5th September 2019 Dear Parents
Extra-Curricular Clubs and Activities at The British School of Amsterdam PRIMARY Departments
AUTUMN TERM 2019 We are now preparing information for the Extra Curricular Activities that are on offer at the British School of Amsterdam for the Autumn Term. The information and application process will all be done online, via the parent portal on Firefly. The Clubs booklet will be uploaded onto Firefly in the evening of Thursday 5th
September, and booking will begin on Friday 6th September at 5p.m. In order to sign up for the after school clubs, all parents will need to use the following process. To look at the information about clubs on offer:
On THURSDAY 5th September, the booklets detailing the club offer for the Autumn term will be uploaded to Firefly. To access the booklet online, please go to https://britams.fireflycloud.net/whole-school/clubs-and-activities-
There is one booklet, detailing all of the clubs on offer across the primary school (Early Years, Infant, Junior) At the front of the booklet there is an overview so you can see at a glance which clubs are open to different year groups (Please note clubs are not available for Nursery children).
Please read the information about the different clubs on offer carefully. Each outside provider has given details of the kind of activities involved in their club, the dates for the term, cost, the number of children allowed in the club and a contact for future reference. There is a calendar in the booklet which indicates which days the clubs will run. There are no clubs in the last week of term, and teacher run clubs do not operate during the weeks of Parents Evenings and there are no clubs at all during the days of Parents Evenings. In the summer term, there are no clubs run by members of the school staff in the Primary departments.
On Friday 6th September at 5 p.m. the online booking system will open:
Once you have decided on which clubs you would like to select for your child/ren, please follow the links at the bottom of the Clubs page to access the online Extra Curricular request Form.

To fill out the form, you will need to enter the full name (First and family name) of your child, select their class from the drop down box, enter a contact email that the club provider will be given, and then select which clubs you would like to sign up for
The clubs are arranged by day. You do not have to choose a club for each day, and we would recommend a limit to clubs dependent on the age of your child:
Reception– 1 club per week Year 1 & 2– no more than 2 clubs per week Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 – no more than 3 clubs per week
Some clubs are very popular, and in the event of a club reaching its maximum capacity, all children entered afterwards will form the waiting list. If you have not got into a club, you can then arrange for a different club after the initial process has finished, or go on the waiting list in case others drop out.
Once you have finished the selection, please press submit, and then you have completed the process. Please note, if you subsequently decide you would like to change your choices, you must re-submit the entire form before the deadline, but you may then appear further down the waiting list and so may not get in to an oversubscribed club.
Each entry is then filed on our data base, with a time marked entry, so that we will be able to see which children have applied for a club in which order, and can then create club lists fairly.
The deadline for booking clubs and filling in online forms will be SUNDAY 8th September at 5p.m. We will then inform parents and children of their club requests by letter by Thursday 12th. If you have not got into the club of first choice, you will then be able to arrange with Mrs Lankenau to find out which clubs have spaces. Outside club providers levy a charge (detailed in the booklet) - parents are expected to meet the providers after the first session and arrange payment. Please ensure that this is done promptly so that the clubs can run for all. Clubs will start on Monday 16th September, and will run until Friday 13h December. Please note that we are only able to receive bookings for clubs via firefly.
Many thanks and best wishes

By using different kind of techniques, the little painters will illustrate the stories in their own way. Of course, those magical stories leave a lot of space for their imagination: what would be in your magical lamp? What would be behind the doors of Sesame? Let’s find out together!
During this Painting Club you will: - Get familiar with the ancient stories and history of the book, Arabian Nights - Paint the colors of the falling night with aquarelle - Draw a still life magical lamp of Aladdin - Take a look inside the Sultan’s palace and learn about Islamic Geometric Art - Design your own Turkish, ‘Iznik’, tiles - Paint your treasure behind the doors of Sesame and make up a new password yourself!

A great opportunity for young musicians at the BSA to learn to play together as a Band!
Have fun together. Choose your own songs, develop your own style. Improve your instrumental
skills, your performance skills and presentation. And for the very creative amongst us, learn how to
write your own songs and perform them in a band setting.
All instruments are welcome. Musical genres will be pop, rock, soul, funk, reggae & hip hop, or any
other similar type of music.
I have over fifteen years of experience as a guitar teacher at the British School. One of my great
passions is coaching bands. My latest project involves a teenage band, Low Profile, who have,
amongst others and under my supervision, performed at Amsterdam’s rock temple the Paradiso,
and with my help have recently recorded their own songs at Abbey Road Institute.
You can now listen to their single “Jack on the Rocks” on Spotify:

Bricks Challenge is our most popular enrichment program. The overall course objective is to impart theoretical and applied knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and

The main goal of the course is to illustrate content through stories and demonstrations. Our students will learn math and physical principles through intuitive study, develop their inde-pendent learning and improve their building skills.
The course will provide mathematical integration between physical laws and the simple cal-culations to support them. The laws and mathematics are both illustrated through the con-struction of exciting LEGO® bricks models. Once the concepts have been demonstrated stu-dents enjoy hands on building the YE LEGO® models which provides experimental learning and reinforces the lessons topic. To carry out the building process, students receive a tailor made kit developed by Young Engineers.

Over the last 10 years, social media apps and filmmaking tools have become a fundamental part of our digital lives. Young people, in particular, learn, socialise, explore their identities and engage with the world using their screens. Media literacy is now a basic literacy. In response to these developments, Film Crew Club workshops focus on conversation and co-creation formats: students work with cameras, iPads, mobile phones to explore 2/3D animation, live action, gaming and social media content. By making films together, students learn, first hand, how to look at media critically and how to engage with it safely and respectfully. Classes include playful exercises and games, in which students learn to verify images, assess content for risk, understand how editing tools manipulate imagery and differentiate between authentic and sponsored content. Film Crew Club workshops are also offered as independent workshops throughout the year for kids, teens and adults at other locations. We do painting, drawing, claywork, paper/cardwork – lots of imaginative work. You can see examples on my website, www.tonychapman-artmusic.com
There is a relaxed atmosphere – making art is fun. I encourage self expression and freedom in art making – I give a project as a starting point – the most important thing for me is the student’s own interpretation... I‘m always amazed and delighted to see what students come up with...
I’ve been running these groups for the last 19 years – at the British School of Amsterdam, ISA and AICS. I have a B.A. Hons Degree in Creative Arts. I am a painter and sculptor.
I also teach guitar (privately and at the British School of Amsterdam) and I teach piano (privately).
I am English – and have lived in Amsterdam for the last 20 years. I am also a singer/songwriter
with my own band, “The Big Event”, performing in and around Amsterdam.
All art materials are provided.
