INSERT A WINDOWS MEDIA VIDEO
Expression Web is limited in that it doesn’t have
the Silverlight encoder software to make a
streaming “flash-like” video. But, it does work.
HAVE YOUR WEBSITE OPEN AND A PAGE
CREATED FOR IT. PLACE THE CURSOR IN THE
PAGE WHERE YOU WANT THE VIDEO TO BE.
IMPORT YOUR VIDEO INTO YOUR WEBSITE. USE “MY
COMPUTER” TO LOCATE IT, THEN DRAG IT INTO THE
FOLDER ON YOUR SITE WHERE YOU WANT IT STORED.
It’s always a
good idea to
create
folders to
store certain
types of files
and keep
your site
organized as
it grows. I’ve
created a
“video”
folder.
SELECT “INSERT” (DROP-DOWN MENU APPEARS) THEN “MEDIA”
THEN “WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER.” THIS WINDOW APPEARS. FIND
YOUR VIDEO IN YOUR SITE AND CLICK “INSERT.”
My video file
“HaitiSlideshow”
is a Windows
Media Video
(.wmv )
OTHER VIDEO FORMATS: YOU CAN USE .AVI AND MPEG FILES,
BUT MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER IS LOOKING FOR THEM. I
CHANGED THE SEARCH FILE TYPE BELOW TO “MEDIA FILES,” SO
ALL VIDEOS WOULD SHOW.
This is Vista, so
your computer
might be a
little different.
I changed mine
from “Windows
Media Video” to
“Media Files.”
Now it shows the avi file
“ASFMSOrientationDVD”
THE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER APPEARS IN YOUR
WEBPAGE. YOU CAN CHANGE THE DIMENSIONS OF
THE WINDOW BY DRAGGING A CORNER OR SIDE.
YOU CAN SEE HERE THAT I DRAGGED THE SIDES TO MAKE THE
WINDOW LARGER. NOW, RIGHT-CLICK INSIDE OR ON THE
WINDOW TO CHANGE THE PROPERTIES.
THIS WINDOW ALLOWS YOU TO CHANGE THE PROPERTIES OF THE VIDEO
PLAYER. UNFORTUNATELY, IN MY EXPERIENCE, NOT MUCH WORKS IN
MOST BROWSERS ANYWAY. IT WILL PLAY, BUT IT USUALLY LOOKS THE
SAME.
You should be able to
play full screen
automatically – Let
me know if you get
this to work. Also,
player controls are
always there, but
never invisible as it’s
supposed to allow.
If you want it to play
again and again,
choose a high Play
count.”
CLICK THE PREVIEW BUTTON TO SEE HOW
IT LOOKS IN YOUR BROWSER.
You will be
prompted to
save the
webpage if
you haven’t
already.
IF THE VIDEO AND YOUR SITE IS ONLY ON YOUR COMPUTER AND
NOT ONLINE YET, THIS “ACTIVEX” YELLOW BAR POPS-UP. CLICK
ON IT AND ALLOW.
THIS SECURITY WARNING POPS-UP. JUST PRESS
“YES” AND YOUR COMPUTER WILL BE FINE.
HERE IS THE VIDEO IN THE WEBPAGE.
OTHER OPTIONS:
Moyea Flash Video Pro allows you to create a
streaming flash video with an .swf file that is
compatible with Expression Web 2. It provides
many options and compresses the file so it can
stream easier. http://www.video-to-
flash.com/video_to_flash/
HERE’S AN EXAMPLE. YOU HAVE THE
OPTION OF NO TOOLBAR IF YOU WANT IT.
THE SMALL SLIDESHOW BELOW IS
WITHOUT CONTROLS OR PLAY BUTTON.
Unfortunately,
coventryschools.net
server doesn’t have
the software to do
this. We are waiting
for the upgrade.
The proposal has
been submitted.
THE END
I’ll post a tutorial on how to use the Moyea
software when our district server is upgraded an
allows it. For now, persuade our superintendent
to allocate the funds for this.
