The Elizabeth Public Library Earns 2016 Literacy Grant
What can $2500 do for our Literacy/ESL collection? One thing: provide ‘easy reading’ kits for those new to
English, with abridged literature classics packaged with a CD to enhance learning.
Elizabeth Public Library was awarded the New Jersey State Library’s 2016 Collection Development Literacy Grant
in the amount of $2500. The materials acquired with the grant funds will be housed on the 3rd floor of the Library, in the newly created ESL EXPRESS corner, where language and citizenship tutors and classes are held. The new
materials will also include GED prep tools for ESL learners, and resources on social customs, language idioms, and
other cultural preparation aids for immigrants. Elizabeth, New Jersey-Elizabeth Public Library. For more information: http://www.elizpl.org
For more information about this grant contact the Adult Services Department at 908-280-6908 or visit our
Information Services Desk.
EXPRESS
Library Associate, Tracy Robinson, welcomes teens to
our newly refurbished 3rd floor Teen Department. The
low-backed booths contain charging ports for portable
devices and the semi-translucent tables and small color-
ful stools can easily be configured to maximize utility by
large or small groups of students. Six computer stations
complete this first phase of the Teen Department project.
Then, glass wall partitions, creating a classroom space
for our increasing number of ESL/Literacy and Citizen-
ship programs, are expected to be installed behind the
Teen Office by Labor Day. The glass walls will create
an additional conference room/quiet study area.
In the future, more tables and chairs will be added to the
Teen space, and Tracy has plans for a Listening Station,
complete with a turntable and headphones.
These improvements are made possible by Capital Funds
monitored and approved by the Library Board of
Trustees.
Tracy is thrilled to have this new space ready to share with EPL’s teen visitors, just in time for summer! In July, a full schedule of summer reading club events will begin in the Teens Dept.
Hamilton Papers Exhibit Duplicates of original stock certifi-
cates and redemption bonds, dated 1791-1794, bearing the
cancelled signature of Alexander Hamilton will be on display at the
Broad Street stairs entrance.

'The Big Bang Theory' which describes the birth of the Universe. We will discuss inflationary and dark energy theories that relate to the ongoing accelerated
expansion of the Universe and further reveal the potential end of the Universe. This presentation will be given by world-renowned physicist, Prof. Jose L. Lopez,
