EXTENSION ACTIVITY 2016-2017

An extension activity related to the awareness creation about the Special

Cleanliness Programme (Special Swachhta Campaign) conducted in Tiruppattur bus

stand on 12-08-2016. Fifty Volunteers of National Service Scheme were selected and

given prior training about the Special Cleanliness Programme. They issued notice to

the people. The notice contained about cleanliness of individual, family, village, and

work place.

This programme was inaugurated by Dr.G.V.Gobinath, Vice Principal,

Arumugam Pillai SeethaiAmmal College, Tiruppattur along with chief guest

Mr.Somasundaram, Chairman,Tiruppattur Selection Grade Town Panchayat. All the

NSS Volunteers along with chief guest took a vow about Swachh Pledge. After that,

the volunteers cleaned the Gandhi Statue and Tiruppattur Bus Stand.

Saplings plantation:

Department of Physics, through its extension activity programme, conducts

tree plantation programme in its adopted village Kottaiyeruppu near Tiruppattur,

Sivagangai district. As per the Alagappa University guidelines, extension activity

programme should be conducted on any two days, preferably Saturday and Sunday,

during the third semester of the UG course. Variety of programs, which also includes

saplings plantations, was conducted during this extension activity. All the forty four II

B.Sc., students were taken to the Kottaiyeruppu village on 15th

and 16th

October 2016

along with staff members of Physics department. Students planted various varieties of

saplings such as neem, banyan, peepal, guava etc., in and around of Kottaiyeruppu

village. The saplings, which will grow as trees with time, gives numerous benefits to

the human beings such as oxygen for breathing, reduces erosion of soil and pollutions

in waterways and also as shelter to variety of birds. Inculcating the habit of sapling

plantation in the students mind will also help to reduce the effect of global warming

in our universe.

Village Panchayat Extension activity 52

The students and teachers of chemistry department, Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal

College, Tiruppattur conducted a two days programme in the village Korati.

Awareness on Dengue fever was given to the local community by our students

distributing pamphlets, screening short video about the dengue. Villagers were gathered at

a common place and students also gave awareness On 17.09.2016, we conduct a

programme based on local issues in which we cleaned in and around the drinking water

pond such that the village people may have a clean and hygienic drinking water. In the

afternoon the students visit door to door and the following concepts were emphasized

through pamphlets that were supplied.

Avoiding non-recyclable plastics that create environmental pollution

Avoiding tobacco products that may create health problems like lungs cancer, oral

cancer

Rain water harvesting,

Essential of soil testing and using the calculated amount of the needed fertilizers

In the programme nine boys and fourty girls of our department effectively

participated with the social thought and willingly involved in the propagation of using

natural manure and avoidance plastics in their day to day life.

Department of Computer Science, Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College,

Tiruppattur, in an endeavour to carry out welfare measures to the people of

surrounding villages, pursue extension activities. Department of Computer Science

has conducted an extension activities at Thiruvudaiyar patti, a village near

Tiruppatttur on 22nd

October 2016. In the programme eighteen boys and thirty girls of

our department effectively participated with the involvement.

Tree plantation is good for the environment. Everyone knows that trees are

the source of oxygen. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen without which

the survival of living beings is not possible on earth. Trees also provide us with

many benefits necessary for survival, including clean air, filtered water, shade, and

food. The planting trees are little things that students can do. On the request of the

vice-president of the village Pungai tree plantation before the houses was carried on

by our students.

In the afternoon, students distributed the notice to the village people about

hazards of plastics. The plastic plays the major role in life. Plastic is one of the

chemical materials which pose environmental problem. The major chemicals that go

into the making of plastic are highly toxic and pose serious threat to living beings of

all species on earth. Some of constitutes of plastic such as benzene are known to

cause cancer. Plastic resins themselves are flammable and have contributed

considerably to several accidents worldwide. The students are quite interested in

doing good things to the people and they were motivated by the joy and kindness of

the village people shown to them

REPORT OF EXTENSION ACTIVITIES - OCTOBER 2016-17

The II year (EM&TM) students of Economics Department undertook

Extension Activity on 22&23.10.2016 at Ranasingapuram Village, 2kms. away

from Tiruppattur enroute to Madurai. “Cleanliness of the Village and

Environment Protection” was chosen as the theme for the Extension Activity

of this year.

Thiru. Kaleel Rahuman, VAO in-charge, Mr. M.Sethuraman (PTA

Secretary) and Mr.M.Sheik (Clerical Staff- Panchayat office) inaugurated the

extension programe. They highlighted the role of students in taking the

message of keeping the surroundings clean to the village people.

Girl students were divided into four groups. The first group collected

firsthand information about the content of the theme selected for the extension

activity. They visited almost all the houses in the village to explain the need for

keeping the surrounding clean, particularly the evils of open defecation for

nature’s call and the importance of growing trees in the village.

The other three teams cleaned the primary school campus, ration shop

situated near the school. They cleaned the bushes along the road site from the

entrance of the village. They also cleaned the backyard of the Community Hall.

Boy students were divided into six groups for cleaning activities. Four

groups of students cleaned the village drinking water tank. They removed the

bushes grown in the tank, removed plastic wastes. The other two groups

cleaned playground, the yard for drying paddy and the temple premises near

Panchayat Union office.

About 50 saplings were planted. All the students cleared the plastic

wastes thrown in streets in the village and cleaned the bushes along the

roadside.

Through the extension activities students not only gain knowledge on

environment protection, but also educated the village people keeping the

village clean and healthy. This visit to Ranasingapuram has made the people

understand the necessity of keeping the village clean and at the same time

students were able to have an opportunity to serve the village people.

On 01.10.2016 – 02.10.2016, we went to Nedumaram village

along with 51 students from II B.Sc Mathematics. They motivated

the school children to practise clean habits and entertained them

by showing charts and played with them. The villagers were asked

to gather at the temple to have a meeting with our students. They

motivated the villagers for tree plantation, rain harvesting, family

planning and self-hygienic practices. The villagers were inspired

by the charts and pictures, which were shown by the students.

The Department of commerce organized one day camp at Government

Hospital, Tiruppattur on 9th

October 2016. In order to fulfill the extension

activity 4BEA3 subject. The following activities were undertaken by our

II B.Com A & B students (120 Students). Tree plantation, cleaning,

creating awareness etc. were carried out. To create awareness on

dengue, nilavembu kudineer was given to the patients and Students

cleaned the hospital. They created awareness by showing charts and

explained the patients about diabetic awareness, eye donation

awareness, blood donation awareness, awareness for sanitation,

students learned about first aid treatment and pamphlets given to
