Expository Essay
Lesson 3
What’s that mean? (review)
An expository essay is “a form of writing which intends to define, inform, explain, elaborate and expound the author’s subject to the reader”.
Huh…?It means: You get to write about a topic you
know and explain it to your reader.

How’s it work? (review)
• You get a writing prompt, (like the one on the side.) Or choose your own.
• Figure out what is the central point you’re going to write about.
• Come up with your topic.• Brainstorm details and
supporting facts.• Write your essay.• Revise.• Polish and publish it.
Who is your best friend? And Why
This week- Brainstorming
• You came up with your central ideas.• Did you notice you didn’t write up any topic
sentences? Well, there was a reason.• You always need to do some planning before
you write. Remember the Prewriting we talk about before? Same steps of the writing process apply no matter what type of writing.

My sister, Charletta is my best friend.
But why????So here is my web. I put my central idea in the center.
Remember the question: why is my sister my best friend?
I need to come up with at least 3 reasons why she is my best friend.
Then for each of these 3 reasons, I’m going to add supporting details to so I can write good paragraphs about.
