technical and practical experience covering specialist locations such as Faraday Cage Installations and Hazardous Area Installations.

Our Hazardous Area team hold all CompEx units 1-12.

We also offer individual services such as Atex or DSEAR inspections and installation inspection and testing. For more information please contact Steve Cressey at [email protected]
