Extended Essay Coordinator – in conjunction with a teaching post Key Responsibilities South Island School seeks to appoint an Extended Essay Coordinator (in conjunction with a regular teaching post), to lead this important core element of our IB Diploma programme. The role will commence in August 2019, and carries an additional TLR4 allowance. The successful applicant will possess strong organisational and management skills, and will be expected to carefully monitor the progress of students, as well as teacher supervisors, with their IB Diploma Extended Essay work. She or he will work closely with the IB Coordinator to ensure that all Extended Essays are appropriately defined, planned, tracked, completed and uploaded, in accordance with IBO regulations, and with particular reference to academic honesty procedures. Thus, the Extended Essay Coordinator will be responsible and accountable for all elements of the IB Diploma Extended Essay. The role is open to applicants from any area of teaching specialism, and the successful applicant will also be a mainstream teacher with a slightly reduced teaching allocation. SouthIslandSchoolSouthIslandSchool(SIS)openedin1977, initiallyasanannexofIslandSchool,beforemovingtoourcurrentsiteonNamFungRoad in1983.Today,SIS isa thrivingandhighlysuccessfulmemberof theEnglishSchoolsFoundation (ESF),withover1400 students covering the full secondaryage range fromYear7 toYear13. InadditiontoworkingcloselywiththeESF,SISisgovernedbyourSchoolCouncilandalsohasaveryactivePTA.SIShasrecentlyintroducedtheMYPprogrammetoYears7-8,withtheprogrammereachingYear9forthefirsttimeinSeptember2019.OurYears10-11curriculumconsistsmainlyof(I)GCSEcourses,withasmallnumberofothercoursesalsooffered.InYears12-13,ourstudentsstudyfortheIBDiploma(IBDP)orIBCareer-relatedProgramme(IBCP).ThevastmajorityofSISstudentssuccessfullyachievetheiruniversityorfurthereducationambitions,withdestinationsregularlyincludingtopuniversitiesinHongKong,theUKandtheUSA,aswellasotheroverseasdestinations.Pastorally, the school is divided into three learning families. Family Bauhinia meets the transition needs ofstudentsinYears7-8whentheytransfertousfromtheirPrimaryschool,andtheseyear-groupshavetheirowndedicatedHeadsofYear.InYear9,studentstransfertoFamilyBambooorFamilyBanyanandalsojoinoneofsix houses, which are named Bahay, Casa, Kuca, Maison, Namas and Shtepi. All teachers are tutors, and areactively involved in our Pastoral Learning Curriculum (PLC). Our well-being team also includes schoolcounsellorsandaschoolnurse.TheacademicandpastoralcurriculaarecomplimentedbyourValuesinActioncurriculum,whichincorporatesaverywiderangeofextra-curricularactivities,eventsandtrips.Ouroverallaimisto‘makeadifference’inourown lives, in our community and in the context of global citizenship.
